LiIn(WO4)2 single crystals and nanopowders doped with chromium(III) ions were synthesized and investigated, including their EPR spectra and magnetic properties. The EPR spectra have shown low and high field lines attributed to isolated chromium ions with an electron spin S=3/2 and complex chromium centers with higher spin value, respectively. Magnetic susceptibility measurements revealed an almost linear dependence on the magnetic field. The electron resonance and magnetic properties have been related to the structural and spectroscopic data of the studied material.

Two novel Schiff base ligands of 2-amino-3-cyano-1,5-diphenylpyrrole and salicylaldehyde (HL1) or 2- hydroxy1-naphthylaldehyde (HL2) and their copper(II) complexes have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, spectral (UV-Vis, IR, EPR, Mass (for ligands)), thermal (DTA-TGA) methods, magnetic and conductance measurements. IR results demonstrate the bidentate binding of the Schiff base ligands involving azomethine nitrogen, phenolic or naphtholic oxygen and suggest the presence of HL2 and complexes (1, 2, 4 and 8) in enolimine-ketonamine tautomeric forms in the solid state. The EPR spectral data of complexes (2, 5, 6) show that the metal - ligand bonds have considerable covalent character. The thermal studies show that complexes (1, 2, 4 and 8) that are present in enolimine-ketonamine tautomeric forms exhibit lower thermal stability. The effect of synthesized ligands (HL1, HL2) and complexes (1, 5) were tested on the mortality of entomopathogenic nematodes (EPN) (Heterorhabditis bacteriophora and Steinernema carpocapsae). The study shows that the mortality of the nematodes increased with increasing concentrations of copper(II) ion, ligands and complexes. Copper(II) ion was the most toxic for EPN. [...]

Electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy at X-band (9.3 GHz) is used as the tool of optimalization of storage of thermally sterilized aminoglycoside antibiotic - streptomycin. Thermal sterilization at different conditions was performed according to the norms. Changes in free radicals system of this drug during storage after sterilization were detected. Lineshape analysis and microwave saturation of EPR spectra were done. Free radical concentrations were determined. Microwave saturation EPR analysis is proposed as useful method to determine the best conditions of storage of sterilized drugs.

Carbon materials, bamboo (Bambusa vulagris) and yucca (Yucca flaccida) pyrolysed at 550°C, 750°C and 950°C, were tested as oximetric probes by electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy at X-band (9.3 GHz). The following parameters of the spectra: amplitude, linewidth and g-factor, were determined. Influence of oxygen molecules 02 on EPR spectra of the individual carbon materials was compared. Strong EPR spectra were recorded for samples carbonized at 550°C and weak signals were obtained for plants carbonized at higher temperatures: 750°C and 950°C. It was stated that amplitudes of EPR lines of all the carbonized plants decrease in the air environment compared to amplitudes of spectra measured in vacuum. This effect increases with degree of vacuum. Changes in the EPR spectra of samples studied in the air environment may be applied in medicine to determination of oxygen content in different cells. Because of strong resonance signals as oximetric probes we proposed bamboo and yucca carbonized at 550°C, and we rejected plants carbonized at 750°C and 950°C with Iow EPR signals.

Copper(II) complexes with the commercial auxin herbicides 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4D; C8H6O3Cl2) and 2-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)-propionic acid (2,4DP;C9H8O3Cl2) were prepared and characterized. On the basis of the results of elemental analysis and Cu(II) determination, the following molecular formulae were proposed for the obtained compounds: Cu(C8H5O3Cl2)2.4H2O (Cu-2,4D) and Cu(C9H7O3Cl2)2.H2O (Cu-2,4DP).Water solubility of synthesized complexes at room temperature was determined. The complexes have been characterized by IR, VIS and EPR spectroscopy, conductivity (in methanol and dimethyloformamide), magnetic measurements and X-ray diffraction analysis. Thermal decomposition of these compounds in air was studied by TG, DTG, DTAand TG/MS methods with simultaneous analysis of the solid and gaseous products.
