In this paper (the second of two parts) we propose a structural interpretation of Schroder’s work, pointing out his insistence on the priority of a whole in comparison with its parts. The examples are taken from the diverse areas in which Schroder was active, with a particular interest in his project of an absolute algebra.

The main goal of this article is to present the contemporary designer’s profession in the scope of its personal definition of ethic and social responsibility. In order to deal with, it will be showed some empirical data from own sociological research conducted among Polish professional designers. The opinions have described their attitude to the problem and made possible endeavoured to place collected opinions in broader, relational context of this profession. To bring more clearity to the matter, there will be also presented the definition of design, differentiation of roles undertaken by contemporary designers and their influence on shaping the material environment of human life.

The article presents the results of author's own survey, involving a large sample of companies. They made a basis for the identification of key measures adopted by businesses in the area of employee relations management. They include for instance the development of easily comprehensible documents (procedures & manuals), linking pay to performance, as well as encouraging the employees to submit their initiatives or ideas for operations enhancement.

I am regretting for the bad quality of my English, hoping that notwithstanding the reader can grasp at least the fundamental tracts of my reasoning.

The thickness, width, length and weight of five seed species (buckwheat, vetch, pea, lupine and faba bean) and their external friction angle were determined on two types of surfaces - steel and rubber. The experiment was performed with the use of a an inclined plane with an adjustable angle of inclination that measures the angle of external friction and the time taken by seeds to travel a given distance, which supports the determination of the coefficient of kinetic friction. The measured parameters were used to calculate arithmetic and geometric mean diameter, aspect ratio and sphericity index. The dimensions, weight and the calculated indicators of the examined seeds did not significantly affect their coefficients of static and kinetic friction or their coefficients of rolling resistance and rolling friction. The studied parameters were largely influenced by the type of friction surface, and significantly lower average values were reported for steel than rubber. In the studied seed species, the static friction coefficient was determined in the range of 0.187 to 0.582, kinetic friction coefficient - 0.134 to 0.479, rolling resistance coefficient - 0.148 to 0.529 and rolling friction coefficient - 0.29 to 1.80 mm.

Using the framework of discrete-valued relations, we give a simple proof of a theorem obtained by Stoyan Nedev. This theorem provides a generalisation of an element in the proof of Dowker’s extension theorem, which is essential for constructing continuous selections of set-valued mappings defined on collectionwise normal spaces. Using this relationship, we also give a simple proof of the Dowker’s theorem.

The paper applies selected devices of the methodology of Object-Oriented Ontology to study William Golding’s novel Free Fall. Particular attention is given to Graham Harman’s project, whose definition of an object accounts for all beings, humans included. Within the ontological structure of an object two components can be distinguished: the “sensual object”, which can engage in relationships with other objects, and the “real object”, which refrains from any connections. The author aims to show how the main protagonist of Golding’s novel is impacted on by material objects, how other humans are perceived by him as inherently dual beings, but most importantly how the protagonist himself discovers the thing-like quality of his own human condition.

The author hypothesizes that in the era of information technology, logic is the crucial tool of security sciences, and logicians have a greater role to play in this field than politicians. This viewpoint is held by two significant institutions dealing with the logic of security: Academia Diplomatica Europaea (ADE) in Brussels and US Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The author focuses on the assumptions and activities of Academia Diplomatica Europaea. ADE assumes that the major challenge to contemporary security is to change the enemy’s mentality into the mentality of an ally. To do this, one should analyse the following logical categories: the category of relations (between individuals and societies) and the category of hostility. ADE mainly focuses on social relations, with their sociological and psychological aspects, assuming that enemies have not only official, explicit opinions but also implicit ones, and learning these implicit opinions is a key to change the enemy’s mentality according to the aforementioned pattern. The author then discusses the methods relating to the logic of security used by ADE. Finally, in the light of the assumptions stated by ADE, he analyses the institution’s activities aimed at contemporary threats, the major threat being, according to ADE, terrorism.

Throughout history ethical and philosophical thought has been shaping various concepts of freedom. Global transitions and significant changes within economic, sociopolitical and cultural structures have raised new questions on postmodern human condition and the sphere of axiology. The paper presents selected aspects of freedom in the context of globalization according to the works of Emmanuel Lévinas and Zygmunt Bauman. A postulated concept of freedom is defined in relation to criteria such as dialogue, encounter, inter-subjectivity and responsibility, that are the foundations for tradition of the philosophy of dialogue. The article aims at highlighting social challenges and chances, in terms of the fast-changing world, and outlines the importance of discussing the problem of freedom in dialogical approach in the 21st century.

Holy Trinity is the Communion of Persons. Relational understanding of Persons in the Holy Trinity is closely related to the concept of perichoresis. Most importantly, God is the Father. He is the Trinitarian source of Deity and exists in the Communion with the Son and the Holy Spirit. The mystery of love in God H.U. von Balthasar expresses with the help of the concept of kenosis, which did not take place only at the moment of incarnation or death of Jesus on the cross, but in God himself. In explaining of this image Balthasar does not use the full harmony of the meaning of communion, but dramatic metaphors of “killing”, “expropriation”, “separation” and even “absolute distinction” between the Father and Son. However, there is a question about the legitimacy of abandoning the metaphor of mutual community commonly used in Trinitology.

The paper proposes an approach to construction of semantic metrics based on thesaurus of the domain of linguistics. The process of constructing a thesaurus is described. A way is proposed to use the built knowledge base to find potential partners who are engaged in similar research issues in the subject area for which thesaurus was constructed.

All creatures have been created by God in order to live in relation among themselves, and also between themselves and their Creator. No creature has been created in order to live in solitude. The relationship is an expression of love. God is love, and his love is expressed in the permanent relationship He has with the other Person of the Trinity, and also with entire creation. Therefore, man, created in the image and likeness of God, is called to live in a relation with his Creator, as well as with other creatures surrounding him. Post-modern currents contrary to the family reduce marriage to only a legal contract, without any stable and lasting dimension. Pope Francis stated that there is a kind of world war with the purpose of destroying marriage. The consequences of this “war”, not only fall on the spouses, but also on children, and ultimetely, on God Himself, because it destroys the design that He had thought for the family. The relationship that God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, has wanted to manifest to humanity, finds its highest realization in the “love of the enemy”. This is the beauty of the relationship of Christian love, of the new man, of marriage and family, according to the original design of God.

In the article the problems of relations between supervisors and subordinates are presented. The author tried to find the answer to the question if they are partners or rivals. Seeking this answer three research goals were to be realized and research hypothesis was to be verified that the way of treating subordinates by supervisors was a key determinant of subordinates’ contentment. The results of the correspondence analysis applied towards the field data allowed to confirm the hypothesis. Six other variables were analyzed in the article too. The character and power of potential dependences between them and respondents’ contentment and their openness to recommend the employer were studied. It allowed for hierarchical ordering of identified dependences and drawing important conclusions having cognitive and applicable value.

Beata Mytych-ForajterORCID: 0000-0002-0588-2087 Wydział FilologicznyInstytut Nauk o Literaturze Polskiej im. Ireneusza Opackiego Abstract The Animal That Is Not ThereThe text constitutes an attempt to  discuss the  idea of  the  “animal” itself, which is  an empty set. Following Jacques Derrida’s line of  thought, we  remain surprised, asking what links the  elephant with the ant or the echidna with the hedgehog. The only benefit of the concept of the “animal” lies in revealing the  way in which humans try to extricate themselves from the  net designed by them for “animals,” but ultimately end up wrapping it tightly about themselves. The question about the so-called “animal” constitutes part of the battle over language that seems to have forgotten that it was born from the relation with animals; however, it preserves this knowledge not in the scientific jargon, but in those of its registers which allow people to talk about the individual relation not with the “animal,” but with the concrete individual of a concrete species.

Otherness is encountered, noticed and, as the case may be, analyzed in a relation, because it is in a relation that the identity of I and the identity of You is revealed, and our identity is basically rooted in the individual constitution of a specific I and a specific You. The aim of the present study is to probe the phenomenon of otherness (alterity), and through it the fundamental question of who is the other we encounter, and next to show the main ways of experiencing the encounter with the other, whichalways occurs in the sphere of good and evil. In Józef Tischner’s view the experience of the other is a fundamental one, in that it reveals much of our own self-experience. My encounter with the other also throws into relief myself as the other and the fact that his otherness is different from mine. In the beginning of this discovery of otherness, the gap between I and You appears to be unbridgeable. But Tischner believes that the sensation of separateness and even of “being alien” assumes a kind of similarity, with the proviso that the latter occurs on the plane of our mutual being foreach other. Tischner stresses otherness in similarity and similarity in otherness, both constituted and coexistent in the relation between I and You. Tischner’s idea involves a paradox: to open oneself to the alterity of the other, we have in a way to “bear” our own otherness and thereby to come to be “for the other”.

The world is a stage where everything is just a thing, even man. We discover it in an intentional opening. However, if we make a dialogical opening, man is no longer an object, but becomes a subject. Here we meet man as The Other and not as Another, an alien. Where do we encounter him? On the road, at the inn. What is needed? Setting a primal distance and entering into relation, in Martin Buber’s terms, or a dialogical opening and personification, entering into language or speech, according to Józef Tischner. On the road, at the inn where everyone is another, an alien, we become the other.

The paper is aimed at systematizing the thoughts of Mieczysław A. Krąpiec on the subject of relations. The author reconstructs Krąpiec’s justification for the reality of relations, the distinction of necessary relations, and the importance of relations in metaphysical cognition. The analyses are conducted on the basis of the following problems: a) the existence of beings, and especially the subontic relationship between essence and existence that runs through all reality; b) the way in which beings exist and are cognized, where transcendental relations indicate the analogous character of these beings; c) the cognition of the Absolute, which is only possible through the discovery of transcendental relations in contingent beings.
