Dziedzictwo kulturowe tworzące tożsamość miasta jest efektem pracy i życia wielu mi¬nionych pokoleń. Stąd procesy rekonstrukcji, restytucji obiektów i zespołów architektonicznych są źródłem kontrowersji natury etycznej, estetycznej, historycznej i politycznej. Dziedzictwo i zabytki, pozornie niezmienne w swojej naturze, są osadzone w świecie podlegającym ewolucji, stąd konieczność zdefiniowania na nowo przestrzeni w jej sferze fizycznej i mentalnej oraz sformułowania ogólnych zasad ochrony tak, aby odpowiadała potrzebom współczesności. W poniższym tekście nawiązano do zmiany paradygmatu czasu i przestrzeni, tzw. spatial turn, u schyłku minionego wieku, koncepcji H. Lefebvre'a i towarzyszącej im konieczności przewartościowania myślenia o zabytkach. W publikacji wyszczególniono kilka problemów i zagrożeń poruszanych w Karcie Weneckiej (1964) i Krakowskiej (2000) w nawiązaniu do berlińskich doświadczeń rekonstrukcji Berliner Schloß i restytucji Zamku Przemysła w Poznaniu. Poruszane są również kwestie konieczności partycypacji społecznej w zabiegach rekonstrukcji i możliwości, jakie dają portale społecznościowe oraz wykorzystanie komputerowej technologii do tworzenia wirtualnych modeli.

Cultural heritage creating the cities identity is the result of work and lives of many past generations. Hence, the processes of reconstruction, restoration of buildings and architectural sites are a source of ethical, aesthetic, historical and political controversy. Heritage and monumets of apparently unchangeable nature are embedded in a world subjected to evolution. Therefore, there is a need to redefine the space in it's physical and mental di mension. It is required to formulation general principles of heritage protection so that it suits the present, modern needs. The following text refers to the paradigm change of time and space - the so called spatial turn dating back to the end of the last century, the concepts of H. Lefebvre and related to it need for reevaluation of thinking about the monuments. The publication lists a number of problems and risks discussed in the Venice Charter 1964 and Cracow Charter 2000 refering to the case study - reconstruction of Berliner Schloß and rebuilding of the Przemysl Castle in Poznań. Also the issues of public participation in reconstruction procedures simplified by possibilities given by modern computer technologies, allowing development of detailed virtual models.
