Francuska marka Maison Berger Paris istnieje na rynku towarów luksusowych od końca XIX wieku. Pierwszą lampę katalityczną opracował jej założyciel, farmaceuta Maurice Berger w 1898 roku jako urządzenie do oczyszczania powietrza w szpitalach i przestrzeniach publicznych. W pierwszej połowie XX wieku marka współpracowała z wieloma znanymi projektantami szkła i ceramiki, dzięki czemu lampy stały się ważnym elementem francuskiego designu. Z czasem marka rozwinęła szeroką gamę kompozycji zapachowych i unikatowych kolekcji limitowanych lamp o walorach artystycznych. Obecnie lampy Maison Berger Paris łączą funkcję oczyszczania powietrza, aromaterapii oraz luksusowego wzornictwa, a historyczne egzemplarze są cenione przez kolekcjonerów szkła i przedmiotów użytkowych z XX wieku.

The French brand Maison Berger Paris has been a prominent presence in the luxury goods market since the late nineteenth century. The first catalytic lamp was developed by its founder, pharmacist Maurice Berger, in 1898 as a device for purifying the air in hospitals and public spaces. Its innovative system was based on the catalytic combustion of alcohol using a specially designed burner, effectively eliminating bacteria and unpleasant odors. The lamps soon found their way into private homes, where, in addition to their disinfecting properties, they also served decorative and fragrance-diffusing functions. During the first half of the twentieth century, the brand collaborated with numerous renowned designers and manufacturers of glass and ceramics, establishing its lamps as significant examples of French decorative arts and design. Models were produced in crystal, layered and pressed glass, porcelain, and metal. Following World War II, the popularity of the lamps grew alongside the increasing trend of fragrancing interior spaces. Over time, the company developed an extensive range of fragrances and introduced distinctive limited-edition collections with considerable artistic value. Today, Maison Berger Paris lamps combine air purification, home fragrance, and refined design. Historic models are highly sought after by collectors of twentieth-century glassware and decorative objects.
Obok zastosowania kulinarnego, ma on bardzo szerokie znaczenie fitoterapeutyczne i kosmetyczne, dlatego często można spotkać go w recepturach kosmetyków.

Cinnamon is a well-known and widely used spice extracted from the cortex, associated with desserts, beverages, and dishes. Besides its culinary uses, it has a wide range of phytotherapeutic and cosmetic applications, which is why it often appears in cosmetic recipes. The two most popular types of cinnamon are Ceylon and cassia. Both have culinary and phytotherapeutic uses, but they differ in both sensory qualities – the intensity of their aroma and flavor – as well as in their chemical composition and appearance. Both types of cinnamon are characterized by the presence of cinnamaldehyde, which is responsible for the spice’s characteristic aroma. They also contain eugenol (in varying amounts), while cassia cinnamon also contains coumarin. Camphor preparations can also be found on store shelves, but these are used exclusively for cosmetic or medicinal purposes and have no culinary applications. The main component of cinnamon essential oil is camphor.

Essential oils are natural products, primarily associated with their smell and oily consistency. They can be extracted from various parts of the plant, from buds and flowers to leaves, branches, bark, wood, fruit, seeds, and even roots. Oils extracted from a single plant but from different parts can have very diverse compositions, and therefore different properties and uses. They are obtained primarily through steam distillation, but also by enfleurage, maceration, and pressing, and effective methods are still being sought. The method of extracting essential oils influences both the composition and shelf life of the product, which can be used in aromatherapy, cosmetics, the food industry, and even phytotherapy. They can be used as an antioxidant, preservative, and natural insect and rodent repellent. Although their toxicity is considered low, caution should be exercised when using them, especially when consumed alone.

5-Aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) is a naturally occurring amino acid present in all living cells. Application of this compound across various fields is primarily attributed to its unique biochemical properties. As a precursor to heme, 5-ALA possesses the ability to be converted into protoporphyrin IX, a molecule with photosensitizing characteristics. Consequently, 5-ALA is employed in photodynamic pathogen inactivation and in photodynamic therapy and diagnostics targeting neoplastic tissues. Furthermore, 5-ALA enhances plant tolerance to abiotic stress factors and plays a critical role in metabolic processes essential for optimal plant growth. 5-ALA is used as a natural biostimulant, promoting increased chlorophyll synthesis and thereby enhancing photosynthetic efficiency. Extensive research is ongoing regarding the application of 5-ALA in animal husbandry and aquaculture.
Zbiorowiska rzadko zadrzewione z niskimi krzewami i roślinami, częściowo trawiaste, prawdopodobnie reagują szybko i pozytywnie (wzrost NDVI) na zwiększoną liczbę uwolnionych w wyniku pożaru substancji odżywczych.

The aim of the research was to assess the dynamics of forest regeneration after the intense fires that occurred in 2019. Satellite images from Landsat 8 and 9, recorded from March to July, in the years 2019-2023, were used to analyze this process. The reference material was a forest type layer developed by relevant Australian institutions. The spectral channels were cleared of clouds, so the averaged values from integrated images recorded at several dates were used for further processing. Despite this procedure, it was not possible to obtain reliable spectral information for some pixels of the image, and they were discarded. The proper analysis was performed based on the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). Based on the NDVI differences calculated between images from 2019 (before the fires) and the following year, five fire intensity zones were identified using natural breaks method. It was observed that the regeneration process varies depending on the fire intensity class: in classes with higher fire intensity, there is a significant drop in NDVI values immediately after the fire, followed by a gradual increase in subsequent years. In classes with lower fire intensity, an increase in NDVI values was observed immediately after the fire, exceeding the values present before the occurrence of this disaster, which results from the rapid regeneration of low vegetation. Four years after the fire, differences in NDVI values are still visible in all fire intensity zones. The observed differences in the course of the regeneration process can be explained by the varying nature of the burned plant communities and their response to fire damage. Sparsely wooded communities with low shrubs and plants, partially grassy, likely respond quickly and positively (NDVI increase) to the increased amount of nutrients released by the fire. In communities with a more complex vertical structure, the remains of burned trees shade the vegetation developing on the forest floor and they are partially invisible in satellite images (NDVI decrease). These communities also require a longer time to recover.
The work is based on a study of selected public, urban gardens with sensory features from Poland, supplemented with examples from Great Britain. The focus is primarily on creating spaces with therapeutic values, not only through their direct impact on the recipient, but also through their semantic value. Such an environment with a positive impact may be important especially for city dwellers, exposed to the adverse effects of the urban environment. The work includes a collection of several dozen plant species along with their uses and types of scent (excluding commonly known spice plants). In addition, thematic sets of plants associated with specific medicinal effects are proposed.

Testowano możliwość zastosowania syntetycznych fungicydów z grupy triazoli i strobiluryn wraz z biologicznymi środkami ochrony roślin.

The possibility of using synthetic fungicides from the triazole and strobilurin groups together with biol. plant protection products was tested. Their effect on inhibiting the growth of mycelium of fungi of the genus Fusarium was detd. All fungicide variants contg. tebuconazole completely inhibited the growth of mycelium of the tested pathogens. The addn. of selected biofungicides to azoxystrobin contributed to an increase in the effect of action compared to the substance from the strobilurin group alone. In the case of prothioconazole, all fungicide variants showed similar efficacy.
The properties of acrylic resin materials (flexural strength, hard ness, dimensional accuracy, water sorption, and solubility) after long-term exposure to disinfectants and enzymatic denture clean ing solutions (Kin® mouthwash, thymol oil, ginger oil, salt, and Poli dent® denture cleaner) were studied in relation to their pH values. One hundred and eighty thermally cured resin samples (VERACRIL®) were divided into a control group (immersed in distilled water) and 5 test groups (immersed in disinfectant and enzymatic solutions). Each group consisted of 25 samples, which were tested for flexural strength (using a universal testing machine), hardness (Vickers mi crohardness tester), dimensional accuracy, water sorption, and sol ubility. Samples immersed in Polident® cleaning agent and alkaline ginger oil demonstrated improved physical properties compared to the other groups and the control group. Low pH had a negative impact on the acrylic resin properties. Natural ginger oil, Polident®, and saline solution had the least negative impact on the acrylic resin properties. The pH values of the disinfectants played an significant role because they affected the chemical composition and functional structure of the acrylic resin.

Próbki zanurzone w środku czyszczącym Polident® i alkalicznym olejku imbirowym wykazały lepsze właściwości fizyczne w porównaniu z innymi grupami i grupą kontrolną. Niskie pH miało negatywny wpływ na właściwości żywicy akrylowej. Naturalny olejek imbirowy, Polident® i roztwór soli fizjologicznej najmniej negatywnie oddziaływały na właściwości żywicy akrylowej. Wartości pH środków dezynfekujących odgrywały ważną rolę, ponieważ wpływały na skład chemiczny i strukturę funkcjonalną żywicy akrylowej.

The Melaleuca plant genus is included in the myrtle family and is found from the Indochina Peninsula to Tasmania. The greatest diversity of plants in this family is found mainly in Australia. Essential oils extracted from plants of the Melaleuca genus are a mixture of valuable chemicals that exhibit a broad spectrum of biological properties. Studying the chemical composition of these oils can provide information on their active ingredients, which has applicationsin the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, as well as in aromatherapy. The essence of the study was to conduct an analysis to determine the chemical composition, learn about the main volatile compounds, as well as their percentage content in essential oils extracted from different varieties, namely: Melaleuca alternifolia (TTO), Melaleuca viridiflora (niaouli oil) and Melaleuca cajuputi (cayeput oil). Methods of analysis included gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to identify and determine the chemical components present in the samples. Two different chromatographic columns were used in the study - a non-polar column and a polar column. The results of the analysis indicated the presence of a variety of chemical components in essential oils of the Melaleuca genus. The composition of the chemical compounds present varied depending on the column used for analysis and the type of plant from which the oil was extracted. The main components of niauli and cayeput oils are: 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), α-terpineol and α-pinene. TTO, on the other hand, contains terpinene-4-ol, p-cymene and γ-terpinene. These compounds exhibit antibacterial, anti-inflammatory activity.
Essential oils - aromatic plant substances with strong biological activity - are increasingly used in pharmaceutical and cosmetic production. An example of an extremely active essential oil is thyme essential oil, obtained by steam distillation of thyme herb. Thyme oil has proven antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral activity. It is also characterized by strong antioxidant activity, as well as anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, and repellent properties. The biological activity of thyme oil and its possible applications depend on the origin of the raw material and the extraction method. Thymol and carvacrol are mentioned as the most active compounds of thyme oil, although other ingredients are also mentioned. The intended therapeutic effects can be achieved by using pure, natural oil and proper application. In cosmetic production, thyme oil can act as an active ingredient of the product and/or a natural preservative that extends its shelf life.

Eucalyptus belongs to the Myrtaceae family, comprising some 900 species and subspecies. Eucalyptus leaf extracts have been approved for use as food additives, and are now also used in cosmetic preparations. Plants have a wide range of chemical and physical defense mechanisms against external threats. Most essential oils have some degree of antimicrobial activity, which can be attributed to the presence of a number of terpenoid and phenolic compounds. Essential oils have the potential to deal with various cellular and molecular cascades. Strong fields cause significant stretching of bonds in the molecule, and these fields can also cause geometric changes. EEF-induced global geometric changes are ubiquitous in organometallic and coordination complexes. The purpose of the study was to determine the possibility of identifying changes in the biological substance on the basis of photon emission characteristics. In addition, to determine the variation in photon emission of infusions of selected herbs that were subjected to the action of a constant electric field. The impact of the electric field affects the photon emission of biological material in a heterogeneous manner. The greatest decrease in the number of photons was observed with a three-hour stimulation with an electric field of 2.2 kV/cm. The use of different parameters of voltage and stimulation time modifies the structure of photon emission, thus providing an opportunity to identify the degree of interaction.

Eukaliptus należy do rodziny Myrtaceae, obejmującą około 900 gatunków i podgatunków. Rośliny posiadają szeroki zakres chemicznych i fizycznych mechanizmów obronnych przed zagrożeniami zewnętrznymi. Większość olejków eterycznych ma pewien stopień działania przeciwdrobnoustrojowego, co można przypisać obecności szeregu związków terpenoidowych i fenolowych. Olejki eteryczne mają potencjał do radzenia sobie z różnymi kaskadami komórkowymi i molekularnymi.
Essential oils have found widespread use due to their properties observed back in nature. Eucalyptus oil is obtained from the knobby eucalyptus, grown mainly in Australia and Tasmania. The predominant component of the oil is eucalyptol. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which a constant electric field affects the electromagnetic spectrum structure in the visible light range of eucalyptus oil. The experiments carried out showed differences in the electromagnetic spectrum depending on the applied values of the electric voltage parameters and the exposure time of the constant electric field. To generate significant changes in the light transmittance of eucalyptus oil, it should be subjected to electric field exposure with an electric voltage between 4 and 8.5 kV/cm and a time between 0.5 and 1.5 hours.

The chemical composition of commercial thyme oils, freshly hydrodistilled EO (essetntial oil) from dried thyme herb and thymol, the main thyme oil constituent, were analyzed in the aspect of possible cytotoxic effect against MCF-7 breast cancer and normal L929 mouse fibroblast cell lines. Based on the GC-MS analysis, it was found that the commercial essential oils revealed similarities in their chemical composition. The content of main components such as thymol, linalool and α-pinene was almost equal. Interestingly, the EO obtained by hydrodistillation from Thymi herba showed considerable differences in the percentage content of some main constituents. The reason for the differences may be caused by the intraspecific chemical variability of T. vulgaris L. Four types of tested EOs can be classified as a ‘thymol’ chemotype, with thymol as the predominant compound. The thymol alone and the freshly hydrodistilled EO demonstrated the highest cytotoxic effect against used cell lines. The difference in IC50 values suggests more sensitive L929 cells are more sensitive in both the CCK-8 assay (except EOs Kawon) and the NRU assay.
Purpose: Chitosan is a natural polysaccharide known for its excellent biodegradable, barrier and antimicrobial properties. Therefore, it is often used in the preparation of edible films. A vast variety of essential oils have been incorporated into the films to enhance their antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Despite all the positive effects of chitosan in its application as food packaging, its films are fragile and brittle. Therefore, plasticizers are usually added to improve the chitosan's mechanical properties. The present article investigates the effect of different plasticizers, namely Glycerol, Polyethylene glycol, and Polyvinyl alcohol, on the physical characteristics of clove essential oil-loaded chitosan film (chitosan/CEO). Design/methodology/approach: Chitosan/CEO films are prepared using the casting method. The intermolecular interactions are determined by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), the surface morphology is observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the mechanical properties are tested in tensile and puncture modes. The thermal stability and the compound physical state are investigated using Differential Scanning Calorimetry. Water adsorption isotherms and water vapour permeability are also determined. Findings: The addition of plasticizer is found to have a beneficial effect on the mechanical properties of chitosan films and does not change the hydrophilic-hydrophobic balance, colour parameters, and thermal stability drastically. In such a way, the plasticized films are suitable for food packaging. Practical implications: Future research will investigate the effect of other environmentally friendly plasticizers on edible films made from chitosan/essential oils. Originality/value: Based on our knowledge, the present research investigates the effect of different plasticizers on the chitosan/CEO edible films for the first time.
Essential oils have found wide use due to their properties already observed in nature. Because of the new interest in natural products such as essential oils, despite their widespread use and familiarity as fragrances, it is important to better understand their mode of biological action for new applications in medicine, agriculture and the environment. an important goal of modern chemical physics is to gain external control over the dynamics of elementary chemical processes. Manipulating chemical transformations with external electromagnetic fields is at the heart of modular chemistry, chemical stereodynamics and quantum control of molecular dynamics. The aim of this study was to determine the degree of influence of an alternating elecromagnetic field on the structure of the electromagnetic spectrum in the visible light range of selected essential oils. The experiments conducted showed the effect of an alternating electromagnetic field on the electromagnetic spectrum of cedarwood oil. To generate significant changes in the light permeability of the suspension, for both oils, the oils must be subjected to a two-hour exposure to an electromagnetic field of 40 mT

The chemical composition of two commercially available lavender fragrance oils was determined and compared. The process of concentration by partial evaporation was carried out and its influence on changes in the content of individual components in the analysed mixtures was examined. The effect of poly(vinyl alcohol)-based polymer matrix on the release of volatile substances from oils was tested as well. The presence and chemical composition of the polymer matrix affects the relative content of volatile substances released from the liquid phase containing the tested fragrance composition.

Określono i porównano skład chemiczny dwóch handlowych olejków o zapachu lawendy.
