Nickel in selected agroecosystems in the Podkarpacie region
Paper presents the results of nickel content determination in sandy and loess soils of the Podkarpacie region. The range of expected concentrations (corresponding to „natural contents" of that element in soil), as calculated from the relationship between geometric average (G) and geometric deviation (SG) according to formula: (G/SG P) - (GF SG P), ranges between 0,90 - 19,6 mg/kg in sandy soils and 8,6 -24,9 mg/kg in loess soils, may be used as a starting point of reference for the evaluation of contamination of soil with nickel in the studied region. Comparison of the actual range (determined) nickel concentrations with the expected range indicates no detectable effect of anthropogenic factors on its level in soils. Nickel content in soils is related to natural soil generation process. This is also confirmed by statistically significant coefficients of simple correlation (r) (at significance level of p = 0,001) obtained for nickel content and the share of soil fractions of dia. < 0,02 mm (r = 0,77) in sandy soils, and (r = 0,49) and loess soils, as well as low, statistically insignificant relationship to the content of organic carbon and reaction.
