The purpose of this article is to examine how two Slavonic cultures enter the discourse with the same literary work, and to see the differences between the Polish and Bulgarian reading of Dostoyevsky's 'The Possessed'. The methodology is based on numerous convergences of Mikhail Bakhtin's works and hermeneutics of translation, understood as a particular intercourse with the text. Following Bakhtin's philosophy, the author distinguishes two types of treating the original text in translation process: synchronic (homophonic) and diachronic (polyphonic).
