The aim of this contribution is to describe the structure of the nominal phrase (NP) in Bamanankan from Ségou, the dialect of the author. The language which is the topic of this contribution is called bámánánkán and the speakers are named bámánán. It is very known by the name bambara. The Bamanankan is the most important language among the 13 languages which are officially recognized as national languages of the Republic of Mali. It belongs to Manding, a group of Mande Languages which in turn belong to the Niger-Congo family. The NP is the part of the speech which fulfills the function of subject. We will try to describe the elements which can constitute an NP and the possibility for them to combine themselves into the NP. The NP has been already described by Touré (1975), but without tone. This causes problems if we analyse his description in our dialect. Tone makes the main difference between the dialect described by Touré and the described in this article. This article shows that the function of NP can be assumed by words of other categories and that it can be the most simple and most complex phrase type.
