The aim of the paper is to provide an overview of the underlying principles of the tooth contact analysis (TCA) with particular focus on the function of transmission error (TE) which in a very significant way affect the dynamic behavior of a gear pair. Tooth surface generation model is presented and the three methods of the conventional approach for determination of the contact point path (CPP) and TE function.
