Antoine Volodine and Christian Garcin both make a distinctive use of shamanism in fictional novels. By multiplying shaman characters and intertwining the shamanistic principles and the narrative, they develop a poetic of instability noticeable through various hybridization processes notably strengthened by the intrusion of supernatural elements. The analysis of three motives in which this game of unstable balance is particularly mirrored – identity, History and fiction – shall turn our attention to the role of shamanism as a vector of fictional dynamism.

In a society characterized by ever-changing identity- and boundary-redefinition, the confines among different kinds of art are shifting consistently. Painting, photography, and cinema often surface in post-modern literature directly or indirectly. In particular, intertextual connections, generated by the intertwining of cinema and literature in literary works, lead to the creation of new text types which can hardly be classified according to traditional genre taxonomies. This essay aims to investigate some hybridization processes, triggered by the presence of cinema in literary texts, through the analysis of two novels which claim a direct connection with cinema: Paradis Conjugal d'Alice Ferney (2008) et Le Garçon incassable de Florence Seyvos (2013).

The need to beautify urban public space, and also to exploit its functional and spacial potential, as part of the process of adapting cities to modern social and civilizational realities, stimulates the appearance of new solutions and methods for its creation. The popularity of the idea of the „compact city” as a counterbalance to the phenomenon of „urban sprawl” results in public space developing in many regards in the direction of verticalness.

The variable renewable wind and solar resources have experienced a significant growth on its rate of deployment as a clean and competitive alternative for conventional power sources in Jordan. However, the variability of these sources have brought many technical challenges to grids. This paper presents a hybrid system that provides a firma capacity and improves dispatchability with an interesting financial perspective. This hybrid system includes a wind farm and a concentrated solar power plant with thermal energy storage. The performance analysis was conducted in terms of final yield and capacity factor, while the economic analysis investigated the levelized cost of electricity LCOE. The hybrid plant was simulated and optimized using TRNSYS 17 energy simulation software, minimizing the LCOE and considering a capacity factor higher than 65% as a constraint. Solar multiple and storage size were considered as decision variables. A strong complementarity between wind and direct normal solar radiation was observed in the selected location in Jordan, which emphasizes the attractiveness of the selected hybrid system. The optimal configuration of the CSP-wind hybrid system was obtained with a solar field of a 2.6 solar multiple and a 5 hours energy storage. The achieved capacity factor was 94%, and the LCOE is lower than those resulted for standalone CSP plants.

Hybridization is the crossing of individuals of two populations that differ in one or more of the basic hereditariness features. In the nature there are reproduction isolation mechanisms that are blocking interspecies hybridization of animals. In fish, more often than in other vertebrates, interbreeding occurs. This is due to external fertilization and the specificity of the living environment. Under breeding conditions hybridization of fish, including salmonids, is easy to implement and under natural conditions in interspecific hybrids such as salmon and trout appear to relatively rare, due to the presence of insulating mechanisms, mostly related to the separation of spawning sites. One of the main factors causing hybridization is, as a result of anthropogenic activities, disruption of the normal water conditions causing fluctuation of water level in rivers and reduction area of spawning sites. Hybridization is a process that has a significant role in the process of evolution and the creation of new species. Hybridization is often used in biotechnology, in order to obtain specimens of advantageous, in terms of aquaculture, features. Thanks to hybrydization populations are obtained with higher tolerance to cold, salinity, ammonia and better growth rates and greater resistance to disease. Note however that, given the growth of known hybrid taxa, it is essential to conduct comprehensive research on the hybridization of fish, in order to preserve and develop natural resources, and full understanding of physical and ecological changes will allow to protect better clean species. It is therefore necessary to protect natural populations against breeding individuals from experiments, which is not always realized. To preserve the natural populations it is crucial to protect limited areas species occurence, which is important especially when conducting restock and catches of fish. It is very important to preserve or restore the correct state of the natural environment and to consider each decision relating to implementation of new species due to exposure of wild populations to introgression. Hybridization advantageous in terms of biotechnology is therefore a major threat to wild populations, which, through appropriate measures, should be especially protected.

The paper deals with research devoted to the study of the impact of globalization on Slavic languages. Globalization is a process which covers many spheres of life. The driving force of globalization, as scholars claim, were economic processes. Therefore, globalization has been studied mainly from this perspective. The consequences of globalization manifest themselves in politics, society and environment. Culture, and language as an integral part of culture, are globalized as well. On the one hand, language is the object of the influence of globalization. On the other hand, language mirrors this process. The subject of this research is to show how globalization is reflected in language. The aim of this research is to analyze the changes that have taken place in Slavic languages in the past decades and to identify those trends (including negatives ones) which appeared in Slavic languages. The researchers write that hybridization threatens local cultures and national languages. Is this actually the case? This question should be answered after thorough studies of language material. This paper concerns other aspects of research: the period of the research, research material and its contribution to scholarship.

Background: The Travelling Salesman Problem is an NP-hard problem in combinatorial optimization with a number of practical implications. There are many heuristic algorithms and exact methods for solving the problem. Objectives: In this paper we study the influence of hybridization of a genetic algorithm with a local optimizer on solving instances of the Travelling Salesman Problem. Methods/Approach: Our algorithm uses hybridization that occurs at various percentages of generations of a genetic algorithm. Moreover, we have also studied at which generations to apply the hybridization and hence applied it at random generations, at the initial generations, and at the last ones. Results: We tested our algorithm on instances with sizes ranging from 76 to 439 cities. On the one hand, the less frequent application of hybridization decreased the average running time of the algorithm from 14.62 sec to 2.78 sec at 100% and 10% hybridization respectively, while on the other hand, the quality of the solution on average deteriorated only from 0.21% till 1.40% worse than the optimal solution. Conclusions: In the paper we have shown that even a small hybridization substantially improves the quality of the result. Moreover, the hybridization in fact does not deteriorate the running time too much. Finally, our experiments show that the best results are obtained when hybridization occurs in the last generations of the genetic algorithm.

Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance (LSPR) mediated electromagnetic field enhancement play a vital role in enhancing the performance of bio-molecular sensors, photovoltaic cells and Raman spectroscopy (e.g., in SERS) etc., to name only a few. It is now well established that the field amplification factor (mode squared field) ~106 for spherical shaped plasmonic nanoparticle dimers is significantly higher than the amplification factor of a monomer which is ~103. In this work, a theoretical and semi-analytical approach based on multipole spectral expansion is used to investigate the electric field enhancement in the gap region of spherical nanoparticle dimers of Al, Rh, Ag, and Au. The dimer exhibit rich spectra compared to its isolated counterpart. For example, in contrast to a monomer, the dimer spectra consists of multiple resonant peaks which can be fine tuned by varying particle size and/or inter-particle separation. Moreover, the enhancement in dimer is several orders higher than that in monomers. Rich spectral features in dimer spectra arise from the interaction between particle plasmons of constituent NPs and their hybridization, which results in the splitting of plasmonic energy levels. We carry out, systematic investigation of these systems to quantify the effect of particle size, interparticle separation and metal type (Al, Ag, Au, Rh) on electric field enhancement.

The objective of this article is to further examine Nordic media systems beyond the tenta- tive Democratic Corporativist Model introduced by media scholars Daniel C. Hallin and Paolo Man- cini in their important work Comparing Media Systems. Three Models of Media and Politics. Further- more, the article discusses distinct features of media and politics-relations in the Nordic countries and attempts to identify key factors constraining or promoting a possible liberalization or hybridization of the media systems in Nordic countries. The empirical data is based on a secondary analysis of avail- able media statistics in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. A comparative approach is used to analyze whether the Nordic countries actually meet the standards of the Democratic Corporativist Model or if they are drifting towards a more liberal media model. The main conclusion of this article is that the Nordic media systems are becoming more liberal due to diminished influences from gov- ernments and political parties. However, traditional Nordic media institutions remain strong and have been successful in adapting to new conditions thus creating new hybrids of the Nordic and the Lib- eral media models.

Wind power engineering has recently achieved a high level of technical development and is also an attractive alternative from potential investor's point of view. As well, politicians are in favor of wind power engineering, because it is consistent with economic rules, environment friendlyand supported by a society. The growing importance of none exhaustible energy resources evokes many problems connected with cooperation between existing energy supply systems. Hybridization of energy sources and accumulators and formation of virtual enterprises seem to be the best solution.

The paper discusses the results of fieldwork among the Daba in Cameroon and the Dogon in Mali. The author confronts indigenous conceptualisation of wealth distinguishing both sorghum wealth and money wealth with such theoretical constructs as post-tribal society, tribal economics, pristine affluence and petite production marchande. The analysis of specific behaviors and conceptualizations of the chosen conceptual category from the Daba and Dogon worlds shows how the process of hybridization of contemporary African rural communities culture has contributed towards coexistence of cultural patterns typical for the domestic mode of production (subsistence logic) and patterns that are taken over from a market economy (small-scale, commercial farming and income logic).

Televised political advertising appears in very different national political communication contexts. Sweden is an interesting case study. For many years, political ads on TV were not allowed at all. However, with the transition from analog to digital terrestrial television the public service obligations of the “hybrid” channel TV4 were dismantled. In the 2010 national election campaign, all Swedish parliamentary parties bought advertising time on TV4. This article intends to shed new light on political TV ads as a new campaign feature in a rapidly transforming political communication environment. The study relates to the concept of hybridization of election campaigns and intends to increase knowledge about hybridization processes by focusing on a critical case where one of the most adopted campaign practices worldwide is finally implemented within a specific national context and deviating political culture.

The second novel written directly in French by Atiq Rahimi, A Curse On Dostoevsky, calls on the masterpiece Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky. This novel shows various aspects of the hybridization of the author. The Russian novel is manifest in the French novel in two ways: implicitly by the moral reflections on the divine justice and the human justice, and explicitly by many elements of the text (title, epigraph, paratexts, quotations, paraphrases etc.). Being a lot more than a simple pastiche, the French novel is indeed the rewriting of the famous crime committed by Raskolnikov. It is its intertextuality which makes the novel of Rahimi a kind of dialogue with the novel of Dostoevsky on the mode of the rewriting of the reflections and the reformulation of the questions developed in the work of the latter. What are the similarities and the fundamental differences between the character of Rassoul, main character of Rahimi, and that of Raskolnikov, protagonist of Dostoevsky? How has Rassoul become a failed pasticheur? What punishment are they to be subjected to in a country engulfed in an endless fratricidal war? These are the questions to which the present study will seek to find the answers.

Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) experiments with specific probes for chromosome 29 and 25 were carried out on a Brown Swiss bull, previously diagnosed as a carrier of 1;29 centric fusion. The hybridization of the chromosome 29-specific probe (BMC 4216 - already located on 29q13), produced signals on two small acrocentrics, but not on the translocated chromosome. The signals appeared on the translocated chromosome and on a single chromosome 25 after hybridization of the chromosome-specific probe (BMC 3224 - previously located on 25q24). According to the actual nomenclature, the analysed aberration is a robertsonian translocation involving chromosomes 1 and 25.

In Southern blot analysis of Paramecium genomic DNA using β-adrenergic specific oligonucleotides labelled with Digoxigenin-ddUTP, the DNA species of the same molecular size were detected by different molecular probes. The 6.5 kb DNA species hybridized with the probes directed to the adjacent β2-receptor transmembrane domains: to TM3 - including Asp 113 involved in β-agonists and antagonists binding, and to TM4 - the oligonucleotide being one of the "gene-specific universal mammalian sequence-tagged site”. Since a profound physiological effect of beta-agonists and antagonists has been previously observed in Paramecium, such a hybridization pattern may suggest an existence of Paramecium DNA sequences homologous to those of metazoan eukaryotes encoding for a membrane beta-adrenergic receptor.

Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) is a very useful method for assessing chromosome rearrangements. When neither banding pattern nor clinical symptoms are sufficient to determine the origin of additional chromosomal fragment, FISH with multiple chromosome-specific libraries (chromosome painting), allows to solve this diagnostic problem rapidly. Three chromosomal additions, 7q+, 13p+ and 22q+, found in routine cytogenetic studies performed in children with phenotypic abnormalities were analysed using FISH. This technique documented the origin of the extra material to be derived from chromosome 16[der(7)t(7; 16)(q36.3;p 13.11)], 18[der(13)t(13; 18)(p12;q 12.2)] and 22[dup(22)(q11.2q13.1)], respectively. In two cases the abnormality arose de novo, while in the third case the product of translocation t(13;18) was maternal by origin. It was present in 30% of mother's lymphocytes, and in 70% of them a balanced Robertsonian translocation t(13q;15q) was found. In the presented cases the chromosome analysis with both traditional banding and chromosome painting techniques, allowed to establish final clinical diagnosis.
