The article analyzes three categories: co-existence, co-responsibility and interdependence in the context of contemporary discussions about the role of social pedagogy in building local communities. New possible approaches arise while using these concepts for addressing contemporary conditions of the communities which result in new tasks of education. There are analysed also the consequences of the transformation from the previous rather static (territorial) view of local communities, that had the aim to root people in existing social structures, towards more dynamic, open and diverse spaces. They are not considered only as physical places anymore but as new local relations that are being developed, based on not stable, however increasingly popular forms of sharing experiences. For these changes the studied concepts match the new realities and in consequence demand pedagogical considerations.

This study investigated coexistence of three dormouse species living in the same habitat, Naszaly-hill, in the north-eastern part of the Danube-bend (47 degrees 49'N, 19 degrees 08'E). The vegetation of the area is very diverse, comprising a mosaic of orchards with natural forests and forest plantations. Data were collected from 1999 to 2005 with wooden nest boxes and from 2002 to 2005 also plastic nest tubes were used. Study area was approximately 6 ha. All three species (hazel dormouse Muscardinus avellanarius L., forest dormouse Dryomys nitedula Pall, and fat dormouse Glis glis L.) have different ecological requirements. However, they occurred simultaneously in some microhabitats and in some places one species clearly predominated. We also observed how the ongoing succession process in the former orchards affected the distribution of dormice. There were seasonal differences in timing of emergence from hibernation, greatly affecting spatial distribution of the different species. Hazel dormice were first to appear in nest boxes and/or tubes, in March, then forest dormice in April and fat dormice in June. As numbers of fat dormice increased the smaller species withdrew from using the nest boxes. Fat dormice reached peak numbers in summer and they entered hibernation by October.

We study pattern formation induced by a spiral wave developing from heterogeneities in an excitable medium. Turbulence can be suppressed by a spiral wave from the heterogeneity, forming multiple coexistent systems of regular geometrical patterns. We find that the types of these patterns depend critically on the degree of heterogeneity. The underlying mechanism is due to dispersion relation which is characterized by excitability.

The effects of the coexistence of Controlling and other management methods (benchmarking, BPM, BPR, BSC, Competency-based Management, CRM, ERP, KM, LM, Outsourcing, Six Sigma, TQM) have been analysed. The complexity and dynamics of modern management systems in fact require simultaneous and/or sequential application of many concepts and methods of management. Controlling is a comprehensive method with an interdisciplinary character, which acts as an integrating plane for many methods and techniques. The coexistence of controlling with other management methods depends on the type of relationship between controlling and these methods. In the main, however, coexistence should be beneficial for an organization. Theoretical concepts on the relations between controlling and other methods are thus empirically tested by analysing the effect of using selected management methods, both in conjunction with controlling, as well as separately (business, efficiency, management, social and environmental effects). One-Way ANOVA was used based on a sample of 167 Polish organizations.

Mediation is proving to be an effective way to manage conflicts in a constructive way. But mediation not only helps to solve specific problems, because its potential encompasses aspects of greater complexity. Thus, mediation helps us to know ourselves better, to better understand others, and to use what we have learned to better manage future conflict situations. In a society where there is no culture of agreement and where there is no education in the field of emotions, mediation becomes an adequate and effective tool to resolve conflicts in a peaceful and constructive manner. On the other hand, mediation allows the parties to take responsibility for the resolution of their own conflict, to be active agents in the process. The greater the citizens’ participation in the different decision making processes, the more democratic a society will be. That is why, in the restoration of social peace, citizenship should play a role as an active agent, and mediation is a suitable instrument for this purpose because the individuals in conflict find the way to solve it without third party impositions.

The appearance of large-surface complexes has led to the creation of new trade, service and entertainment centers in cities; these complexes have an impact on their surroundings. Due to the large scale of the phenomenon, it is important to determine the zones and nature of this influence, discuss the problem of the relationship between a shopping center and a city, and the tendencies and perspectives of development of shopping centers. A shopping center competes with its home city for the attractive urban and suburban areas and the dominating role, especially in terms of a trade, service and public space. On the other hand, it coexists with the city by releasing/regaining lands that have been degraded and contributes to improvements in transport. The development of shopping centers throughout the world occurs on a quantitative level — with varying dynamics, but still their number increases, and, importantly, on a qualitative level — since their new forms with altered offers emerge. Changes observed should be noteworthy to all Polish policy-makers when making well-thought-out decisions regarding locations. Local authorities need to realize that the permits they issue influence more than the changes in the functional and spatial structure of a city or commune.

We encountered the co-existence of an aberrant origin of the right subclavian artery and a myocardial bridge on the left anterior descending coronary artery in the cadaver of an 80-year-old Japanese woman during the course of educational dissection at Nagoya City University Medical School. We document the precise gross anatomical findings with some morphometric measurements. Neither an aberrant origin of the right subclavian artery nor the cardial myocardial bridge is a very rare anomaly, but a case of both anomalies being found in the same body is very rare. We believe this is the first report of the simultaneous occurrence of these two anomalies.

The abundance of the sardine in the North Sea suddenly increased after 1995. Since 2002, the sardine has been spawning regularly in the German Bight, and all its life stages can be found in the area. The larval feeding ecology of two small pelagic clupeiform species with very similar life histories was investigated, the particular aim being to determine signs of food overlap. The distribution and feeding of sprat and sardine larvae were investigated during late spring 2003 on two transects covering a wide range of environmental conditions in the German Bight. Larvae co-occurred at all the stations investigated. Sprat and sardine larvae shared a wide range of prey types. Gut fullness and feeding success were similar in both species; however, potential food competition is avoided to some extent by different habitat preferences.

This contribution is dedicated to the insufficiently researched phenomenon of what are called “national keys”: principles the Yugoslav communists applied in their efforts at rigorously promoting a policy of brotherhood and unity. The goal of this text is to analyze the deepening contrast in the approaches to solving the league-wide crisis between the Bosnian communists. This group – even at in the twilight days of Tito’s Yugoslavia – were overseeing the policy of “brotherhood and unity” that had been in effect until that time, while representatives of the political parties that had newly formed in the 1990s were drawing on a nationalist principle based along ethnic-confessional lines. The essay analyzes both, across a backdrop of the culminating political and economic difficulties in the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Hercegovina in the 1980s. This work focuses on analysis of the modifying central premises for the peaceful existence of the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Hercegovina; i.e., on the transformation in understanding and utilization of the national key and on the essential consensus in constitutional questions between the three Bosnian-Herzegovinian ethnic groups in the era of socialism and in the period after the end of the Bosnian war (the second half of the 1990s).

Mają one na celu poprawę parametrów pracy sieci, opracowanie efektywnych metod kontroli zasobów, protokołów przełączania, metod wspierania mobilności i sterowania przekazami multimedialnymi, algorytmów wyboru tras i poprawę bezpieczeństwa. Winny też zagwarantować, w pierwszej kolejności koegzystencję, a w kolejnym etapie rozwoju współpracę różnych komponentów hybrydowych sieci 3/4G (5G). W artykule zaprezentowano wybrane technologie bezprzewodowe, ich podstawowe cechy i parametry. Wskazano wybrane kierunki rozwoju pakietowych sieci bezprzewodowych, na przykładzie prac prowadzonych w Katedrze Teleinformatyki (Wydział ETI PG).

Wireless packet networks gain popularity among both home and business users. They are no longer simply an alternative for wired solutions, but are becoming a significant competition for them - starting from personal piconets (WPAN), through wireless local and metropolitan area networks (WLAN and WMAN), to wide area solutions (WWAN). Research and implementation works supported mainly by IEEE and ETSI, practical installations and promotion activities are conducted on many subjects. They aim to improve network effectiveness and provide efficient mechanisms of resource control, handover, mobility, patch selection, security and support for multimedia transmissions. They also should ensure coexistence and, as a next step, cooperation of various components of 3/4G (5G) hybrid networks. In the article we present selected wireless technologies including their basic characteristics and parameters. We also indicate their important development directions based on research activities of Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics, Gdansk University of Technology.

The aim of this study was experimental verification of the practical application of ZigBee technology (IEEE 802.15.4) in distributed measurement systems. The assumption was to analyze the coexistence issues among different wireless technologies working in the ISM 2,4 GHz band. This paper presents a brief technical description of the ZigBee technology along with the description of the test environment. Experimental results prove the ability od ZigBee to work in a distributed measurement system - the main problem is the co-existence issue. The impact of Bluetooth (Fig.7) and WLAN (Fig.5, 6) on ZigBee results in frame loss (increase of PER factor), which should be taken into account during the early phases of distributed systems' development.

Jasmin HabibUniversity of WaterlooCanada Wall Art and the Presence of Absence Abstract: This photoessay takes the reader on a walking tour through Wadi Nisnas, Haifa, Israel, where art appears on walls and where walls become art. Using de Certeau, Jasmin Habib reflects on the way that these pieces represent the political and cultural histories of Palestinian displacement, a politics of belonging as well as their return.  The artists’ imaginary of coexistence is set in stark contrast to the nativism that marks the world outside of these walls. Keywords: Palestinians; wall art; photoessay; coexistence, de Certeau; Haifa

The investigation of mechanism of species coexistence promotes understanding of the mechanistic processes behind community ecology and ecosystem functions. Niche theory declares that species coexistence within a community must partition the resources of their environment. Two sympatric and morphologically similar bat species, Rhinolophus affinis and Rhinolophus pearsoni, provided a unique opportunity to test the causal mechanism of coexistence. Previous study showed that their coexistence was promoted not by the trophic and spatial niche differentiation but the relatively high abundance of prey resources, which was not in accord with the prediction of niche theory. Here, therefore, we reanalyzed the dietary composition by fecal analysis and surveyed the feeding time of both species. Our results showed that R. affinis and R. pearsoni hunt mainly mostly on Coleoptera and Lepidoptera, and there was a very high overlap (0.84) of trophic niche between the two species. However, significant difference in the duration of the activity period between both species was detected, which illustrated that temporal partitioning of prey resource use facilitated their coexistence. Additionally, our work highlighted the importance of integration of the traditional methods and next-generation sequencing methods for identifying dietary composition of carnivores, and suggested that ongoing studies of species coexistence must consider simultaneously multiple niche axes.

According to the theory of forest growth cycle, forest communities are dynamic mosaic systems composed of patches in different development stages. On basis of measurement of the four patch types [gap phase (G), building phase (B), mature phase (M) and degenerate phase (D)], the distribution pattern of different patch types and heterogeneity of the light and temperature along an altitudinal gradient were analyzed. The study forests were located in Larix chinensis forests in the Taibai Natural Reserve, and the whole forest was divided into three transects, i.e. low altitude (2900–3000 m a.s.l.), middle altitude (3100–3200 m a.s.l.) and high altitude (3300–3400 m a.s.l.). The implications of environmental heterogeneity on species coexistence and maintenance of species diversity were discussed in this paper. Our results were as follows: (1) In different elevation gradient, the proportions of the four patch types were different. Compared with low elevation and high elevation, in middle elevation, the proportions of gap phase and building phase were obviously lower; while the proportions of mature phase and degenerate phase were noticeably higher. In different elevation gradient, the distribution pattern of the four patch types was changed to some extent. (2) The daily change patterns of light and temperature in different patch types in forest cycle were different. The light intensity was much greater in gap phase than in the other three phases. The light intensity and its amplitude of changes in different patch types followed the order of G>D>B≥M. Air temperature in different patch types followed the order of G>B>D≥M. The amplitude of diurnal temperature changes in air and soil surface followed the order of G>D>B>M. (3) With elevation increasing, light intensity, the biggest air temperature, biggest soil temperature and temperature difference in four patch phase increased significantly, and average air temperature and average soil temperature significantly decreased. The spatio-temporal heterogeneity of ecological factors in different patch types in forest cycle provided a basis to maintain the coexistence of different species with different characteristics within forest community.
