Electrical resistance (or impedance) tomography is an electrical imaging technique from which it is possible to reconstruct an image of the resistivity through a cross section of an object. In typical industrial applications, electrodes are placed around the circumference of an object and a sequence of impedance measurements is recorded from which an image may be reconstructed. Electrical tomography includes electrical resistance (or impedance) tomography (ERT, EIT), electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) and electromagnetic tomography (EMT). It has several advantages comparing with the other tomography techniques, such as low cost, no radiation and rapid response. Electrical tomography is suitable for aqueous-based processes, (liquid/liquid mixing, solid/liquid mixing) observing biological processes like real time blood flow inside heart or subsurface imaging (eg. archeology). ERT offers a non-invasion, low-cost, non-destructive, non-radiation, visualization-measurement opportunities.
