Abstrakty

EN

The article emphasises the complex process of reshaping the city public space in tepid latitudes. The main objective is to define the role of sustainable development in a process of urban renewal by creating a new quality in a public space. The study presents methods invented by Jan Gehl to succour the public space design process. The article introduces a critic analysis of usefulness of those methods for Polish public space revitalization process. The case study presents the Place des Arts in Montreal as an example of implementation of similar methods of public space redevelopment. The 2011 redevelopment of public space in Quartier des Spectacles shows a good practice of creating a public space in a frame of sustainable development.
