The study was carried out on 16 clinically normal stallions of Polish Primitive Horses in the in the reproductive season (April - July). Four stallions were infused with endotoxin (LPS) from Escherichia coli 055:B5 at doses of 0.3 mg/kg b.w. (group ENDO). Twelve stallions were treated with flunixin meglumine (1.1 mg/kg b.w., IV) for 5 min. (group E+FM1, n=4), 30 min. (group E+FM2, n=4), and 60 min. (group E+ FM3, n=4) after the administration of LPS. The study was meant to determine the concentration of testosterone (T), estrone (E1), estradiol-17b (E2b), total protein (TPR), albumin (ALB), zinc (Zn), cholesterol (CHOL), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activity in the seminal plasma of stallions. The administration of endotoxin had an influence on the T, E2b, E1 and TPR, ALB, CHOL concentration, as well as on AST activity in seminal plasma (in the period of the 24h-9th weeks after LPS administration). There has been a statistically significant decrease noted noted in the T, to 0.18 ng/ml (ΔT - 21.7%), and an increase in the E1 to 45,3 pg/ml (Δ E2b - 46.1%), E2 β, to 92.9 pg/ml, (Δ E2b - 45.6%), as well as in the: TPR, to 22.3 g/l (Δ TP - 76.9%); ALB, to 1.9 g/l (Δ ALB - 94.0%); CHOL, to 0.52 mmol/l (Δ CHOL - 21.0%), and AST, to 68.1 mU/109pl. (Δ AST-138.4%). The positive effects of treatment with flunixin meglumine were noted on T, E2β, ALB and CHOL concentrations in seminal plasma, especially of stallions group E+FM1.
The aim of the study was to determine the effect of dexamethasone injections on changes in seminal plasma testosterone and oestradiol-17b concentration and biochemical characteristics in stallions following endotoxin administration. Three clinically healthy stallions were infused intravenously with endotoxin (LPS) from Escherichia coli 055:B5 at a dose of 0.3 mg/kg b.w.; while four stallions were treated with dexamethasone (0.069 mg/kg b.w., IM) 10 min before the administration of LPS. Endotoxin administration elicited (24h-9 weeks after LPS administration) a significant (P < 0.05) decrease in seminal plasma testosterone (T) and an increase in oestradiol-17β E₂β concentration. Administering endotoxin also influenced the seminal plasma biochemical components including total protein (TPR), albumin (ALB), total cholesterol (CHOL) concentration, and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activity. A significant (P < 0.05) increase in TPR, ALB, and AST was noted. Dexamethason administration (DEX) had a different effect on endotoxin and induced testosterone and oestradiol-17β changes in the seminal plasma and biochemical quality of the stallion’s semen. DEX treatment had no influence on T, E₂β. The positive influence of DEX was noticed in TPR and AST. The negative influence of administering LPS+DEX in the group of stallions which only received LPS was noted particularly in ALB and CHOL.
The effects of Escherichia coli endotoxin and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) on certain clinical and pathological variables and serum testosterone concentration were studied in the breeding stallions. The study was conducted on 10 stallions of Polish Primitive Horses divided into three groups: group I (n=3) - exposed to 0.3 µg/kg b.w of LPS Escherichia coli; group II (n=3) -treated with physiological saline solution and human chorionic gonadotropin in the single dose of 6,000 IU; and group III (n=4) - given endotoxin and hCG. Rectal temperature, scrotal skin temperature, heart rate, and white blood cell count were determined. Serum blood samples were measured for testosterone concentrations. Comparing the group of stallions with the saline solution+hCG with endotoxin-treated stallions, there were significant clinical and haematological alterations (fever, with rise of rectal and scrotal temperature, tachycardia, and leukopoenia). Endotoxaemia resulted also in changes of serum testosterone concentration (with early decrease and later increase). The hCG has not prevented the decrease in level of testosterone.

Przedstawiono działalność produkcyjną Zakładu Doświadczalnego Instytutu Odlewnictwa w zakresie jego współpracy z przemysłem cementowym, rozpoczętej w latach sześćdziesiątych. Zakład ten wprowadził do przemysłu z bardzo dobrym wynikiem szeroką gamę odlewanych mielników ze stali chromowej, wykorzystywanych w młynach do przemiału surowca, węgla i cementu. Dostarcza między innymi płyty do chłodników rusztowych, odlewy żarowytrzymałe i odporne na ścieranie, stosowane w piecach obrotowych, wymiennikach cyklonowych i palnikach, rury nurnikowe w cyklonach wymienników ciepła, łańcuchy żaroodporne z różnego rodzaju stopów, śruby do mocowania elementów żaroodpornych, a także kotwy do mocowania wyłożenia ogniotrwałego w cyklonach. Inne zagadnienia technologiczne to odlewy ze staliwa stopowego odpornego na ścieranie, a równocześnie o dużej wytrzymałości mechanicznej i odporności na udar. Stanowią one wyposażenie młynów do przemiału surowca, cementu i węgla.

The production activity of the Pilot Plant at the Foundry Institute in the domain of its cooperation with cement industry, started in sixties, is presented. This Plant has introduced into the industry, with very good results, a wide range of cast grinding media of chromium steel, used in the mills for raw material-, coal- and cement grinding. It delivers among other things plates for grate coolers, creep-resisting and abrasion-resisting castings used in rotary kilns, cyclone preheaters and burners, plunger pipes used in preheater cyclones, heat- resisting chains of all kinds of alloys, screws for damping heat-resisting elements as well as anchors for damping refractory lining in cyclones. Other technological problem concerns abrasion-resisting and simultaneously high mechanical strength and high impact strength castings of alloy cast steel, which constitute the equipment of the mills for raw material-, cement- and coal grinding.
