Yarns and Woven Fabrics Made from Cotton and Cottonised Flax Blends for Upholstery Applications

The paper presents the results of research concerning the properties of cottonised flax/cotton rotor blended yarns and fabrics for upholstery applications. A double carding technology was developed for producing rotor spun yarns of 29.5 tex, 59 tex, and 100 tex linear density from 30/70 and 50/50 cottonised flax/cotton blends. For comparison purposes, allcotton yarns of similar linear densities were spun using standard mill procedures and practices. The 30/70 cottonised flax/cotton rotor blended yarns were woven into three variants of fabrics that were tested for tensile and tear strength in both the warp and weft directions. The woven fabrics were evaluated concerning their suitability for upholstery applications.

Artykuł przedstawia wyniki prac dotyczących właściwości kotonizowanego lnu i mieszanek kotonina lniana/bawełna przędzionych rotorowo i tkanin przeznaczonych do zastosowań tapicerskich. Opracowano technologię z podwójnym zgrzebleniem dla produkcji przędz rotorowych 29,5 tex; 59 tex i 100 tex z mieszanek 30/70 i 50/50. Dla porównania zastosowano również przędze czysto bawełniane o porównywalnych masach liniowych. Wszystkie przędze produkowano z zastosowaniem standardowych warunków produkcyjnych tkalni i praktyki stosowanej w przędzalniach. Z wyprodukowanych przędz utkano tkaniny w trzech wariantach, które poddano badaniom wytrzymałościowym na rozciąganie i rozrywanie w kierunku osnowy i wątku.

This articles’ purpose is to present the various challenges that military logistics have to encounter during military operations and the means to supply the forces with the needed supplies at the right time and place. It is important to understand that the outcome of military operations depends not only on the firepower at our disposal, but also on the soldiers morale, which can be enhanced by supplying them with all they need. “By method and discipline are to be understood the marshalling of the army in its proper subdivisions, the graduations of rank among the officers, the maintenance of roads by which supplies may reach the army, and the control of military expenditure”. Sun Tzu, one of the greatest military strategist of all time emphasised the importance of supplies routes, because he knew that it can change the course of a war.
