EN
In designing the mooring positioning system of the ship two basic requirements for limitation of the ship displacements and mooring wire strength are to be complied with. Apart from these conditions, additional technical service requirements are also imposed. It is quite easy to observe the additional requirements for the mooring positioning system to be fitted on a new ship. However, ensuring compliance with the requirements for the existing ship, especially especially small one, is a difficult task and therefore some optimizing calculations are then necessary. This paper describes design of the mooring positioning system for a small salvage ship. Working out of the project required the system to be adapted to the ship parameters.

This is the first publication from a series of articles devoted to the issues of underwater exploration carried out for litigation purposes. The present paper suggests that an exploration strategy should be defined as: all actions that aim at creating and implementing a plan of exploration, conducted with the application of a defined exploration methodology - here understood to refer to the technical way the task is completed. Such an approach is taken in order to ensure the most adequate involvement of means and resources for the plan’s implementation. Since the choice of strategy affects many aspects that range from the technical to the environmental, this first part focuses on the location of the exploration and the anticipated conditions.

EN
Determining the efficiency of breathing air purification for hyperbaric purposes with the use of filtration systems is of a crucial importance. However, when the Polish Navy took samples of breathing air from their own filtration plant for quality purposes, these were found to not meet the required standard. The identification of this problem imposed the need to undertake actions aimed at the elimination of the identified disruptions in the process of breathing air production, with the objective of assuring its proper quality. This study presents the results of the initial tests on the air supply sources utilised by the Polish Navy, which were carried out for the purpose of setting a proper direction of future works and implementing corrective measures in order to optimise the breathing air production process. The obtained test results will be used in a subsequent publication devoted to the assessment of the level of efficiency of air purification with the use of a multifaceted approach consisting in the utilisation of various types of air supply sources and different configurations of purification systems.

The paper deals with strength calculations of steel elements under combined stetic and periodic loadings. Two design criteria, (i) and (ii), are presented which ensure that not only the multiaxial stress does not exceed the ultimate (or yield) strength of the material but also that the combination of multiaxial mean stress and multiaxial periodic stress does not lead to fatigue failure in design (i) for an infinite fatigue life and (ii) for a finite fatigue life. It is assumed that the stress components are phisically independent of each other and that for each of them the corresponding q-N cure is given. The load modes and material anisotropy are taken into account.

The article outlines the activity of the Department of Underwater Works Technology of the Polish Naval Academy of Gdynia. This is the second part of the material aimed at presenting research and educational activity of this organisational unit. The first part provided a brief historical background related to the foundation of the department, as well as the main elements of its research infrastructure. For over 30 years the department has been engaged in a broad spectrum research related to underwater works technologies and to date it is the only research unit of this type which offers complex solutions to the related issues.

The article deals with the subject matter related to the development of underwater works technologies. Nearly 15 years ago one of the authors of this study published a material in the monthly magazine of "Podwodny Świat" (The Underwater World) entitled "The Future of Underwater Technologies – the diver or the robot?" where he noted that the time of great changes in technologies aimed at researching the depths and conducting works under water has arrived. This new era mainly consists in the fact that on an increasing number of occasions the diver is replaced by an underwater robot. The presented material constitutes an attempt to provide an answer to the question whether the then posed thesis is still valid. In the article the authors discuss issues concerned with the development of techniques and technologies applied in the conquest of depths that leads them to the conclusion that the previously observed tendency of a double-tracked development of underwater technologies is gaining in strength, which causes that the works and exploration of bodies of water at great depths will be possible only with the use of unmanned techniques.

A ship’s wind energy utilization device with multi-mode arc-shaped sails is designed, which have different working modes for sail-assisting or wind power generation according to the ship’s navigation. The structural characteristics and working principles of this device are firstly described in this paper. Three sets of arc-shaped sails with different thickness (4.5 cm, 11.3 cm, 21.7 cm) were designed. Wind tunnel experiments were carried out in the respects of sail-assisting performance and wind-power generation to determine the best sail blade shape and to verify the energy-saving effect of this device. Experiments show that the sail with the smallest thickness (4.5 cm) has a better boosting effect than others, and the sail with the largest thickness (21.7 cm) has the best wind power generation performance. Considering the lateral force and the structural strength of the support, in the case of the comprehensive evaluation for the boosting and power generation performance, it is considered that the intermediate thickness (11.3 cm) is the best choice. The device has a good comprehensive energy utilization effect and has development and application value.
