Management will become in the near future, together with knowledge, the main motor of reorganization and investing in new technologies. The transfer of knowledge is the most important area of KM and the barriers of transfer of knowledge were discussed. Inducing workers to distribute their knowledge, contacts and experiences, not only in the form of passive accumulation is recognised as the first step in the direction of the effective development-oriented management of a modern company.

The development of the knowledge-based economy throughout the world has brought about many consequences for organisations operating in Poland. The organisations with the greatest chance of success are those which sell innovative, knowledge-saturated products and services. Survival in the business world requires the sharing and spreading of knowledge; this is to say the transfer of knowledge, the importance of which grows with the number of people a company employs and customers it has. Creating knowledge in an organisation requires the participation of rank and file workers and lower staff, middle-ranking management and managerial staff. The quality of the knowledge they acquire and produce depends on their direct and everyday experiences. Based on a study carried out in the organisations of the Podkarpackie voivodship, the attitude of managerial staff and employees towards sharing knowledge has been evaluated.

Human capital is one of the factors which impact one’s occupational life. On the one hand, having gone abroad, migrants are not always able to utilise the non-pecuniary capital accumulated in Poland prior to migration. On the other hand, during their stay abroad migrants can obtain various types of capital, including human capital in the form of knowledge, skills and competencies. This capital can impact their occupational life after return. However, this impact is conditioned by various factors, both structural and individual. As demonstrated through the analyses of the life histories of Polish return migrants, the transferability and employability of capital acquired abroad highly depends on the opportunity structures migrants face upon return. According to migrants, the capital transferred to Poland is rarely connected to specifi c occupational skills obtained abroad, but more often to social competencies which facilitate their operating in the, usually harsher, Polish labour market.
