The paper outlines geographic search technology as the future of research methodology. Due to the importance of geographical environment in the routine issues, the close connection between spatial extension and most of the phenomena running over the world, the geographic query process turns to be key factor in overcoming hazard decision-making and evalu-ation. We describe a two step process where derived output from spatio-textual research could be largely disseminated by spatial replication techniques. Spatial research differs in that it requires a combination of text and geographical data. The mathematical formula to calculate distances derives from the assertion that the Earth is nearly spherical (ignoring ellipsoidal effects) so great-circle distance formulas give the distance between points on the surface of the Earth correct to within 0.5% or so. Based on the search range and limit, we introduce the Cosine algorithm who offers better speed performance and data retrieval accuracy. Retrieved data exploit spatial replication technique potentiality. When it comes to spatial data we deal extensive amount of information. Web Gis Albania is an informative platform initially structured for academicals purposes further enriched with modules which support the spatial data circulation.

Session guarantees define required properties of a distributed system regarding consistency from the point of view of a single mobile client. Consistency protocols of session guarantees are composed of two elements: the first is aimed at providing safety (the guarantees), the second is aimed at providing liveness (data synchronization). This paper presents survey and correctness proofs of two new data server synchronization protocols, which solve main problems of earlier proposals.

Session guarantees define consistency properties of replicas in a distributed system from the point of view of a single, migrating client. Consistency is checked by ensuring execution of required operations by servers. Consistency protocols of session gua- rantees usually use version vectors for efficient representation of sets of writes. This paper presents performance evaluation of several consistency protocols of session guarantees that use different forms of version vectors. The evaluation was carried out by means of simu- lation experiments.

Surface topography, hardness and microstructure of nickel coatings electrodeposited on Si master with a periodical structure have been studied depending on vacuum deposited sublayer material (Ni, Cu or Ag). It is shown that the quality of replication of silicon master in a nickel shim electrodeposited simultaneously on different sublayers is dependent on the material used. All types of the analyzed coatings enabled transfer of lateral dimensions and showed good replication quality of the tested periodical structures (2 ?m period), while the structure replicated using the coatings deposited on the Ni sublayer exhibited the worst roughness. The hardness of the electrodeposited layers was found to be dependent on the sublayer material used as well as on the side of deposit. Despite the fact that the backside of nickel shim had the same hardness for all the sublayers used, it was found that the hardness of the working surface with periodical structure (the side that has been in contact with the vacuum deposited layer) is dependent on the sublayer material: the Ni and Cu sublayers increased the hardness of Ni coating, while for the nickel shim deposited on Ag sublayer the hardness was reduced.

The paper presents a strategy for achieving high dependability of a computer-based system devoted to endoscopic examination (ERS). Two levels of replication are used: hardware (3 computers) and database (redundant copies). Archivisation of documents describing patient examinations and films made during such examinations is described. The influence of the used techniques on performance and dependability of the replicated system is estimated.

In this paper I will pose a challenge to digital heritage visualisation that takes as its starting point the weirdness of the digital world in comparison to everyday experience. Related to this is the apparent inability for digital objects to benefit from or acquire aura from their originals. I contend that, unless mitigated, these properties will cause a continuing lack of engagement with digital heritage visualisation beyond the professional and academic circles in which they are created. Contrary to expectations, I will argue digital objects can indeed manifest an auratic quality and that this is in fact fundamental to how they are received by various audiences. I contend that both aura and the intimate relationship between digital representation, aesthetics and the creative imagination need to be understood and embraced in practice. Finally, I will suggest some ways of addressing the challenge by looking at modes of co-production, physical replication and aesthetic quality.

A swine vesicular disease virus (SVDV) replication assay in IB-RS-2, SK-6, and PK-15 cell cultures was performed using the xCELLigence system. The cell status was monitored by impedance measurement, expressed as cell index (CI). Proliferation of particular cells was examined at the beginning of the study. The cells exhibited the ability to form a monolayer, and the CI values increased with the cell culture growth. After about 23 h and while still in the growth phase, the cells were infected with decimal virus dilutions (10⁻¹-10⁻⁶) containing from 100 000 to 1 median tissue culture infectious doses (TCID₅₀). SVDV replication in cell cultures induced a change in cell index; together with the occurrence of cytopathic effect (CPE), the CI values declined. A significant correlation between the concentration of the virus used and CPE occurrence was found. The results also enabled determination of cell sensitivity to SVDV infection. The highest sensitivity was exhibited by IB-RS-2, followed by SK-6. To conclude, the xCELLigence System was used effectively and evaluated as being an efficient tool for CPE detection and SVDV replication analysis in cell cultures. Compared to the standard method, it enabled a more precise assessment of viral replication based on the quantitative CI measurement, providing additional current information.

Praca prezentuje system ERS (Endoscopy Recommendation System) przeznaczony do archiwizowania i analizy badań endoskopowych oraz problemy związane z zapewnieniem wymaganego poziomu bezpieczeństwa aplikacji medycznych. Proponowane są trzy różne rozwiązania: archiwizacja na płytach CD-ROM, wykonywanie zdalnej kopii zapasowej oraz sieciowa replikacja bazy danych. Rozwiązania te zostały przetestowane i zastosowane w Klinice Gastroenterologii Akademii Medycznej w Gdańsku.

The paper presents ERS (Endoscopy Recommendation System) and some problem of assuring the required level of security of medical applications. We concentrate on electronic documents of patient examiniations. Three different solutions are proposed and discussed: CD-ROM archivisation, network backup and network replication of database. chological research, various suggestions have been proposed concerning how to improve the current situation. Among them, a prominent place belongs to replication studies. However the authors aiming to critically evaluate conducted replications or to conduct a replication study themselves needs to explicitly reflect two crucial issues. The first regards conditions that need to be met in order to consider the second study as a replication of the first. This concerns the definition of replication and broader categorization of replication types from a methodological point of view, reflecting various conceptual and terminological issues. The second regards conditions that need to be met in order to say that the results of the replication study replicated/did not replicate the original study. This involves the way in which the study is statistically analysed with respect to its main goal. Therefore, the aim of the present article is to discuss and to summarize the present state of the literature regarding these two issues and to synthesize it into two functional classifications: A, various types of replications from a methodological point of view; B, various possibilities of data analysis from a statistical point of view. It is argued that instead of non-critically preferring one specific approach, the researcher should reflect the pros and cons of various approaches and the broader context of the goal of the replication study.

V rámci prebiehajúcej renesancie psychologického výskumu boli navrhnuté viaceré postupy, majúce potenciál zlepšiť súčasnú situáciu. Medzi nimi zastávajú prominentné postavenie tzv. replikačné štúdie. Autori, ktorý by chceli k realizovaným replikačným štúdiám zaujať kritické stanovisko, alebo replikačnú štúdiu realizovať, potrebujú reflektovať dve dôležité otázky. Prvá sa týka toho, aké podmienky musia byť splnené na to, aby mohla byť štúdia číslo 2 považovaná za replikáciu štúdie číslo 1. To sa úzko dotýka definície toho, čo možno pod replikačnou štúdiou rozumieť, a toho, ako možno replikačné štúdie kategorizovať z metodologického hľadiska, reflektujúc rôzne koncepčné a terminologické otázky. Druhá sa týka toho, aké podmienky je potrebné splniť na to, aby bolo možné tvrdiť, že výsledky replikačnej štúdie predstavujú „úspešnú/ neúspešnú“ replikáciu. To sa úzko dotýka toho, aký štatistický postup analýzy dát je využitý, a toho, aký je hlavný cieľ danej replikačnej snahy. Cieľom tohto príspevku je preto sumarizovať súčasný stav poznania pojednávajúci o týchto dvoch kľúčových aspektoch a následne ho syntetizovať do dvoch funkčných klasifikácií: A) rôznych druhov replikácií z metodologického hľadiska; B) rôznych druhov prístupov k analýze dát zo štatistického hľadiska. Autori argumentujú, že namiesto výlučnej preferencie toho-ktorého prístupu je potrebné reflektovať silné a slabé stránky viacerých prístupov a explicitne zvažovať širší kontext cieľa danej replikácie.

Equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) infections cause significant economic losses for equine industries worldwide as a result of abortion, respiratory illness, and neurologic disease in all breeds of horses. The occurrence of abortions caused by EHV-1 has repeatedly been confirmed in Poland, but neurological manifestations of the infection have not been described yet. Also it is unknown how the infection of neurons with non-neuropathogenic strains is regulated. To further understand the virus- neuron interaction we studied two strains of EHV-1 in murine primary neuron cell cultures. Both strains were isolated from aborted fetuses: Rac-H, a reference strain isolated by Woyciechowska in 1959 (Woyciechowska 1960) and Jan-E isolated by Bańbura et al. (Bańbura et al. 2000). Upon infection of primary murine neuronal cell cultures with Jan-E or Rac-H strains, a cytopathic effect was observed, manifested by a changed morphology and disintegration of the cell monolayer. Positive results of immunofluorescence, nPCR and real-time PCR tests indicated high virus concentration in neurons, meaning that both EHV-1 strains were likely to replicate in mouse neurons in vitro without the need for adaptation. Moreover, we demonstrated that some neurons may survive (limited) virus replication during primary infection, and these neurons (eight weeks p.i.) harbour EHV-1 and were still able to transmit infection to other cells.

Oxidative stress and certain environmental carcinogens, e.g. vinyl chloride and its metabolite chloroacetaldehyde (CAA), introduce promutagenic exocyclic adducts into DNA, among them 1,N6-ethenoadenine (εA), 3,N4-ethenocytosine (εC) and N2,3-ethenoguanine (εG). We studied sequence-specific interaction of the vinyl-chloride metabolite CAA with human p53 gene exons 5-8, using DNA Polymerase Fingerprint Analysis (DPFA), and identified sites of the highest sensitivity. CAA-induced DNA damage was more extensive in p53 regions which revealed secondary structure perturbations, and were localized in regions of mutation hot-spots. These perturbations inhibited DNA synthesis on undamaged template. We also studied the repair kinetics of CAA-induced DNA lesions in E. coli at nucleotide resolution level. A plasmid bearing full length cDNA of human p53 gene was modified in vitro with 360 mM CAA and transformed into E. coli DH5α strain, in which the adaptive response system had been induced by MMS treatment before the cells were made competent. Following transformation, plasmids were re-isolated from transformed cultures 35, 40, 50 min and 1-24 h after transformation, and further subjected to LM-PCR, using ANPG, MUG and Fpg glycosylases to identify the sites of DNA damage. In adaptive response-induced E. coli cells the majority of DNA lesions recognized by ANPG glycosylase were removed from plasmid DNA within 35 min, while MUG glycosylase excised base modifications only within 50 min, both in a sequence-dependent manner. In non-adapted cells resolution of plasmid topological forms was perturbed, suggesting inhibition of one or more bacterial topoisomerases by unrepaired ε-adducts. We also observed delayed consequences of DNA modification with CAA, manifesting as secondary DNA breaks, which appeared 3 h after transformation of damaged DNA into E. coli, and were repaired after 24 h.

Practical expediency of application of genetic and geometric modeling methods for automated synthesis of magnetic separator multi-unit (multi-inductor) cylindrical structures is shown. Genetic model of structure formation of cylindrical multi-unit structures of magnetic separators is proposed. «Isomer maker» software enabling spatial arrangements of cylindrical inductors on the basis of the data introduced by the user is developed.

W artykule pokazano praktyczną celowość aplikacji metody genetycznej I metody modelowania geometrycznego dla automatycznej syntezy separatora magnetycznego wieloinduktorowego o cylindrycznej budowie. Model genetyczny formowania konstrukcji o cylindrycznej wielojednostkowej budowie separatora magnetycznego został zaproponowany. Oprogramowanie ISOMER MAKER umożliwia przestrzenny układ induktorów ma podstawie danych wprowadzonych przez użytkownika.
