Following the breakup of Yugoslavia, Bosnia-Herzegovina slid into a spiral of violence. The incessant conflicts between the three Bosnian ethnic groups (Muslims, Serbs and Croats) produced numerous casualties and sufferings that only ended by NATO’s military involvement in the region. But as the European Union became more aware and confident regarding its military profile, it decided to take a preeminent role in securing this neighboring country, by deploying its own military force. In accordance, this paper analyses the main troop contributions and military capabilities subscribed to the European Union Force in Bosnia-Herzegovina, within the military operation EUFOR Althea.
