Past and present activity of St. St. Cyril and Methodius National Library in Sofia is discussed. The library in question, the largest and the oldest cultural institution in Bulgaria, continues performing its traditional tasks alongside the implementation of new technologies and virtual services. Furthermore, it participates in many new international projects and conducts research in the field of library science, book studies, publishing, archiving, restoration and conservation of manuscripts.
