Human feelings: love, hate, and banal indifferency - translated into urbanist's language reflect in extreme aesthetic. The idea City within the City is successful formula for urban-architectural analysis and qualification. Given are three samples different in age, place, ideology, and political bacground; in designers approach, and aesthetic quality. 1. City of Jerusalem with The Temple achieved urban climax in time of Christ. The town was wonderfuly located on hills, circled by city-walls following slopes. It was shining white, including gold - the Royal Palace, and The Temple which was the City within the City. The historic Old Town is its heart - the City within the City. Great spiritual and humanist motivation - The God, The Nation - reflects in urban and architectural achievements. 2. Contradict is „the great axis" for nazi Berlin. The source was Hitlers design - enormous, overscaled buildings, insane dreams about the great Germania. He delivered this work to Albert Speer in order to „montage" it as a „kolossal" City in the City in the centre in Berlin. Designing was crazy, in eclectic manner, gigantic, ignoring urban and human context. The culmination was a congress „temple" app. 400 meters high. The work is as a diagram of paranoja - a psychiatric complex of hate and domination, terribly blend together. 3. The New Town in Cracow, a business-market complex, by the central railway station. The idea was initiated in the 60., repeted in 80., developed in 90. during transformation. There were successful competitions, then urban studies in the municipality. The strategic investor was chosen, who commisioned own architects. During projecting - absurd, strange and morbid phenomena occured. The partners got into conflicts - municipality, government, railway leaders, architects, experts, bussinesmen. Authors produced banal, huge supermarket. The City within the City seems to be never ended, not even started. The way for bussines is still open, but the quality of urban space is rather lost forever.
