The licensing process has a huge influence on: the project technical schedule, the contracting and the operator decision processes. Its implementation with all stakeholders involved is crucial for the operator as well as for the success of the nuclear programme. The licensing process is long. Therefore, the future operator must anticipate as earlier as possible the requirements of the Nuclear Safety Authority (NSA) in order to avoid any delay in the project schedule. The paper describes the initial and subsequently main steps of the licencing process in France. The role of public debates and Nuclear Safety Authority opinions was underlined. In conclusion of the article was stated among others: during project implementation, regular exchanges between the operator and the NSA are very helpful to identify potential licensing issues in a timely manner and understand the licensing/regulatory system and requirements, as well as any license conditions.
