Clinical, cardiovascular and respiratory effects of Bio- ketan-Biowet (ketamine 100 mg/ml) used alone and Bioketan supplemented by xylazine were compared in dogs. The duration of Bioketan (35 mg/kg, im) action was short, muscle tone and salivation were excessive and heart rate increased significantly. There was also psycho-motoral excitation during recovery time. These side effects were eliminated by a combination of xylazine-Bioketan (xylazine - 2.0 mg/kg, im and Bioketan - 20 mg/kg, im). With that composition the degree of muscle relaxation, level of sedation and analgesia were higher, stable surgical tolerance longer and tachycardia of a lower value than with Bioketan used separately. Parameters of ventilation and acid- -base balance were within physiological range all the time but the cardiac output (Ca-v02) decreased transiently and arterial blood pressure increased at the beginning of anaesthesia. A composition of Bioketan with xylazine thoroughly relaxed muscle action and allowing the reduction of the drug doses and therefore making anaesthesia infusion safer.

Badania dotyczyły wpływu warunków klimatycznych na termoregulację fizyczną dwóch grup owiec utrzymywanych poza pomieszczeniami inwentarskimi. Przeprowadzono je w okresie jesiennym i zimowym na owcach rasy wrzosówka i mieszańcach muflona z wrzosówką. Badano następujące wskaźniki biotermiczne: temperaturę wewnętrzną (tr), temperaturę skóry (ts), okrywy włosowej (to) oraz przepływ strumienia ciepła (Q) w 4 punktach termostabilnych (Ts) i 2 termolabilnych (Tl). Jednocześnie wykonano pomiary warunków meteorologicznych, to jest temperatury (tp), wilgotności względnej (f), prędkości ruchu powietrza (vp) i wielkości ochładzania suchego (H). Na podstawie przeprowadzonych pomiarów wskaźników biotermicznych obliczono wskaźnik cyrkulacji krwi Burtona (B) oraz izolacyjność zewnętrzną (Iz) i wewnętrzną (Iw). Stwierdzono wyraźny wpływ czynników klimatycznych na temperaturę okrywy włosowej i wielkość przepływu strumienia ciepła z powierzchni skóry, nie odnotowano natomiast ich oddziaływania na temperaturę wewnętrzną oraz temperaturę skóry.

The research concerned the influence of the climate conditions, for the physical thermoregulation of two groups of sheep, which were keeping out of the inventory rooms. This research got through during autumn and winter, on the follows breeds of sheep: "Wrzosówka" and the cross of Muflon and "Wrzosówka". Such biothermical indexes were researched: internal temperature, skin temperature, hair temperature and the as well as total in 4 thermostabile and 2 thermolabile points. At the same time meteorology conditions were measured: temperature, relative humidity, air movement and cooling power. On the ground of that. Burton's blood supply index and internal and external isolation were counted. Clear influence of the climate factors for the hair temperature and the largeness of the as well as total were ascertained, however, their influence for the internal temperature and the skin temperature wasn't noted.

17 thermostabile and 9 thermolabile sites were used to measure the skin and body surface temperatures and the heat flux flow of 12 dairy cows. Obtained data supplied Burton's indicator of blood circulation, external and internal thermal insulation. Results indicate that in the range of the trunk /thermostabile sites/ the anterior body parts of examined cows were warmer than their posterior parts; the thermal situation was contrariwise as regards limbs /thermolabile sites/, where the fore legs were warmer than the hind legs. The remaining biothermal indexes corresponded to the temperature levels of the skin and body surface: the warmer parts were characterized by higher values of heat flow and Burton's circulation indicator only by lower levels of thermal external and internal insulation than the cooler parts. Differences between the warmer and cooler body parts of animals were statistically essential in relation to each of the discussed factors.

Studies were conducted on 8 cows and 22 heifers prepared as recipients of embryos. All the cows and 19 heifers were subjected to embryo transfers, the remaining 3 heifers being the control group. The temperature of the milk was taken automatically during milking and body temperature was measured rectally from the first day after synchronized oestrus up to 12 days following the embryo transfer. The heifers body temperature was taken rectally during the same period. Temperatures were recorded twice daily (in the morning and evening) and on the days of the embryo transfer they was recorded more often amongst the heifers. Following the embryo transfer, an increase in body and milk temperature was recorded in 6 cows, and in 12 heifers there was an increase in body temperature. In the decided majority of heifers (11) and in the majority of cows (4) an increase in body temperature occurred on the day of the embryo transfer. In the remaining animals this increase was recorded on the day following the embryo transfer. A probable reason for the increase in body and milk temperature in cows and body temperature in heifers, following embryo transfer, is considered to be an immunological response of the recipient's organism to the appearance of the embryo in the uterus.
