Resilience of any area in question is linked with its structure, which is being built and rebuilt over the years. For instance, Košice city reinforces for most sector of Information, communication and as well its sector of Art, entertainment and recreation. After implementing strategy of reinforcement the city can be better up to the task to cope with shocks. Similarly other areas, this paper was trying to shed light on this topic by implementing methodology of localization quotient and using data for seven cities in Eastern Slovak Republic. The analysis provides comparison in structure and resilience potential of cities in terms of employment.

We present a case of a patient suffering from severe acute pancreatitis who underwent double treatment with recombinant human activated protein C. The first administration occurred while the patient was in shock secondary to severe acute pancreatitis (not complicated by pancreatic necrosis bacterial contamination). The second administration occurred while the patient was in septic shock secondary to an iatrogenic complication, which developed in convalescent period.

Aortic aneurysms, especially when ruputured, constitute a direct life threat. Mortality in emergency surgical procedures has been estimated at 50 to 90%. In the recent years great advances have been achieved in the form of endovascular techniques, which offer effective treatment and are associated with a lower risk of complications and death.The aim of the study was to evaluate endovascular treatment in patients with hypovolaemic shock due to aortic rupture in the infrarenal segment.Material and methods. 19 patients with ruptured aortic aneurysms were treated by stentgraft implantation in our department from 2001 to 2006. Bifurcated stentgrafts were used in 6, while aortouniiliac stentgrafts were used in the remaining 13 with consecutive femoro-femoral by-pass grafting.Results. Good results were obtained in 14 (73.7%) patients operated on while in hypovolaemic shock caused by aortic aneurysm rupture.5 patients died in the perioperative period (26.3%). The deaths were caused by shock and multiple organ failure.Conclusions. 1. Advances in vascular surgery offer an effective treatment for patients in hypovolaemic shock due to abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture. 2. New treatment modalities do not lift the surgeon's responsibility to manage shock, which remains the main cause of death in patients with ruptured aortic aneurysms. 3. If the technical conditions for stentgraft implantation are met, endovascular procedures should be the method of choice in cases of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm.

The author of the article tries to reconstruct both the way of perceiving subjectivity in the works of Walter Benjamin and the ways in which the tension between identity and history is manifested in his writings. The article concentrates on the concept of shock, developed by the philosopher during reading Baudelaire and Kafka. With this concept, it is possible to describe the transition from the narrative conception of experience to “point experience” constituted by series of sudden unconnected impulses. The moment conducing to this transition was the I World War which for Benjamin – as well as for others significant thinkers of that time – constituted an important turning point.

In this article a passive system, which exploits the properties of the Coulomb friction and leads to high affordability of controlling shocks and vibrations by means of cheap devices is presented. The friction force developed by the proposed device is dependent on the motion stroke by convenient modulation of contact force between the elements of friction coupling. For providing the system self-centring properties or necessary vertical load capacity, coil springs can be incorporated into the device structure. The device hysteresis characteristic can be simply adjusted to comply with requirements of the considered application. A general mathematical model of device dynamic behaviour is developed and applied to shock and vibration isolation systems. The article presents a novel passive device with variable friction which hysteresis force-displacement characteristics have “butterfly” shape, achieved by appropriate design of friction coupling. This shape of hysteresis loops can mitigate the drawbacks of constant friction devices. The schematic of mechanical systems to analyse the dynamic behaviour of shock and vibration isolation systems with variable friction device are shown.

This paper analyzes the effects of fiscal and monetary policies on inflation rate in Indonesia. This research uses the error correction model for estimating the empirical model of inflation rate for annual data 1970-2017. The results present the significant effects of fiscal and monetary variables on the inflation rate. These findings reveal the inflationary effects of fiscal and monetary policies in the country. This research also finds the impact of output and exchange rate on inflation rate. Therefore, this paper supports the theory of demand-pull inflation as well as the proposition of imported inflation. The other uniqueness of this research is the inclusion of shock variables in the empirical model. This study asserts the significant role of inflation shock and unanticipated exchange rate on the domestic price level. It implies that domestic inflation is closely related to the international financial sector.

The paper focuses on the problem of the defi nition of regional and urban resilience, how to measure them, and how to evaluate the signifi cance of these categories in the regional studies. The analysis was carried out taking into account the structural and functional conditions of the regions and cities. In this article the author discusses the conditions and factors facilitating the strengthening of the adaptability of the regional economy and urban, with regard to the principles of evolutionary economic geography. The aim of the paper is to present the possibilities of application of the concept of regional and urban resilience to recent analyzes of regional development, with particular emphasis on evolutionary approach. The author applied the descriptive method and the comparative method. The analyzes are based on literature studies. Individualized study of social, economic and spatial structures of various spatial units, taking into account their resilience, can provide valuable information on the processes of adaptation of regions and cities and thus favorable conditions for their resistance, recovery, re-orientation and renewal.

Prowadzona przez kopalnię „Ziemowit" eksploatacja pokładu 209 w bloku D generuje aktywność sejsmiczną, która okresowo jest wysoka (rejestrowane wstrząsy o energii rzędu 104J, 105 J), szczególnie podczas przechodzenia ścian w rejonach eksploatacji w pokładach nadległych, tj. 207, 206/1 i 205/4 odległych odpowiednio o około 110, 220 i 280 m od pokładu 209. Do analizy wybrano okres od 3 do 30 stycznia 2013 r. Określano możliwości stosowania metody tomografii pasywnej do identyfikacji stref potencjalnego zagrożenia sejsmicznego oraz śledzenia zmian pola prędkości wraz z przesuwającym się frontem wydobywczym w dwutygodniowych oknach czasowych z krokiem jednego tygodnia.

Mining operations conducted by „Ziemowit" mine in seam 209 of block D generates seismic activity, which is periodically high (recorded shock with energy in the range of I04 J, 105 J), especially when the longwalls pass through areas in which mining operations are running in overlying seams, i.e. 207, 206/1 and 205/4 distant respectively by about 110, 220 and 280 m from seam 209. The period from 3 to 30 January 2013 was selected for the analysis. The applicability of the method of passive tomography to identify areas of potential seismic hazard was determined and the tracing of changes in the velocity field together with the advance of exploitation front within an two-week time windows with a one-week step.

Impedancja ciała człowieka stykającego się z urządzeniem elektrycznym może ulegać zmianom pod wpływem różnych czynników zewnętrznych. Szczególnie w warunkach środowiskowych podziemi kopalń istotny staje się wpływ czynników ergonomicznych. W artykule przedstawiono sposób oceny zmian ryzyka porażenia prądem przemiennym w sytuacjach, gdy impedancja ciała człowieka ulega zmniejszeniu w wyniku oddziaływań niekorzystnych warunków zewnętrznych.

Human body impedance while in contact with electrical equipment may be subjected to changes evoked by different external conditions. Under specific environmental conditions prevailing in coal mines the influence of ergonomic factors is essential. The scope of the paper is the manner of assessing the risk of shock from alternating current when human body impedance is reduced due to unfavorable external conditions.

Background: Acute mesenteric ischaemia (AMI) is a catastrophic abdominal emergency characterized by sudden critical interruption to the intestinal blood flow which commonly leads to bowel infarction and death. AMI still has a poor prognosis with an in-hospital mortality rate of 50-69 %. This high mortality rate is related to the delay in diagnosis which is often diffucult and overlooked. Early intervention is crucial and the potential for intestinal viability. Methods: The charts of 140 patients who were hospitalazed with AMI between May 1997 and August 2013 in Ege University Faculty of Medicine, department of general surgery were retrospectively reviewed. Demographical and clinical features of patients determining the best predictors which effect on morbidity and mortality were evaluated by Multiple Logistic Regression analysis by Enter method after adjustment for all possible confounding factors. Results: After Multiple LR analysis by Enter method after adjustment for all possible confounding factors affecting morbidity; shock, exploration and stay in hospital were statistically significant. Age, cardiac comorbidities, ASA scores, the time delay between onset of acute abdominal pain to surgery, the presence of acidosis and shock, the involved organs (small bowel and both), type of surgery and medical treatment and small bowel length under 100 cm were statistically significant on mortality. Conclusion: Risk factors related to mortality and morbidity have been poorly analyzed due to lack of prospective studies and smaller number of patients. Early diagnosis generally depends on clinical awareness and suspicion. Age and time of delay between onset of acute abdominal pain to surgery longer than 24 hours are the most important parameters that predict the mortality for patients presenting with shock and acidosis.

In the article ”The Broker of Pornography and Violence: Lou Reed in Lulu’s World”, Sławomir Kuźnicki analyses the literary and cultural layers of Lulu, the album published by Lou Reed in collaboration with Metallica, based on Frank Wedekind’s two modernist dramas: Earth Spirit (1895) and Pandora’s Box (1904). The rock poet treats the plot of the two plays very loosely and it becomes the means through which he enters the area of disturbing perversion and graphic pornography. This strategy, then, is typical for him: drawing on the primal instincts of human sexuality, he penetrates these experiences that – although frequently marginalized – are the foundations of our culture. Consequently, Reed seems to follow Susan Sontag’s diagnosis according to which the goal of pornographic literature is to disorient and to disturb mental balance. In the case of Lulu, this strategy of cultural disorientation is also implemented via the generic form of the record. This form mainly stems from Reed’s decision to cooperate with Metallica, i.e. a band whose conservative and rather sustainable music stands in contrast to the former artist's transgressive arts. In other words, on many levels it demonstrates Reed’s strategies of crossing the borders between what is commonly accepted and what is rejected because of its non-normative quality. It results in multilayered kinkiness that outreaches the literary frames of the project and makes it possible to view Lulu as a piece of art that is both uncompromising and visionary.

The most dangerous moment in the care of a critically ill patient is their transport. This applies to inter-hospital transport (land and air) as well as intra-hospital transport. The Medical Transport Team is a unit outside the State Emergency Medical Services System that provides inter-hospital transport financed from public funds. A team of staff who can cope perfectly well with unpredictable situations and can quickly respond to the changing condition of the patient should be available to transport them. A person in a life-threatening condition should not be transported by random people. Ideally, this should be the staff caring for the patient because they know the patient and know how to respond to changing clinical conditions. This applies to the in-hospital phase – diagnostics, transfer to the operating theatre, transfer to the ICU. Interhospital transport is performed by external staff who do not know the patient, so an important role is played by the accurate transfer of information about the patient not only by the referring doctor, but also by nursing staff and/or paramedics.

Najniebezpieczniejszym momentem w opiece nad pacjentem w stanie ciężkim jest jego transport. Dotyczy to transportu międzyszpitalnego (droga naziemna i lotnicza) jak i transportu wewnętrzpitalnego. Zespół Transportu Medycznego (ZTM) to jednostka spoza Systemu Państwowego Ratownictwa Medycznego realizująca transport międzyszpitalny, który finansowany jest ze środków publicznych 1. Do transportu pacjenta powinien być dysponowany zespół personelu, który doskonale radzi sobie w sytuacjach nieprzewidywalnych i potrafi szybko reagować na zmieniający się stan pacjenta. Transportu osoby w stanie zagrożenia życia nie powinny dokonywać przypadkowe osoby. Najlepiej, gdyby to był personel opiekujący się pacjentem, ponieważ zna pacjenta i wie, jak zareagować na zmieniający się stan kliniczny. Dotyczy to fazy wewnątrzszpitalnej – diagnostyki, przekazania na blok operacyjny, przekazania na OIT. Transport międzyszpitalny wykonywany jest przez personel z zewnątrz, który nie zna pacjenta, więc dużą rolę odgrywa dokładne przekazanie informacji o pacjencie nie tylko przez lekarza kierującego, ale też przez personel pielęgniarski i/lub ratowników medycznych.

Hard coal mining in Poland is accompanied by the hazard of rockbursts. Over the years, methods of this hazard preventing have been developed. They effectively reduce the frequency of rockbursts occuring or minimize the magnitude of the effects of tremors,. The article characterizes, on the basis of data obtained from mining plants conducting mining works in rockburst hazard, the scope of application of individual methods of active rockburst prevention, taking into account the period of 2017-2021. The analysis of the collected data idicates that despite the availability of many possible methods of combating the rockburst hazard, in the mining practice the vast majority of methods are used aimed at disintegration of the rock environment in the vicinity of endangered excavations with the use of explosives are used. The most commonly used are long-hole destress blastings and shock blastings.

Eksploatacji węgla kamiennego w Polsce towarzyszy zagrożenie tąpaniami. Wypracowane metody profilaktyki tego zagrożenia skutecznie ograniczają częstotliwość występowania tąpnięć i minimalizują skutki wstrząsów. W artykule scharakteryzowano zakres stosowania poszczególnych metod aktywnej profilaktyki tąpaniowej w latach 2017-2021. Analiza zebranych danych wskazuje, że w praktyce górniczej w większości wykorzystywane są metody ukierunkowane na dezintegrację środowiska skalnego w sąsiedztwie zagrożonych wyrobisk za pomocą materiałów wybuchowych (głównie strzelania torpedujące i strzelania wstrząsowe).

Kopalniane obserwacje sejsmologiczne prowadzi się w celu określania stanu zagrożenia wstrząsami i tąpaniami, ale ze względu na liczbę i konfigurację sieci stanowisk sejsmologicznych ocena ta odnosiła się bardziej do rejonów eksploatacji, a nie do poszczególnych wyrobisk czy ścian eksploatacyjnych. Wykorzystując możliwości ścianowego (oddziałowego) systemu obserwacji sejsmologicznej dla rejonu ściany 6 w pokładzie 510, nie tylko poprawiono jakość rejestracji wstrząsów górotworu, ale także stało się możliwe wykorzystywanie do oceny stanu zagrożenia sejsmicznego ścianowej tomografii pasywnej, analizy zmian współczynnika b rozkładu Gutenberga-Richtera, parametru prędkości drgań PPV oraz parametrów źródła sejsmicznego.

Mine seismological observations are carried out to determine the risk of shocks and rock bursts, but because of the number and configuration of the network of seismological stations the assessment referred more to the regions of mining operations, and not to the individual workings or active longwalls. Taking advantage of the longwall (sectional) seismological observation system for the area of longwall 6 in seam 510, not only the quality of registration of rockmass shocks was improved, but also it was made possible to use it for the assessment of the seismic hazard condition of longwall passive tomography, analysis of changes of b coefficient of Gutenberg-Richter distribution of vibration velocity parameter /PPV/ and parameters of a seismic source.

This paper is a preliminary review of main shock deformations in the Morasko meteorite. Three main types of metamorphism structures occur in the investigated material: (i) brittle, (ii) plastic and (iii) thermal. Their interpretation may indicate, that Morasko meteorite reveals several stages of shock, eg.: extraterrestrial collisions and fall on the Earth.

The aim of this study is to propose an experimental approach supported by an analytical analysis for polymer materials under dynamic loading. The experimental technique of Hopkinson split pressure bar is used which allows for high impact velocities. The specimens are subjected to the three-point bending and the efficiency of the experimental technique is proved. During quasi-static and dynamic bending tests, the rupture mode is described and the evolution of the energy and the ultimate stresses as a function of the initial impact velocity is discussed. In addition, the critical impact velocity estimated above an important change in the rupture mode is observed. In order to better describe the physical phenomena encountered during the three-point bending impact, the analysis is supported by a rheological model based on a mass-spring system.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki modelowania numerycznego wpływu obciążeń dynamicznych skał w rejonie wyrobiska korytarzowego, wywołanych wstrząsem górotworu. Ocenę zmian zachodzących w rejonie wyrobiska wykonano przy użyciu anizotropowego modelu ubiquitous joint. Przeprowadzona symulacja komputerowa obejmowała dwa zasadnicze etapy: symulację statyczną – obejmująca ocenę stanu zniszczenia struktury skalnej w rejonie wykonanego wyrobiska korytarzowego oraz symulację dynamiczną – obejmującą analizę dodatkowego obciążenia górotworu otaczającego wyrobisko i jego obudowę w wyniku wystąpienia wstrząsu. Jak wykazały przeprowadzone obliczenia numeryczne wzrost obciążeń wywołany wstrząsem górotworu spowodował istotne zwiększenie zasięgu stref zniszczeń w górotworze oraz deformacje konturu wyrobiska.

The paper presents results of numerical modeling of the effects of dynamic loads in an area of a mine working resulted from a rockmass shock. The assessment of changes affecting the working area has been evaluated with use of an anisotropic ubiquitous joint model. Computer simulation covered two main stages: static simulation, which includes assessment of the destruction state of rock structure in the surroundings of the mine working, and dynamic simulation that includes additional loads of the rockmass, which surrounds the working and its support in the result of the shock. Conducted numerical calculations demonstrated that increased loads resulted from a rockmass shock results in significant increase of destructions in the rockmass and increased deformations of the working profile.

Działalność naukowa Profesora M. T. Hubera obejmowała praktycznie wszystkie dziedziny mechaniki. Pewna część publikacji Profesora Hubera dotyczyła drgań mechanicznych. Wyprowadził on klasyczne równania opisujące układ drgający o jednym i wielu stopniach swobody. Rozpatrywał problemy drganiowe prętów i belek. Zajmował się również drganiami giętymi wałów z ciężkimi masami skupionymi oraz drganiami skrętnymi. Referat przedstawia osiągnięcia Profesora Huberta z zakresu drgań mechanicznych.

Professor Hubert was dealing with all fields of mechanisms. Some part of Professor Huber's research concerned vibrations. He introduced the classic formulation of vibrating systems - having either one or several degrees of freedom. He discussed problems of vibration of rods, transverse and torsional vibrations of shafts with concerned masses and the critical velocity of shafts. He was also interested in practical aspect of technological implementations. The paper presents contribution of Professor Huber to development of mechanical vibrations.
