The purposeful processing of long-term documented maintenance data can provide plenty of information not only about a machine's history, but also about its maintenance system. The main objective of data analysis is to continually improve the maintenance efficiency, which is closely related to improvements in dependability and overall productivity of the production equipment. This paper pinpoints the main problems of most widespread indicators of maintenance efficiency - OEE and other proposed alternative methods for maintenance efficiency assessment, with the aim of locating the weakest areas of the maintenance system.

Purpose. The purpose of this paper is to present a simple, table-graphic model of one-to-one play in soccer based on observation of cooperation of top soccer players. Basic procedures. The research material consisted of audio-visual recordings from six soccer matches played by the three top teams of the 2006 World Cup finals. The data concering one-to-one plays was entered on a special form. Offensive and defensive actions were assessed with reference to the implementation of the game's objectives and players' position in the field zones. Main findings. It has been proven that elite soccer players are most effective at intercepting the ball down the field and in other zones of the pitch. They are also very active in breaking their opponents' offensive actions in midfield. Conclusions. The models reflecting elite soccer players' efficiency in one-to-one play should constitute important references for the training of novice soccer players.

W artykule omówiono zagadnienia związane z eksploatacją mikrociągników jednoosiowych. Źródłem danych, które zostały wykorzystane w niniejszej pracy, były charakterystyki techniczne w dostępnych materiałach źródłowych udostępnionych na stronach internetowych i w katalogach producentów maszyn. Analizie poddano podstawowe parametry techniczne i eksploatacyjne wybranych mikrociągników . Badania przeprowadzono na modelach dostępnych na rynku w roku 2013.

The concept of usage efficiency of one-axial micro-tractors, that, more and more, are used for work at maintaining green areas, municipal tasks or in horticulture, was described and verified in the paper. The aim was to define the term of usage efficiency. Micro- tractors made by Honda, Pasquali, Vari, Stiga manufacturers were the object of research studies. The range of the work included the analysis of technical solutions as well as the investment and exploitation costs. It was found, on the basis of studies, that technical solutions significantly improve annual utilization of working assemblies with micro-tractors. But some of the technical solutions do not directly influence usage efficiency. All summaries presented in the paper are aimed at focusing the prospective purchaser to make the best choice both economically as well as functionally.

Gases from technological processes are used more and more often in many branches of industry. A gas turbine is used for electricity production and also to deliver air for technological processes. The heat of gases from processing is used to decrease energy consumption of the process in many cases. It is also possible to save the primary energy of fuel and limit pollutions, which are hazardous for the environment. We can give many examples where a turbine set is combined with a manufacturing process: chemical (nitric acid production), iron and steel industry, petrochemical industry (catalytic cracking process) [1,2,3,4,5,6].

Purpose: To incorporate a new value theory based on co-productivity into the value chain analysis. Methodology: We develop a theoretical model of co-productivity and analyze selected examples of high co-productive value chains. Our theory modifies value theories based on the classical approach (A. Smith, D. Ricardo, K. Marx), production factors of land, capital, labor, and knowledge (J.B. Clark), subjective value for the consumer (C. Menger, W.S. Jevons, and L. Walras), exchange value (A. Marshall), energy value (I. Prigogine), value added for the customer (M. Porter and P. Drucker), information value (V. Rometty), and customer attention (M. Goldhaber). Findings: We demonstrate that the co-productivity theory deeply connects all hermeneutic sources of value creation, but more importantly, it opens opportunities for adopting future-oriented sources. Originality: We present an original theory based on co-productivity, previously unused in logistics. We show how the theory helps to shape more effective value chains.

Background: Hyperbaric therapy is a relatively new non-invasive therapeutic method. It involves inhaling the patient with pure oxygen using a pressure of 2 to 3 absolute atmospheres (ATA). The main purpose of this therapy is to improve the healing mechanisms and repairing processes in the case of various types of wounds and diseases. While in medicine this method is quite popular, in sport it is rarely used today and if so than mainly for the purposes of faster return to full fitness of athletes after injuries or after heavy, intense training conditions. Case study: Two subjects took part in the experiment. Training sessions were performed based on the selected original set of exercises within 29 days. Experiment participant was under conditions of increased pressure (2.5 ATA), during the session he breathed 100% oxygen, provided by the individual respiratory system. The measurement of muscle strength level of selected muscle groups, in selected motor tasks was estimated in (maximum weight – which is the maximum external resistance defeated in one repetition). It was found that there were increases in the level of muscle strength in selected muscles groups in first participant as a result of the applied set of exercises (motor tasks) and the effect of the hyperbaric sessions. Conclusions: The results of the study show that there was a visible/significant influence of the hyperbaric session on increasing the muscle function based on strength training example. This method in combination with adequate strength training sessions could be used in many areas connected with psychomotor development of human abilities.

Autor artykułu podjął próbę oceny obecnej efektywności wykorzystania energii elektrycznej w odniesieniu do PKB w Polsce w porównaniu z krajami starej Unii Europejskiej (UE-15) oraz wskazania elementów mających kluczowe znaczenie dla większej poprawy wykorzystania energii elektrycznej w Polsce. W tym celu - na podstawie oficjalnych danych statystycznych Eurostatu i GUS - obliczono i przeanalizowano odpowiednie wskaźniki wykorzystania energii elektrycznej dla Polski i średnie dla krajów UE-15.

The current energy efficiency in Poland with relation to GNP is compared to similar indices in EU-15 countries (based on official Eurostat and GUS statistics) and key factors influencing energy efficiency in Poland are indicated.

Efficiency, the basic concept of multi-objective optimization is investigated for the class of pairwise comparison matrices. A weight vector is called efficient if no alternative weight vector exists such that every pairwise ratio of the latter’s components is at least as close to the corresponding element of the pairwise comparison matrix as the one of the former’s components is, and the latter’s approximation is strictly better in at least one position. A pairwise comparison matrix is called simple perturbed if it differs from a consistent pairwise comparison matrix in one element and its reciprocal. One of the classical weighting methods, the eigenvector method is analyzed. It is shown in the paper that the principal right eigenvector of a simple perturbed pairwise comparison matrix is efficient. An open problem is exposed: the search for a necessary and sufficient condition of that the principal right eigenvector is efficient.

The purpose of the article is to present the use of network DEA for evaluating the efficiency of Polish universities. Network DEA assessment of operating efficiency of universities was compared with the single stage DEA results that focus on teaching efficiency, research efficiency and aggregate performance. The study presented in the paper – though limited in scope – shows that biggest Polish universities are diversified in regard to the efficiency of their performance.

This paper presents the initial results of a significant research project conducted under the IOC PhD Student Research Grant Program with the support of the Hungarian Olympic Committee. Macro- and meso-level analyses were conducted within the framework of this research to analyze the competitive position of the Hungarian elite sport policy system. In the following, an essential part of the research will be presented with the aim of modeling the efficiency of the Hungarian sport funding system as the increasingly international sporting competition forces governments to invest more money in elite sport development just so they can maintain their elite sport success as the supply of medals remains basically constant. Due to these diminishing returns to the scale of investment, an elite sporting system with an efficient structure will be key in future sporting success. Data collection was based on information gained through a general questionnaire and interviews with the main stakeholders of national sport federations and the Hungarian Olympic Committee, which is the main governing body of Hungarian high-performance sport. Data collection focused on the sixteen prioritized sport federations and the five team sports that benefited from a tax relief system. Secondary data were collected regarding the national public funding for sport, elite sport, and sport by sport since 2006, and Gracenote’s database was used to analyze historical performance in the different disciplines and compare Hungarian performance with that of other countries. This research will provide information to policy makers about the competitive position of Hungary in elite sport and, in this respect, explore the critical success factors that will allow Hungary to assess how best to manage its future success in an increasingly competitive international environment.

The article defines the coefficient of the unit energy consumption of water pumping in pump group. Correct pump operation in pump group are described during cascade control, at variable rotational speeds and in the highest range of efficiency. A method of determining the unit energy consumption of water pumping for these control systems are defined at any daily demand and known pump H(Q) and efficiency curves are plotted at nominal rotational speed.

The competitiveness of a company depends on the Intellectual Capital (1C) resources of the company, as well as on the ability to use them in the global market. But nowadays, use of the iC is not optimal in companies because there is lack of methods and techniques which give managers some kind of advice how to use properly their own intellectual potential - obviously maximizing advantages for the company. It also lacks research concerning what each component of the structure of 1C influences on gaining competitive advantage and increasing value of the whole company. The Intellectual Capital created in the company could have higher efficiency if it was possible to identify all its components and to know the measurement methods. The aim of this article is not only to describe all aspects of 1C Management but also to present a practical approach to the effective use of 1C, which is applied in consultancy and training companies. The authors also focus on some determinants of 1C and give some advice for managers about the way they could increase value of the company. As a result, the article suggests the comprehensive model of efficiency of use 1C. Thanks to this model the company could evaluate influence of the 1C in creating value and building competitive advantage on global market.

The article presents the results of the research on the possibility of using a trickling filter for high efficiency treatment of dairy sewage. Nowadays, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, it is possible to change the activated sludge system to the trickling filter technology, especially in small dairy plants with lower raw sewage parameters in comparison to larger plants. In the research, dairy wastewater after dissolved air flotation (DAF) process was treated with a laboratory scale Gunt CE701e research model which allows to control the basic parameters of the treatment with a trickling filter (TF). The conducted study included determining the changing sewage parameters during the DAF process, as well as the trickling filter (TF) efficiency. Such parameters as Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), total Organic Carbon (TOC), total Kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN) and total phosphorous (TP) were checked. The research results confirmed the possibility of high efficiency treatment of dairy sewage with DAF and trickling filter technologies. The average efficiency of DAF treatment was 59.3% for BOD, 49.0% for COD and 80.0% for TP, while the average treatment efficiency of TF was 87.3%, 78.3% and 27.9% without recirculation and 95.2%, 85.5% and 42.0% with 100% recirculation applied, respectively. The load of TF during the operation without recirculation was on average 0.22 kgBOD5∙m-3∙d-1 and 0.25 with 100% recirculation. Applying recirculation allowed to reach the BOD, COD and total phosphorus standards for the sewage discharged to a receiver from Bielmlek dairy WWTP. On the other hand, the concentration of total nitrogen exceeded the permitted standards in this facility.

The study presents an important part of fourth chapter of the monograph 'Energy Consumption in Relation to Fuel Efficiency Under Complex Driving Conditions' (2003) concerning opportunities to improve vehicle drive efficiency through application, during one phase of driving in neutral in two-phase driving cycle. Theoretical simulation of total energy consumption in vehicles with SI engine provided explanation of a relatively low fuel efficiency observed under real driving conditions in serial cars [1]. The study cites the original method of calculations developed by the author in order to calculate the efficiency of vehicle power unit in two-phase driving cycle assuming that one of the phases might be non-driving. The calculations were made for complex driving conditions, i.e. simulated changes with predefined steps for road slope (-3.5o to 3.5o), acceleration (-0.36-0.36 m/s2) and average speed (60-140 kmph) for a distance of 2x500 m. The results of calculation variants for each type of a drive system of a car proved that there are significant limitations of optimising the fuel consumption of cars. The first one is conditioned by the fact that the engine works at full dynamic load and the second one by the fact that idle running is against the 'Highway Code'.

The need for rationalization of expenditures, the desire for greater financial discipline and the search for savings as a part of economy of physical and financial resources determine the need of development and continuous improvement of mechanisms (instruments) aimed at enlarging the efficiency of self-government finances. Internal audit is an instrument that could enhance management of self-government entities in the rationalization of finances, as well as in protecting society against wasteful and inefficient spending of public funds. This article attempts to assess the internal audit as an instrument supporting the efficiency of self-government finances. According to the survey it is demonstrated that internal audit in its current statutory form and in the way it is realized by the majority of self-government entities is focused primarily on legality criteria, paying less attention to the economic criteria for evaluating local finances, ie. efficiency and thriftiness.

Przeprowadzone eksperymenty numeryczne nie pozwalają ustalić, która ze stosowanych metod estymacji (Quenouille'a i iiltracji) jest bardziej efektywna, mimo że oťrzymane w wyniku ich stosowania estymatory nie są identyczne. Wydaje się, że ze względu na różne asymetrie ich rozkładów i różne wielkości ich obciążeń, dobrze byłoby rozważyć nowe estymatory jako ich średnie ważone.

In civil responsibility transportation insurance the insurer assesses risk, inflicted by drivers, on the basis of observable risk factors such as e.g. driver’s sex and age, vehicle characteristics. However, there are risk factors unobservable directly, accounting for substantial differences of risk among drivers. Additional piece of information about driver for the insurer is the number of claims for a given year i.e. the insured claim record. The role of the bonus-malus systems is to verify premium height through assigning the insured to appropriate tariff class on the basis of his claim record. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the methods of the assessment of the effectivity of the bonus-malus system.

W ubezpieczeniach komunikacyjnych ОС ubezpieczyciel szacuje ryzyko, jakie reprezentują kierowcy, na podstawie obserwowalnych czynników ryzyka, takich jak np.: płeć i wiek kierowcy, cechy pojazdu. Jednak istnieją czynniki ryzyka, bezpośrednio nieobserwowalne, istotnie różnicujące kierowców pod względem poziomu ryzyka. Dodatkową informacją dla ubezpieczyciela o kierowcy jest liczba zgłoszonych w danym roku szkód, czyli przebieg szkodowości ubezpieczonego. Zadaniem systemów bonus-malus jest weryfikacja składki poprzez przyporządkowanie ubezpieczonego do odpowiedniej klasy taryfowej, na podstawie przebiegu szkodowości ubezpieczonego. Celem artykułu jest wskazanie metod oceny efektywności systemów bonus-malus.

This article presents results of research on the efficiency of public prosecution organizational units by means of the DEA method. The study covered 45 public prosecution regions, whose technical and cost efficiency were analyzed. It also examined the impact of the returns-to-scale effect on their overall efficiency. Additionally, the authors present potential savings that could be achieved if units considered to be inefficient improved their efficiency. The results obtained show that the DEA method is very useful in analyzing the efficiency of public sector entities when a given service is rendered by more than ten such entities.
