Purpose. This study aims to identify the impact of the Special Olympics’ Unified Sports program on the personal development of its participants. Methods. A qualitative method was used, which included gathering data by interviewing individual athletes and unified teams, by collecting individual personal histories and by use of connection charts from five European countries that participate in the Unified Sports program. A total of 221 data samples were recorded. Results. Athletes reported improvements in their abilities on the field as well as increased fitness and technical ability. They emphasized the importance of team-work and trust between athletes. Improvements in confidence, self-esteem and communication skills were also reported by athletes. Partners also reported a positive change in attitude towards people with intellectual disabilities. Friendships were a central and vital aspect of taking part in the teams. Friendships developed between athletes and partners. Athletes reported increased access to community “places” such as sports facilities and social venues. Conclusions. Unified Sports is an exciting initiative that holds much promise in transforming the life experiences of young athletes with intellectual disabilities. The impact of the Unified Sports program on the personal development of participants applies to all areas of human functioning - physical, mental and social. Our evaluation suggests that its concepts and modes of operations transcend national boundaries and cultures at least within a European context.

Personality development of man involves permanent education and development of all spheres of development units in all its development stages. A particular importance of early childhood and preschool should be noted. It seems that the child's contact with the book determines especially the development of the intellectual sphere. In fact, however, it is different because the book not only develops, the intellect of a child, but such areas as:development: emotions and feelings, the sphere of social, aesthetic, moral, religious and spiritual. As a result, all the spheres determine the overall personal development of a child, making it easier to reach an adult psychological maturity. Children's literature, as well as bibliotherapy are a key factor in the personal development of both healthy children and children with disabilities

Coaching is commonly assumed to mean a special form of relations that is based on the processes of learning, motivation, dialogue and support thereby facilitating the development of the organization. Modern organizations face adaptation challenges resulting on the one hand from changeable circumstances inside the organization and on the other (or rather primarily) from the attitudes of managers. Operating in an efficient manner and dealing with unpredictable situations requires new skills. They include a holistic approach to the system, the climate of mutual trust that results from personal development, enhanced consciousness, development of one’s own potential and replacing fear with the faith in people. This is one of the subjects addressed in this paper.

A turquoise organization is one of the new organization models, created in the course of research by the Belgian business practitioner F. Laloux. The basic assumptions for the functioning of this organization, otherwise known as a teal organization, are a sense of mission, wholeness of humanity and self-management. The aim of the study is to indicate the personal development of employees as the main condition for transformation into a turquoise organization. In addition, the basic social and cultural barriers of the expected personal change were pointed out, with particular emphasis on Polish conditions. The basic barriers include, first of all, a low level of social trust together with unacceptable openness in expressing emotions, a faulty educational system, and barriers related to organizational culture. The study was based on literature studies and the presentation of the results of selected foreign empirical studies.

Do podstawowych barier zaliczono przede wszystkim niski poziom zaufania społecznego wraz z nieakceptowalną otwartością w wyrażaniu emocji, wadliwy system edukacyjny oraz bariery związane z kulturą organizacyjną.

This paper discusses the key competencies in the 21st century in the context of a transition to a new humanistic paradigm of education as well as the results of the PISA 2012 study “Creative Problem Solving.” Contradictions between traditional skills and 21st century competencies of a school graduate are analyzed. The article also discusses contradictions between social needs of a person with a highly developed intellectual, spiritual and moral potential, and an insufficient development of theoretical and methodological bases of the student’s key com- petence development, as well as between the traditional methods of computer science teaching and the necessity to solve problems during the educational process supported by the use of ICT. The results of the application of ICT teaching methods based on the principles of humane pedagogy are presented, and their effectiveness is confirmed.

The issue of the subject-subject relationship, also known as the relationship of encounter or the I-Thou relationship, which has a strong presence in the humanities and Christian mysticism, is rarely addressed by psychology. This type of relationship goes beyond the psychosocial approach to personal maturity and human development at the so-called higher stages, thus falling outside the predominant lines of psychological inquiry. Consequently, this paper concerns issues that are not popular in psychology, albeit they are close to the problem of the person’s development as a subject. Drawing inspiration from cultural anthropology and intersubjective philosophy – especially Martin Buber’s philosophy of dialogue and Gabriel Marcel’s concrete philosophy – the author presents from a psychological stance the phenomenon of the subject-subject relationship and its prerequisite conditions. Adopting the perspective of personalistic psychology in its existentialist-phenomenological strands, the author indicates the place of this relationship in human personal development and highlights its crucial significance to this process.

Old age is a period of human life, in which may occur many physiological, psychological and social changes. Individual faces the challenge typical for this period of development: retirement, adaptation to old age, transcendental wisdom and finally preparation for departure. Aging individuals are affected by phenomenon like ageism or gerontophobia. Obszar rozwoju osobistego to kolejny z obszarów, w którym osoby starsze dotyczy wykluczenie i marginalizacja.

The last few years are the time of the ongoing integration of Europe and its vivid discussion about it. The thorny issue is the role and the place of Christianity in the life of Europe. Pope John Paul II had authoritatively taught on the issue. His teaching is a kind of antidote against those who are in favour of Europe without God. The European culture is not a monolith since it is inhabited by many nations with a different characteristic but all are rooted in the same values of the Good News acknowledged on the Continent. The present time – and especially the centuries after the Enlightenment – seems to be the time of abandoning Christianity. As the result of such a process, Europe witnessed two totalitarian systems responsible for numerous crimes. A human being wanted – without God’s participation - to decide about right and wrong. They were tempted like the first parents in Eden. They were changed from godlike humans to objectified ones – from “homo sapiens to homo demens”. John Paul II and many authors dealing with the processes of mankind underlined the need to build unity in Europe in close connection to Christianity. Christianity is an important element of culture in which the man is not restricted to his mortal life but opens up for a supernatural perspective. Through Christianity the European culture is richer and the man fully developed. Taking Christianity into consideration in his life, man can discover the truth about himself and his true relation to God. Only the truth allows man to grow and achieve his perfection, whereas falseness condemns him to the degeneration.

Poddano analizie i dyskusji następujące zagadnienia: (1) terapeutyczna obecność jako facylitująca narratywne rozumienie Ja klienta, (2) doświadczanie terapeutycznego spotkania z własnym, niepowtarzalnym Ja, (3) rozmowa z Giną: odnajdywanie sensu niepełnej egzystencji, (4) pielęgnowanie więzi źródłem energii i oparcia.
