The subject of the research is the text of the Hymns to the Church by Gertruda von le Fort, a twentieth-century Christian German writer. The Hymns is the turning-point in le Fort's writings; in fact it is a record of the revelation of the truth about the Church and of the way leading to it. The author analyses le Fort's writings from the point of view of the image of the church presented there and of its compliance with the Catholic ecclesiology. At the beginning there is an attempt at defining of the term 'Church', which is done on the basis of the literature on the subject and of the Church documents (especially Lumen Gentium). The attributes of the Church AS described by le Fort, are classified thematically. The dominants are: the universality of the Church, its equating to the Mother, a belief in its holiness and in the fact that it is the most secure way leading to God, and that in the earthly life it constitutes His symbol and His presence. The writer identifies the Church's voice with God's voice, and she finds its teaching as permanent. One of the most important attributes of the Church is love ordered to God, as well as to every human, even if he/she is far away from the Church and he/she is mistaken. All examples taken from le Fort's hymns are supported with references to theological literature. The analyses presented show that le Fort's writings truly reflect the Christian image of the Church and the Truths of the Catholic faith.
