European unification separates countries from nations. This process replaces ethnic community with the notion of citizenship. Mass culture introduces certain, common for everyone standards and values. Moreover, it also unifies communication codes and results in both the diffusion of cultures in a multinational state and so-called culture dualism. The global technical and managerial culture links with the cultures of ethnic communities gaining a hybrid shape, whose selected elements are difficult to distinguish. The process of integration leads to creating a new dimension of connections. Apart from ethnic communities’ and national states’ identities, there emerges a new type of a European citizen that the inhabitants of the European Union’s member states will identify with. Concentric circles appearing in this way will overlap and mutually penetrate. Nevertheless, they will not exclude or replace one another. Assuming the European Union’s future development, we will be both Polish and Silesian, Italian and Sardinian, German and Bavarian, and European as well.
