Two pentacene derivatives 1 and 2 were synthesized from the Diels-Alder reactions of furan derivatives with 1,4-benzoquinone. They were characterized by the methods of 1H - nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-NMR), matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS), ultraviolet and visible spectrophotometry (UV-VIS), photoluminescence (PL) spectrometry and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The energy gaps of 1 and 2, taken directly from spectroscopic measurements, are broad as 2.72 and 2.46 eV, leading to blue and greenish blue photoluminescence, respectively. The LUMO and HOMO energy levels are −2.77 and −5.49 eV for 1, and −2.91 and −5.37 eV for 2, respectively. The low energy levels make both 1 and 2 good air-stabilities and promising n-type semiconductor candidates for use in organic electronics.

Relativistic configuration interaction calculations with the inclusion of the Breit interaction, quantum electrodynamics and finite nuclear mass corrections have been carried out in the extended optimal level scheme using multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock wavefunctions on the forbidden transition probabilities for the 2p 4 ground state configuration of the oxygen isoelectronic sequence for 8 ⩽ Z ⩽ 42. Electric quadrupole and magnetic dipole transition probabilities are reported for transitions between several of these levels. Our results are compared with those from other theories and experiments. Our energy levels are in better agreement with experiment than other theories.

The aim of the performed experiments was to assess energy expenditure and static loads of the operator of a chain sawing machine harvesting timber in a pine stand intermediate cutting. The investigations included two technological variants. In variant I, all technological operations were carried out by one worker – operator of the chain saw, while in treatment II the operations were carried out by a team of three persons – two operators of chain sawing machines and a helper. The energy expenditure was determined on the basis of measurements of the ventilation of lungs, whereas the static load – using the OWAS method. The determined net unit energy expenditures of the chain saw operators in the experimental variants exceeded 20 kJ•min-1 and differed statistically significantly between one another. With regard to static loads, a greater proportion of positions negatively affecting the muscle-skeletal system of the operator were found in variant II.

W pracy oceniono wydatek energetyczny i obciążenie statyczne operatora pilarki pozyskującego drewno w trzebieży drzewostanu sosnowego. Badaniami objęto dwa warianty technologiczne, różniące się organizacją pracy. W wariancie I wszystkie zabiegi technologiczne wykonywał jeden robotnik – operator pilarki, w wariancie II pracowało dwóch operatorów pilarek i pomocnik.

This 2x2 factorial study was designed to test the effects of different diet energy levels (Low: 5.39 NEf MJ/kg and High: 6.60 NEf MJ/kg) and environmental temperature (Low: 19.84°C and High: 28.5°C) on triiodothyronine (T₃), thyroxine (T₄) and blood serum parameters of Holstein steers. A total of 28 10-month old steers were divided into 4 groups, each containing 7 steers. According to this design, steers which were subjected to housing in barns were either offered normal energy (Barn-NE group) or high energy (Barn-HE group) diets; steers which were subjected to housing outside were also either offered normal energy (Outside-NE group) or high energy (Outside-HE group) diets. The highest levels of T₃ and T₄ were in the Outside-HE group followed by Outside-NE group, Barn-HE group and Barn-NE group, respectively (p<0.05). Serum glucose, cholesterol and triglyceride levels were higher in all the outside groups (p<0.05). No differences were found between the groups in the total protein, albumin, uric acid, inorganic phosphor, Ca, Na and K levels. The levels of SCOT, SGPT, amylase, alkaline phosphates and creatinin were similar in all groups. The results of the study indicated that increasing energy levels and ambient temperatures increased T₃ and T₄ levels and did not affect serum metabolites except for glucose, cholesterol and triglyceride.
