The European House in Marienberg is organising “annual talks” on various topics related to the European Union on 9th - 11th June, 2006. Prof. Wojciech Łepkowski and I have been invited to take part in these “talks”. This article is a kind of request to the readers for their remarks as its content is the summary of my speech. Each comment will allow me to introduce various changes not only to avoid any faults, but mainly to increase its value, and in this way the prestige of our University. In the article I present the European Union's current situation, the necessity of its further development, mostly in the political and military dimension, so that it would be able to contribute more substantially into global security which is a necessary condition for the European stability and possibility of further development. I have also shown our achievements on the continent and world scale that prove that the EU has been transforming from the economic empire into the political - economic and military one and thus increasing its influence on the stability and progress of not only the continent but the globe. I finished my article with the following conclusion: “What matters is that the European Union, among others due to the Constitutional Treaty, still could hold one of the leading positions in the world in the area of enlarging our common values, and in particular to spread and protect peace, democracy and human rights. Thus it would the Europe to have taken “a significant step forward”.
