Chosen aspects of a simulator supporting the distribution of the primary teaching subsidy in a fac-ulty of Wroclaw University of Technology have been presented. The mathematical equations forming the basis for the algorithm have been analyzed. The general premises of adapting the set of teaching duties within a faculty to this model have been formulated. Various scenarios illustrating how the dis-tribution of this subsidy works in practice have been shown. Introductory results of such simulations (using MS EXCEL) for a chosen scenario have been presented and discussed.

More often projects of railway investments should be confirmed by a computer simulation modelling. Developers need a tool to model a railway system before it will be implemented. A tool to create a simulation model of a suburban line – characterised by a high intensity of trains and very short track circuits – is presented in the paper. It concerns roles of trains moving, and enables analysing effects of disturbances on the line.

Safety in the road traffic is largely dependent on the physical and mental condition of the driver. Current research as well as the analyses conducted on certain phenomena-psycho-physiological efficiency of drivers, their skills, the influence of extrinsic factors on drivers, the technical parameters of vehicles and finally the distracting power of the environment - all prove that it is achievable to minimize risk in the road traffic. There are various testing techniques, some of them are directed at the driver (eye tracking, heart rate and breath gauging or neuro-imaging), other techniques test the on-board car systems and still others test the visual and radar monitoring of the environment outside the vehicle. All of these techniques, for one thing enable tracing the driver’s actions and for another, provide information about the processes which affect the driving person. It should be noted that, owing to the above mentioned study, new knowledge is being developed. Both the research conducted with modern equipment, such as the systems of visual and radar analysis of the driver’s surrounding area, and the systems which gauge psychophysical condition of the person, even if they might not ensure our totally comprehensive grasp of the safety processes in transport, yet they provide new and valuable information which is expected to facilitate our understanding of the role and influence of psychophysical processes in a driver on safety in the road traffic. Data collected with such methods will enhance our knowledge with details that have been unknown so far. Besides, the methods will let us perceive the phenomena which may, for that matter, serve to verify current theories or even lay the foundations for totally innovative knowledge that may help to analyse the influence of the driver’s psychophysical condition on the road traffic safety. What is more, the resultant knowledge may be further employed to work out effective tools for aiding safety to different means of transport in motion. The development of tools and methods which are supposed to enhance and ensure safety in the road transport is the clue issue being tackled by both domestic institutions and the European Union. For a few years now, safety in the road traffic in developed countries has been one of the essential issues regularly discussed and studied. The aim of this article is to present both the testing methods as well as the role of psychophysical condition of the driver on safety in the road traffic.

The aim of this study was to analyse the driver behaviour in simple and complex car-following situations under day- and night-time lighting conditions (four scenarios). Nearly 70 drivers participated in the tests, each taking several trials, during which they were exposed to randomly selected situations. The tests involved driving along a two-lane motorway with a vehicle in front and responding to its sudden braking. Different distances between the vehicles were simulated. The scenarios varied in complexity ranging from none to some vehicles around the subject vehicle. The study involved measuring different reaction times, i.e. the time to release the accelerator pedal, the time to apply the brake pedal and the time to start steering, to find out how the particular emergency manoeuvres contribute to the occurrence of collisions in the four scenarios. The results show that both the complexity of a road situation as well as the lighting conditions determine the type of emergency manoeuvre undertaken and the time of the driver reaction.

The paper presents a simulation model of the radio frequency MIMO-OFDM system. The simulation model was made in Matlab Simulink environment. It contains the transmitter, the receiver and the telecommunication channel models. The telecommunication channel model consists of models used during development of technical documentation of IEEE 802.11n. Signals generated at the transmitter output are fully compatible with signals described in IEEE 802.11n [1]. Simulations are conducted on a radio frequency, so they can be compared with results of measurements of real systems.

The article describes the characteristics of the spatial disorientation simulator constructed for the Polish Air Force Academy aviation training. Using the spatial disorientation simulator enables safe training for military pilots, as it simulates visual illusions and spatial disorientation. The simulator makes it possible to train pilots in spatial disorientation conditions for every possible type of aircraft, through designing and conducting the proper aircraft cabin models. Spatial disorientation training has to main aims. The first one is familiarizing the pilots with spatial disorientation phenomenon, and providing them with essential knowledge and abilities through theoretical and practical acquaintance with physiological limitations. Such limitations are related to the impact of different aviation environmental aspects on the human body. The second aim of the training is increasing the efficiency of aviation training, in relation to recognizing, analyzing and proper reacting to real and simulated occurrences, which lead to spatial disorientation. The author describes main stages of the training conducted during the spatial disorientation course. The article categorizes major features of different spatial confusion types and characterizes types of air illusions.

The paper presents an inverse kinematic model for a centrifuge motion simulator used to verify newly defined absolute acceleration profiles. The modelling is concerned with a human training centrifuge with three degrees of freedom. The values of kinematic parameters have been obtained for this three-jointed manipulator. Validation of the developed model has been performed by comparing the results obtained from the centrifuge motion simulator with the results of numerical simulations. The simulation revealed that the inverse kinematic model enabled calculation of the angular displacement, velocity and acceleration of the links that are needed for the given linear acceleration of the simulator cabin.

In the paper a conception of the Design System for selected electronic circuits, using the artificial neural feed-forward and recurrent networks, was presented. The design calculations of the selected examples of the electronic circuits were presented together with the processes of optimization of the designed systems. The MATLAB software package with the Neural Networks Toolbox was used as the design environment for testing algorithms based on the artificial neural networks as well as for the verification of statistical analyses (e.g. minimization of variance of the amplitude characteristics). NNSv.! simulator, designed in MATLAB (GUI), and a selected active filter circuit were used as the examples of the application of the ANN to the Intelligent Design System (with the multi-parameter sensitivity function as the goal function). The benefits, resulting from the application of the simulator and artificial neural networks, were shown with relation to the other methods of optimization. The comparative tests for different uses of the feed-forward and recurrent neural networks were also presented.

The introduction of a simulator of Police actions in crisis situations to police training of command skills made it necessary to know the ongoing relationship between training on the simulator and the actual actions of the Police. Visualisation of the effects of decisions taken by commanders in a virtual simulation environment, ending in most cases in the escalation of the threat, trigger off analytic mechanisms and awareness of responsibility for the life and health of people and the officers carrying out commands issued by commanders and other persons taking part in the simulation. Simulation training provides the opportunity to observe the ongoing relationship between cells of the command structure adopted by commanders, depicting among others, the sources of errors and threats of destabilisation of commanding process. There are various scenarios that are possible to play including elements such as: police riot, crowd aggression level, and weather conditions. Based on the feedback from simulation training participants, who are mostly those responsible for commanding processes while performing daily duties, it is reasonable to say that the training conducted on the Police simulator in crisis situations allows the commanding skills and abilities to be significantly shaped. What is more, as the simulator is a universal tool, it enables cooperation training to be conducted with non-police entities, the fire brigade, medical emergency, city guard, and crisis management teams.

This article outlines the results of studies concerning supporting the decision-making process in air defense with the use of state-of-the art computer simulator. The simulator is intended to simulate air force operations and air defense in the air, and the simulated facilities are supposed to reflect real and hypothetical facilities. It allows us to conduct experiments with the use of models showing particular fragments of reality, which reduce information entropy characteristic of contemporary decision-making situations in air defense.
