Modern Polish archaeology is a science that I judge to be largely degenerate. This is due to the influence of the degenerate Western European archaeology. What does it consist in? For the past few dozen years, the prevailing studies in our archaeology are by authors whose knowledge of the prehistoric past is limited to typological and material, as well as technical aspects. The dissertations are formalistic, ahumanistic, bearing little on knowledge of man and society in the past. It also consists in applying methods adopted from the natural sciences (like mathematics and physics) to describe living objects of culture, and even religious beliefs. The end effect is satiric in character. Mathematical and physical methods are suitable only for the description of inanimate matter. The living human spirit is not to be revealed in mathematical formulas. How should one explain this fall of archaeology? The reasons are many - let me mention the most important one. The brains of European (including Polish) scholars have a largely inactive right hemisphere to the advantage of the left one, which they use. And it is the right hemisphere of the brain that permits full cognition of prehistoric man - the left is insufficient. The author includes a list of works from the field of archaeology which are to his judgment the most valuable, enjoining especially the younger researchers to model their studies on these and to cultivate archaeology that is humanistic, the prehistory of man. (figs. 8).
