The Awkward Moments Test maps understanding of other’s minds in older children and the aim of this study phase was to verify its psychometric parameters (in Slovak population). Participants were elementary school pupils (n = 312) between 10.58 and 15.92 years of age. AMT was administrated together with Imposing Memory Task and Basic Empathy Scale. Results show that 1) AMT has high inter-rate reliability (Intra-class correlation range from 0.985 to 1), 2) the internal consistency of AMT questions was verified (Cronbach’s Alpha range from 0.590 to 0.787), 3) there were no correlations among mind-reading items in AMT, IMT and BES, 4) girls were significantly better than boys in mind-reading, and 5) age differences in mind-reading were found only for children up to 12 years. The conclusion is that the Slovak version of AMT is up to standards and can be used in practice (respecting recommendations on the AMT instructions).

People often pay too much attention to numerators and inadequate attention to denominators, this phenomenon is called denominator neglect. The aim of the study was mapping of frequency of denominator neglect, comparison of results with results of other studies and examination of possible moderators of denominator neglect. In two studies a total of 533 participants complete the Jellybean task, Vienna Matrix Test, Master Rationality Motive Scale, Cognitive Reflection Test, and Rational-Experiential Inventory. Results show that 1) denominator neglect was strongest in case of 8% probability (regardless whether alternative probabilities were equal or unequal), 2) motivated participants made significantly less suboptimal choices than unmotivated participants, and 3) there was no effect of cognitive ability, motive for rational integration and experiential thinking disposition, but low cognitive reflection and rational thinking style predicted denominator neglect.

Research concerning mindreading has dealt extensively with its (in) dependence on executive functions. However, surprisingly few studies focused on direct relationship of mindreading with intelligence, although it has been proposed that the high level mindreading in older children and adults is dependent on general cognitive skills. In the study two advanced mindreading tests were employed and data about participants’ verbal abilities were obtained. There was no significant correlation of verbal ability and memory with any of the mindreading tasks. Our results demonstrate a lack of significant linear relationship of mindreading with the intelligence domains, language and memory as well as support the argument that mindreading exists as a specific independent cognitive domain.

There are several available measures that can help us to distinguish between two general types of processing, usually known as intuitive and deliberative. In the current study we examined two of them, Rationality-Experiantility Inventory and Preference for Intuition/Deliberation Scale in Slovak sample of 860 working adults and students (Study 1). In Study 2 (with N = 428 participants) we verified the 2-factor structure of REI after rephrasing problematic items shown in Study 1. The results showed that both PID and REI have good internal consistency, structures of Slovak versions correspond with the original versions. We found also some gender and age differences, and identified three factors (decision-making based on affect and holistic processing, decision-making based on creativity and cognitions, and planned, deliberate decision-making).
