W artykule przedstawiono dorobek badawczy odnoszący się do monitorowania procesów integracji pionowej oraz wskazano na potencjalne możliwości wykorzystania poszczególnych mierników w analizie sektora transportu. Odniesiono się do trzech głównych obszarów: sektora transportu, rynku właściwego i przedsiębiorstwa transportowego. W każdym przypadku omówiono proponowane metody mierzenia procesów integracyjnych oraz potrzeby informacyjne z tym związane. Przedstawione zostało również autorskie podejście do analizy zakresu integracji pionowej sektora (VIS). Część z zaprezentowanych miar okazała się nieprzydatna w badaniach dotyczących transportu bowiem nie uwzględniała jego specyfiki jako sektora usług. Ważnym wyzwaniem są również duże potrzeby informacyjne niezbędne do rzetelnego przeprowadzenia badań. Obecnie jednak możliwości wykorzystania baz danych zawierających informacje o podmiotach gospodarczych w połączeniu z możliwościami obliczeniowymi komputerów pozwolić może na empiryczną weryfikację stosowanych metod i podejść do mierzenia procesów integracji pionowej. Tym samym zdefiniowane zagadnienie wydaje się atrakcyjnym obszarem badawczym, który obok znaczenia teoretycznego posiada także istotny walor praktyczny.

The paper presents the research findings related to monitoring of the process on vertical integration and refers to various measures implication in the transport sector. Reference has been made to three main areas: transport sector, relevant markets and transport companies. Measuring methods of integration processes and associated information needs, have been discussed in each particular case. In addition, author presents his own approach towards the analysis of vertical integration of the sector (VIS). Some of the presented measures are not applicable to transport studies. Main problem is the intangible nature of the transport service. Moreover, an important challenge is also information needs that are necessary for the research. Today, however, the possibility of use of databases containing information about specific entities and computational capabilities may allow for empirical verification of the approach and methods to vertical integration measurement. Therefore, problem seems to be the attractive research area, which next to the theoretical significance has also practical value.
