The aim of this study was in vitro evaluation of the level of the immune response in relation to wound dressings composed of alginate, calcium carboxymethylcellulose, and dibutyrylochitin and determination of the direction of response, which will make referring next to the results of in vivo phase possible. The subject of the experiments was to examine the commercially available, biodegradable alginate dressing, commercially available but not biodegradable dressing constructed from the sodium carboxymethylcellulose, and synthesized in house biodegradable dressing constructed of the dibutyrylchitin. To determine the direction of the immune response, the degree of secretion of pro-inflammatory interleukin (IL-1, IL-6) and antiinflammatory (IL-10) interleukin from murine fibroblasts having contact with the tested dressings (ELISA enzyme linked immunosorbent assay), was tested.

W pracy dokonano oceny możliwości wykorzystania biodegradownych kopoliestrów termoplastycznych na opatrunki stosowane w weterynarii. Dla zrealizowania badań fizykomechanicznych przygotowano kompozycje na osnowie biodegradowalnego, termoplastycznego kopoliestru termoplastycznego firmy NaturePlast, modyfikowanego związkami miedzi oraz dwutlenkiem tytanu z dodatkiem mikrocelulozy. Metodą wtryskiwania wytworzono następujące kompozyty: kopoliester z 15% domieszką miedzi (TPU-M), kopoliester z 15% domieszką bieli tytanowej (TPU-B), kopoliester z 15% domieszką celulozy (TPU-C), kopoliester z 5% domieszką miedzi, 5% domieszką bieli tytanowej oraz 5% domieszką celulozy (TPU-Z). Na otrzymanych próbkach wykonane zostały badania zmian podstawowych właściwości wytrzymałościowych na kolejnych etapach degradacji hydrolitycznej oraz cech mikrostruktury dla oceny homogenizacji wszystkich trzech składników. W podsumowaniu przedstawiono wnioski z badań oraz podano przykład możliwości wykorzystania zaproponowanej kompozycji na opatrunek wykonany z biodegradowalnego kopoliestru.

The paper evaluates the possibilities of using biodegradable thermoplastic copolyesters for dressings used in veterinary medicine. In preparation for the physico-mechanical research, compositions based on the biodegradable, thermoplastic copolyester manufactured by NaturePlast, modified with copper compounds and titanium dioxide with the addition of microcellulose were prepared. The following compositions were applied using injection method: copolyester with 15% copper admixture TPU-M, copolyester with 15% titanium white admixture TPU-B, copolyester with 15% cellulosem admixture TPU-C, 5% copper admixture copolyester, 5% titanium white admixture and 5% cellulose admixture (TPU-Z). On the samples obtained, a research on changes in basic strength properties was carried out at subsequent stages of hydrolytic degradation and microstructure characteristics for the homogenization of all three components. The conclusions of the study were summarized in the following paper and an example of the possibility of using an exemplary composition for a dressing made from biodegradable copolyester was suggested.

Use of small autologous skin grafts or leaving the defects and waiting for their spontaneous reepidermization are one of the methods of wound management after surgical treatment of hand contractures in Epidermolysis bullosa. This techniques are believed to allow quick wound healing, however this does not seem universally possible.The aim of the study was to assess healing rate and incidence of early recurrence after using of both techniques.Material and methods. Eleven operations of hand contracture were performed, including two recurrent cases after previous surgeries. Skin grafts were used in eight cases. Kirshner wires were not used and the fingers were stabilized in an extended position only with a supportive dressing. In the early postoperative period, dressings were made in the operation room and patients were admitted for 24-hour hospitalizations no more than once a week.Results. Complete healing before day 35 was achieved only in five cases. In the remaining cases, dressings in the operating room were abandoned between day 35 and 40 and the patients were referred to further treatment in the outpatient setting. Outpatient dressings were done without anesthesia which in the event of unhealed spaces between the fingers, seemed to impair their separation and facilitate early recurrences of syndactyly. Two cases of early recurrence (18%), during the first year after the operation, were noted in one patientConclusions. Our results indicate that the postoperative wound healing does not depend on the use of skin grafts and can be much longer than some previous studies suggested. This shortens the period of full efficiency between the recurrences. Clinical observations also indicate that this affects the risk of early recurrences. Despite that, their number is similar to the value considered good in the literature.

The way and advantages of each modification as well as application of the modified product is described. Application of modified starches produced by National Starch in production of fruit fillings, mayonnaise and salad dressings is thoroughly discussed.
