Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie zagranicznych badań dotyczących problematyki adaptacji i zmiany organizacyjnej, które są jednocześnie osadzone w systemie zamkniętej opieki zdrowotnej (szpitali). Przegląd artykułów objął cztery czasopisma naukowe: Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, z ostatnich 25 lat. Prezentacja wniosków płynących z badań, została zorganizowana wokół kilku istotnych czynników warunkujących zdolności adaptacyjne organizacji: strategii organizacji, roli menedżerów, relacji wewnątrzorganizacyjnych, relacji międzyorganizacyjnych, orientacji ekonomicznej oraz wewnętrznych charakterystyk szpitala.
