Szacowana liczba osób korzystających z wody zawierającej pestycydy wynosi ponad 7 min 300 tys., z czego blisko 4 min corocznie może mieć dostęp do wody, w której pestycydy występują w stężeniach przekraczających dopuszczalne stężenia określone w polskich przepisach prawnych.

Exposure on pesticides from drinking water rises due to large use of these chemical in agriculture, their persistency in the environment and as a result, the long-term pollution of aquifers. The limited water resources and climatic changes are also resulting in growing pesticide use In terms of long-term exposure in case of drinking water, even with very low concentrations of pesticides in it, may have in the long perspective negative impact on the health of humans, causing among others: sexual or immune system dysfunctions, changes in the central nervous system, endocrine disorders. The aim of this paper was to assess exposure of the population to the presence of pesticides in drinking water in Poland, using two classification methods: WHO and the GHS. The evaluation was carried out in the whole country on the basis of the results of analyzes conducted in 2005-2010 period as part of the control supervised by the Polish State Sanitary Inspection. The results show a significant level of threat. Estimated number of people drinking water containing pesticides is more than 7 million 300 thousand, from which nearly 4 million people annually may be exposed to water consumption with pesticides at concentrations exceeding the limits values specified in polish and European legislation.
