In the natural gas sector, Belarus is seen as a transit country and plays very important role in the transit of Russian gas to European markets (Germany, Poland, Belgium, Holland and Lithuania). However, until recently, its importance for the transit of gas from Russia was much smaller than Ukrainę. In 2012, the territory of Belarus was transported in transit 34.5 billion m3 of Russian natural gas.
