The study was inspired by James W. Pennebaker's experiments over the writing asignments. 95 persons were randomly assigned to three groups. The groups differed about the subject of their essays. The level of fear (as a trait and as a state) was measured, as well as the level of depression, of life satisfaction, and the way of coping with stressful situation. Three measures were planned - at the winter exam session, at one month after it and at the summer session. The highest level of positive changes in emotional functioning took place in the control group writing about unimportant things. The lower levels of improvement were found in the cognitive group. The global well-being of psychological adaptation was the lowest in the emotional group. The results may suggest that the attention resources are depleted by writing assignments focused on coping. The lack of perceived possibility of the situation control may have esential importance as well.
