The studies investigated the effect of tunnel memory for negative stimuli and refer to attentional vigilance for faces with emotional expression ('face in the crowd' effect). The individuals watched set of nine different faces pictures (displayed in 3x3 arrangement). Eight neutral faces lied on boundaries of the set and center one expressed positive, negative or neutral facial display. The recognition level of single face was later tested. Results of experiment 1 showed that negative face possibly capture the resources, what is exhibited as lower recognition of boundary faces from the set. In experiment 2 subjects exhibited improved memory for central, negative stimuli and poorer memory for peripheral, non-emotional stimuli from the set. The results of both experiments proved 'tunnel memory effect' described as improved memory for central, negative stimuli and poorer memory for peripheral, non-emotional stimuli. The evidence of attentional bias underlying 'tunnel memory effect' was found.
