Dialog na temat przyszłości wymaga z jednej strony celów i wizji a z drugiej kryteriów, wskaźników i odpowiednich procedur. Pojęcie "Sustainability" daje tu stosowne wyobrażenie celów: w obliczu rozdźwięku pomiędzy sposobem życia części ludzkości bazującym na ogromnej eksploatacji i obciążeniu przyrody a wymogami zapewnienia warunków rozwoju przyszłych pokoleń potrzebne są koncepcje, które mogą wspierać działania tak indywidualne jak i społeczne zorientowane na "zdolność do przyszłości". W debacie o środkach, które są potrzebne do osiągnięcia tego celu nie można pominąć namysłu nad odpowiednią techniką. Należy zadać pytanie, jak kształtować technikę aby był możliwy zrównoważony rozwój czy też jego wsparcie oraz jak można oceniać, czy użycie techniki w konkretnym przypadku prowadzi do zrównoważonego rozwoju. W ten sposób nasuwają się problemy wiedzy, oceny i praktycznego zastosowania zrównoważonego rozwoju. W odniesieniu do wiedzy i oceny może być pomocna ocena skutków techniki. Wykorzystanie efektów jej działania wiąże się jednakże często z problemami (a mianowicie w postaci dylematów dotyczących prognoz i interdyscyplinarności). W artykule poruszane są kwestie związane z hasłami "zrównoważony rozwój", "technika" i "ocena skutków techniki".

Dialogue about the future requires goals and visions on one hand and criteria, indicators and relevant procedures on the other. The term ,,sustainability" provides an adequate idea of the goals: facing the discrepancy between the life style of some part of the population based on an immense exploitation and burdening the nature and the requirements to ensure the conditions for development to the future generations, concepts are needed to support both: individual and public actions aimed at the "capability for the future". In the discussion on the measures necessary to accomplish this goal, consideration of a relevant technique cannot be avoided. A question should be raised: how should technique develop to ensure or support sustainable development and how it could be assessed whether applying technique in a specific case really leads to sustainable development. Here the issues of knowledge, assessment and a practical application of sustainable development appear. Technique effects assessment may find application in reference to knowledge and assessment. The use of the technique application effects is frequently related with some problems (i.e. in the form of dilemmas concerning forecasting and interdisciplinarity). The article discusses the issues related to the key words such as ,,sustainable development", ,,technique" and "technique effects assessment".

The paper presents different types of brick bonds in the masonry constructions as well as different techniques of spreading mortar during the masonry work. The specification of the types of brick bonds and the techniques of spreading mortar (which are often no longer used nowadays) during erection of brick walls might be useful in identification of the old masonry constructions.

Content available remote Lower Extremity Muscle Activity During a Women's Overhand Lacrosse Shot

The purpose of this study was to describe lower extremity muscle activity during the lacrosse shot. Participants (n=5 females, age 22±2 years, body height 162.6±15.2 cm, body mass 63.7±23.6 kg) were free from injury and had at least one year of lacrosse experience. The lead leg was instrumented with electromyography (EMG) leads to measure muscle activity of the rectus femoris (RF), biceps femoris (BF), tibialis anterior (TA), and medial gastrocnemius (GA). Participants completed five trials of a warm-up speed shot (Slow) and a game speed shot (Fast). Video analysis was used to identify the discrete events defining specific movement phases. Full-wave rectified data were averaged per muscle per phase (Crank Back Minor, Crank Back Major, Stick Acceleration, Stick Deceleration). Average EMG per muscle was analyzed using a 4 (Phase) x 2 (Speed) ANOVA. BF was greater during Fast vs. Slow for all phases (p<0.05), while TA was not influenced by either Phase or Speed (p>0.05). RF and GA were each influenced by the interaction of Phase and Speed (p<0.05) with GA being greater during Fast vs. Slow shots during all phases and RF greater during Crank Back Minor and Major as well as Stick Deceleration (p<0.05) but only tended to be greater during Stick Acceleration (p=0.076) for Fast vs. Slow. The greater muscle activity (BF, RF, GA) during Fast vs. Slow shots may have been related to a faster approach speed and/or need to create a stiff lower extremity to allow for faster upper extremity movements.

Pancreatoduodenectomy has almost a hundred years of history. After resection, the pancreatic stump requires an anastomosis with the digestive tract. There is ongoing discussion about the optimal standard of digestive tract reconstruction. Two major groups of pancreatic anastomosis are used: pancreatogastrostomy and pancreatojejunostomy, but after some randomized and several other documented series there is no agreement on the superiority one over another method.The important feature related to pancreatic anastomosis' complication rate is the number of procedures performed each year in a facility.This manuscript summarizes the experience of the Gdansk Surgical Department with pancreatogastrostomy.

Background: The aim of our research was to determine the contest effectiveness of Japanese judo competitors and to state the quantitative an qualitative indices of the tactical-technical preparation (PTT). The values of these indices may be used for controlling the process of special preparation.Material/Methods: Medal classification of the national teams from all Olympic Games and World Championships, and contest effectiveness of the national teams during 2007-2010 were determined. The analysis of PTT indices of 16 Japanese competitors was carried out. They fought 78 contests during the World Championships 2010. Predominant techniques were described. The selected indices have been assessed.Results: Japanese competitors prevailed over their opponents in the men's group during the Olympic Games and the World Championships. After changing sport rules in judo, they overcame their poor performance within 2007-2009, and they have become leaders in world's judo. Japanese competitors are highly effective in leg throws, especially in such throws as: uchimata, osoto gari, and kouchi gari as well as seoi nage (although this throw is a hand technique). They executed throws forwards and mainly by means of pivot. Japanese competitors had a positive value of activity indices and high indices of defense.Conclusions: Sport results achieved by Japanese judo competitors prove their high contest performance and the dominating position in judo competitions. Among their dominating techniques, we can see leg techniques performed by pivoting and breaking balance forwards on toes. They are also effective in executing grappling techniques such as holdings (immobilizations) for example. During the World Championships in 2010 Japanese competitors were characterized by a positive value of activity indices and high indices of defence.

Background: Symmetry of movement actions in sport is considered as an element of versatility which enlarges an individual’s technical and tactical capacity. Asymmetry usually limits this capacity and may also lead to overstrains of one side of the body and cause an injury. The research is done on health aspects and practical improvement in sport contest. Up-to-date research on judo contest effectiveness has been aimed at the ability of throwing into various directions. There is no material and data as compared to the directions of throwing and effective directions of the opponent’s attack. The purpose of this research was to find relationships between the directions of the executed throws and the side of competitors’ bodies used while throwing. Material/Methods: Within 2005-2010 1,968 judo contests were recorded by means of a graphic method of recording of a judo contest during 587 domestic and international judo competitions. 12 competitors (6 men and 6 women) were subject to our observations. The effectiveness of throws performed into 4 directions and of the used body side was determined on the grounds of the average number of points won or lost during a contest. Results: The effectiveness of judo throws performed to the left direction or by using the left side of the body is similar or higher to those performed to the other side. There is a relationship between the dominant part of the body while throwing and the directions of throwing, and the defense efficiency in relation to the directions and ways of executing throws by opponents. Conclusions: The effectiveness of the left attack directions and using the left side of the body may result from the training practice. It seems rational to find reasons for such high effectiveness of the

Scattered information about cordwood masonry was gathered from different sources such as books, professional articles, popular articles and websites. Historical cordwood masonry construction techniques and newer cordwood masonry construction techniques were included. Current teachings of ecological construction practices were added, and private and professional individuals’ knowledge. Three main cordwood wall types were evaluated and the wall type - single log with centered insulation space - was found to be optimal. Spruce (Picea abies) was identified as the best suited tree species in Norway. Mixing of clay based mortar was explained. Load bearing can be done with post framework, or the cordwood walls themselves can be load bearing. Solutions for stabilising corners were found. It is optional to clad the house or leave it unclad. Momentums for future scientific research were pointed out, such as finding thermal transmittance U (W/m2K) for woods and mortars, and understanding humidity transportation efficiency in different types of wood with/without cladding. Unanswered questions were set forth. This is a pre-scientific literature study.

Anticipating the inevitable shift of coach education and Coach Certification Programs (CCP) to distance-learning platforms in the imminent future, I have attempted to identify obstacles that we are likely to face. After explaining the rationale and the potential benefits of such courses, I have identified technique as the most difficult component to both teach and evaluate. A specific viewpoint regarding technique is briefly discussed and several related guidelines are provided to assist in both teaching (coach education) and evaluating technique (CCP) within the context of distance education.

It can only control its internal operations. It is the eternal return of the identical. Hence, a general feeling of social disorientation and anxiety. Moreover, in a nuclear age such as ours, there is no guarantee of survival for mankind. From a diachronic historical process, we are in a synchronic one. All cultures are to be considered at the same level. The only way out is dialogue, intercultural relations, based on a concept of «cultural co-tradition».

In this research the removal of sesame oil from aritifical water by Fenton process technique was investigated. The results of removal efficiency were compared with actual wastewater. Effect of time, pH, mixing speed, temperature, oil content were investigated to find the perfect circumstances. The conducted experiments revealed that the optimal conditions for this process were 160 minutes of reaction time in an acidic medium where pH was equal to 3.5, temperature was discovered to be 25 °C, the optimal mixing speed was at 500 rpm, and the Sesame oil concentration amounted to 1500 mg/l. Applying the optimal conditions for this processing, the results of compersion showed the sesame oil had a removal efficiency of 95% for the artificial wastewater in which the concentration decreased from 12800 to 68 mg/l, while the Fenton method was used to treat an actual sample of wastewater the removal efficiency is found to be 87%.

There has been a lot of research that enabled soccer to improve: its technique, tactics and strategy through analysis and training. Nevertheless, players’ need to interact with each other turns any defending or attacking situation into complex solutions with a wide range of variables to be considered, in which the player is never isolated and must make the move that has the most positive impact on play. Fifty-four sided games played in three different formats (5v5, 7v7 and 9v9) and with two age groups (U9 and U14) were filmed at three soccer clubs in Spain in order to identify the most relevant attacking moves, from a technical and tactical perspective. This study used the observational method; it is descriptive and is applied through well-prepared systematic quantitative observation in a natural environment. A key part of the method involved viewing the match recordings and logging moves that had been categorised beforehand. Cohen’s Kappa analysis showed that the results for the most representative variables presented a substantial degree of concordance (0.61-0.80). The results show that there were significant variations depending on the game format, and the following study will present a description and analysis of the aspects that had considerable influence on attacking moves in different formats of sided games (5v5, 7v7 and 9v9). The study also presents various practical applications for the area of training and analysing both youth and professional soccer.

Nowadays the underwater gliding after the starts and the turns plays a major role in the overall swimming performance. Hence, minimizing hydrodynamic drag during the underwater phases should be a main aim during swimming. Indeed, there are several postures that swimmers can assume during the underwater gliding, although experimental results were not conclusive concerning the best body position to accomplish this aim. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyse the effect in hydrodynamic drag forces of using different body positions during gliding through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methodology. For this purpose, two-dimensional models of the human body in steady flow conditions were studied. Two-dimensional virtual models had been created: (i) a prone position with the arms extended at the front of the body; (ii) a prone position with the arms placed alongside the trunk; (iii) a lateral position with the arms extended at the front and; (iv) a dorsal position with the arms extended at the front. The drag forces were computed between speeds of 1.6 m/s and 2 m/s in a two-dimensional Fluent® analysis. The positions with the arms extended at the front presented lower drag values than the position with the arms aside the trunk. The lateral position was the one in which the drag was lower and seems to be the one that should be adopted during the gliding after starts and turns.

Przy tym wszystkim unowocześnianie produkcji musi być efektywne ekonomicznie, czyli wzrost wartości uzyskanych produktów musi co najmniej pokrywać wzrost nakładów na wdrożenie postępu.

The operational technique for the major components of the fighter aircraft engine rotors has been introduced basing on the real conditions of their cyclic loading in each flight or ground test and a priori information on their previous operation. It has been confirmed that the obtained technical solutions not only conform to the current methods of accounting for the depletion of the life cycle of the Afterburning Turbofan Engine (ATE) but also introduce additional opportunities to consider individual characteristics and conditions of their cyclic loading throughout the overall operating time. A method for estimating the depletion of the life cycle in accordance with the Total Accumulated Cycle (TAC) has been proposed. It allows us to compare the actual operating time of the ATE in hours and the accumulated value of cyclic damage to the engine and its major components (within the TAC parameter) during the previous operation.
