Different ways of segmentation for cloud images have been developed. The time complexity of these algorithms become vital for implementation. Implementation of Otsu's method of thresholding for segmentation purpose take reasonable computational time for multiple class problem. In this paper, a fractal based segmentation method is developed. The technique is compared to modified version of Otsu's algorithm with reduced time complexity. The time complexity of the fractal based method is favourable and the results of segmentation are also comparable.

This paper presents experiments on Polish scripts recognition by a method based on projection method fused with Toeplitz matrix approach. A new approach in segmentation of letters is presented. The essential part of this work is based on modification of known segmentation methods. The observations have allowed us to create a new criterion for word segmentation. Projection approach (which has been earlier used to identify Arabic and Latin signs and gives good results) is used to identify Polish letters. Toeplitz approach is also applied to allow preparing data for further processing and analysis. Samples of typewritten and handwritten words were segmented and identified in order to validate the approach. The obtained results are satisfying and encourage further periments.

Pre-processing of mammograms is a crucial step in computer-aided analysis systems. The aim of segmentation is to extract a breast region by estimation of a breast skin-line and a pectoral muscle as well as removing radiographic artifacts and the background of the mammogram. Knowledge of the breast contour also allows further analysis of breast abnormalities such as bilateral asymmetry. In this paper we propose a fully automatic algorithm for segmentation of a breast region, based on two types of global image thresholding: the multi-level Otsu and minimizing the measure of fuzziness as well as the gradient estimation and linear regression. The results of our experiments showed that our method can be used to nd a breast line and a pectoral muscle accurately.

This study aims to investigate crop selection and spatial patterns of agricultural fields in a drought-affected region in Isfahan Province, central Iran. Based on field surveys portraying growth stages of the main crops including wheat, alfalfa, vegetables and fruit trees, three Landsat 8 operational land imager (OLI) images were acquired on March 15 (L1), June 27 (L2) and October 1 (L3), 2015. After performing radiometric and atmospheric corrections, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) maps of the images were produced and introduced to the Multi-Resolution Segmentation algorithm to delineate agricultural fields. An NDVI-based decision algorithm was then developed to identify crops devoted to each field. Finally, a set of landscape metrics including Number of Patches (NP), mean patch size (MPS), mean shape index (MSI), perimeter-to-area ratio (PARA) and Euclidian Nearest Neighborhood Distance (ENN) was utilized to evaluate their respective spatial formation. The results showed that nearly 46% of fields are devoted to wheat indicating that the landscape has been dramatically shifted towards wheat monoculture farming. Moreover, the farmers’ inclination to grow crops in large fields (approximate area of 1 ha) with more regular geometric shapes are considered as an effective way of optimising water use efficiency in areas experiencing significant water shortage.

Every organization which offers products or services wishes to communicate with their customers in the most effective way. This kind of communication is based on proper selection of target groups which are identified in the process of market segmentation. Therefore, it is very important to ask the question to whom the message is to be directed and what kind of a message we want to convey. This article describes the selection criteria for target groups in the Centre of Competence for Novel Infrastructure of Workable Applications (C2NIWA) which is organized in the structures of the Gdansk University of Technology. It is a place that provides advanced IT platforms for the production of various types of applications. C2NIWA users have access to the most current knowledge in this field, advisory services, and tools to collaborate on IT projects. They needed to be divided into target groups and the communication methods were adapted to their specifics. The result of this process is the establishment of appropriate associations with the brand. The article presents the results of a short research showing what kind of associations were successfully built in one of the target groups by using a system of visual identification – the logo of the C2NIWA.

Recognition of objects in pictures and movies requires the use of techniques, such as filtering, segmentation and classification. Image filtering is required to remove all artifacts that hinder the unequivocal identification and sharpen interesting objects. Segmentation refers to finding areas of images respected to individual objects. For the selected areas corresponding to objects in the selected picture, the classification of objects finally gives information about the type of object which orientation is made. This paper presents a method for the classification of objects from drawings as a bitmap using the method of fundamental solutions (MFS). The MFS was tested on the selected bitmap depicting simple geometric shapes. The correlations between errors occurring on the boundary for particular shapes are used for the selection of geometric shape figures. Due to this correlation, it is possible to recognize the shape of the image appearing on the drawing by an analysis consisting of the comparison of recognized points describing the shape of contour to a database containing solutions of boundary value problems for the selected shape. In one way, the comparison of the pattern can determine which shape from database it is most similar to in terms of contour. This article appear that this approach is very simple and clearly. In result, this method can be used to recognition of the objects in the systems of real-time processing.

The paper demonstrates a new approach to video segmentation which retains some of the attractive features of existing methods and overcomes some of their limitations. The video sequence is represented as a spatio-temporal volume, and is segmented by an extension of active contour model based on Mumford-Shah techniques. The energy function minimization is similar to 3D interface evolution with curvature-dependent speeds. The spatio-temporal volume need not to be smoothed before processing because our method is not sensitive to noise. Each object needs a closed interface, which is embedded as a level set of a higher-dimensional functions, and is propagated by solving a partial differential equation. The interface stops in the vicinity of object boundaries, which are not necessarily defined by the gradient and can be represented with complex topologies. Finally, an experiment is given to show the effectiveness and robustness of the method.

In this paper a novel segmentation system for football player detection in broadcasted video is presented. Proposed detection system is a complex solution incorporating a dominant color based segmentation technique of a football playfield, a 3D playfield modeling algorithm based on Hough transform and a dedicated algorithm for player tracking, player detection system based on the combination of Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) descriptors with Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and linear Support Vector Machine (SVM) classification. For the shot classification the several classification technique SVM, artificial neural network and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) are used. Evaluation of the system is carried out using HD (1280×720) resolution test material. Additionally, performance of the proposed system is tested with different lighting conditions (including non-uniform pith lightning and multiple player shadows) and various camera positions. Experimental results presented in this paper show that combination of these techniques seems to be a promising solution for locating and segmenting objects in a broadcasted video.

In this article we present new proposition of video compression based on a hybrid codec with segmentation. We proposed video segmentation algorithm based on block matching algorithm and Marcov Random Fields. This system works in two steps. In the first step motion vectors will be calculated. In the next step motion vector will be used in segmentation process. The second stage is an image classification based on motion vector and intensity function as well as compression with different rates of all segmentation regions from image. In this work we can also find influence of different macroblocks shape for: estimation vector field, segmentation process and compression rate.

The paper has employed a three-factor model of constraints, which differentiates intrapersonal, interpersonal and structural. The study was carried out on a sample of N = 981 adult residents of Poland. The three most common barriers constraining attendance at attractions were identified: availability, high entrance fees and lack of time. The constraints were found to be related to a number of socio-demographic characteristics, such as gender, age, education, size of place of residence and household income per capita. Three market segments limited by similar constraints and showing similar attraction attendance behaviour were identified with their socio-demographic characteristics.

Detecting defects in adhesively bonded joints, using active thermography methods is very promising NDT testing method. In many cases, tests are made with agreed conditions, where a test object is always in specific place of IR camera view. Although, for needs of industry, system should be able to adjust Region of Interest in order to prevailing conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to develop appropriate method for this task. The paper describe one of the easiest attempt to separate foreground of an IR image sequence acquired by Lock-In Thermography (LT) and Pulse Thermography (PT). Proposed approach is based on segmentation and morphological operations. The IR image sequences of 11 various samples were used for this task. Obtained results show that elaborated technique of foreground object extraction is possible.

In the paper three methods of an automated segmentation of kanji graphs are described. The first two of them yield divisions at the levelclose to the traditional components of kanji graphs. But a too large number of kanji graphs which do not lend themselves to devision makes one assign to these methods an auxiliary role in the system under construction. The third method divides a kanji graph into segments which approximately correspond to fragments of traditional strokes. Hance almost every kanji graph lends itself to division into segments, and the description thus obtained can be used for their recognition by GedNLC grammars (R. Tadeusiewicz, M. Flasiński, [7]).

The paper presents a new technique of segmentating digital contours using multiple segmentation primitives. Therefore segmentation results are a combination of line segments, arcs. corners, etc., depending on how well these shapesmath the orginal contour. In yhr first step, the prospective instances of all avaible segmentation primitives are detected within the input digital contours. Then, the detected instances are ranked according to how accurately they fit the corresponding fragment of the contour. Finally, the top-rank segmantation primitives are selected one by one until the whole contour is approximeted. The algorithms has relatively low computational complexity, and it allows paraqllel implementation. Moreover, the algorithm is not sensitive to the performance of edge detectors so that similar results are produced no matter what edge detector has extracted contours from the original image. Therefore, if the quality of camera-captured images is satisfactofily high, the algorithm can analyse them whitout any pre- processing required (except, of course, edge detection).

EN
Behavioral segmentation is a process of finding the groups of clients with similar behavioral patterns. The basic tool for segmentation is a clustering algorithm. However, the clusters generated by the algorithm depend on the preprocessing steps as well as parameters of the algorithm. Therefore, there are many possibilities of dividing the clients into segments and it is a subjective process. In this paper we will focus on application on multicriteria analysis for selecting the best partition of clients into segments.
