The article presented is an introductory analysis of data dealing with the given names of the youngest inhabitants of Poznan, born after 1 January 2000. The main purpose is to indicate general tendencies regarding the frequency of given names, with particular attention to 2004. The authoresses answer questions on the names given most often (both as first names and second names) as well as on changes of first names that took place in 2004. They also indicate the crucial problem of what the unstabilized recorded forms are, as well as the discrepancies of given names with principles operative in the Polish language.
