Purpose: This article aims to demonstrate threats to the correct reporting of carbon footprint according to the requirements of the European Union, using the example of Poland. Design/methodology/approach: The research methods used include analysis of secondary data from Eurostat, analysis of legal acts, and literature studies on the measurement and reporting of carbon footprint. Findings: The introduction of uniform reporting standards (European Sustainability Reporting Standards - ESRS) and key indicators for assessing the performance of units means the need to collect numerous data. The obligation to prepare sustainable development reports will significantly impact the scope of work and the accounting tools used in both financial and management accounting. Current European Union requirements for determining and reporting carbon footprint information will challenge accountants. The very complexity of the construction of the carbon footprint and the methods of its calculation, which require the use of dedicated software, may open up room for errors and abuse. Research limitations/implications: The EU’s environmental policy and ESRS reporting requirements will evolve. The actual enforcement of the accuracy of carbon footprint reporting remains to be verified; therefore, such a study should be repeated. Practical implications: Poland is a country that has a lot to do in the field of environmental protection among the European Union countries. This will lead to remarkably high pressure and costs imposed on companies, increasing the potential threat of violations of ethical standards when preparing non-financial reporting regarding the impact of companies’ activities and products on the natural environment. The problem for accountants is also the fear of the consequences of disclosing information, which indicates the negative impact of the activities of these entities on the natural environment. This is undoubtedly an area susceptible to unethical activities. Originality/value: The paper's originality lies in comparing carbon footprint reporting requirements with the ecological situation of Poland, among other European Union countries, as a source of potential irregularities in the reports of Polish companies.

The fields and methods of contemporary scientific research are not verified in practice by any significantly binding legal provisions or moral standards. Furthermore, the implementation of technical projects that could potentially have a profound impact on the well-being of societies is limited only by economic constraints and/or technological capabilities. Today's world confronts us with the terrifying question: are we really living in a matrix from which there is no escape? [20]. Analysing the threats posed by the growing divergence between the technical and humanistic aspects of 21st-century civilisation, ETHICS has been identified as an element supporting its sustainable development. It can be the BASIS for less conflictual social relations, especially in an era of rapid expansion of artificial intelligence.
Nowadays, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly important, and this is no exception in the military, because, thanks to machine-learning algorithms, computers can now perform complex tasks semi-independently. In military operations, the leaders are forced to risk, and in some cases sacrifice, human lives. The question arises as to what happens when command decisions are made by AI. The author has already addressed the issue of the military application of AI in several publications. In this paper, the social and ethical issues involved in military applications and other human aspects of AI have been some of the subjects of the investigation. The subsequent sections summarise the use of AI, for military purposes in particular, from the perspective of its potential impact on democracy. The article concludes with an overview of the international state of regulation of AI, without claiming to be exhaustive, but with a particular focus on the rules governing military use.

Artificial intelligence is revolutionising industry, significantly improving work efficiency. However, the development of AI continues to generate new ethical challenges. An international legal framework has already been developed to ensure the ethical and safe development of AI. However, it seems that new threats and ethical dilemmas continue to arise as AI develops further. This study aims to explain some of the benefits and threats of using AI in industry and to encourage reflection on the need to intensify work in this area in view of the further development of AI. Several selected ways of using AI in industry are presented, such as the implementation of cobots, algorithmic management, employee monitoring, the implementation of sustainable development ideas, and the use of generative artificial intelligence. Some of the existing legal frameworks for the safety and ethics of artificial intelligence are also described. The work is theoretical in nature and is based on a critical analysis of the literature on the subject. The reflections presented reveal a lack of consideration of the dangers associated with the responsibility involved in entrusting machines with autonomy and decision-making.
Purpose: The aim of this article is to attempt to answer the question of key ethical aspects of the development of artificial intelligence considering its current relevance to CSR principles. Design/methodology/approach: The main method is the analysis of the subject literature, research results and reports analysis. Findings: This paper provides research results that the dominant theme in the design of CSR activities should be the effects of introducing AI into public life, especially protecting society from abuse by new technologies. Social implications: An overview of the achievements, positions and insights contained in selected EPTA reports as a representative of European communities focused on the evaluation of new technologies allows to spread practical value in life of society. Originality/value: The article provides insight into the considerations of basic scopes of implications of AI ethics principles on CSR.
Professor Zbigniew K. Zuziak, who unexpectedly passed away in April 2023, was an eminent scholar, urbanist, and architect actively involved in the development of Kraków, open to the views of others and constantly seeking the essence of the phenomena that he studied. He engaged in discussions on a variety of issues within the realms of architecture, urban planning, and spatial planning in the context of humanities and economics, aiming to enrich the art of city building. Particularly significant in the Professor’s approach was the precise definition of concepts, naming of phenomena, and expression of ideas, which he considered crucial for the development of both professional scientific and practical workshops. Professor Zuziak addressed challenges related to the construction of urban form, including its aesthetic and ethical aspects. Drawing inspiration from philosophical currents that define beauty in ethical terms as moral beauty, he outlined the challenge of balancing conflicting interests and seeking new relationships between communities and individuals, as well as between culture and nature. In this article, the author attempts to outline the issues of ethical city development based on themes derived from the rich legacy of his Master. The results of reflections on the works of Professor Z. Zuziak were presented in the context of the current state of research. The findings were systematized in three thematic areas, outlining the framework for ethical urban development. Conclusions summarize the author’s exploration of the Professor’s main arguments and messages

Purpose: The purpose of the article is to characterize the possibilities of using artificial intelligence in relation to food safety in the food chain. Design/methodology/approach: A review of recent literature on AI in the food industry was conducted in relation to food safety. Findings/conclusions: AI is used in processes in the food chain concerning its various participants (farmers, producers, distributors) as a preventive measure against food safety hazards and threats, as well as in the event of a food safety hazard and threat. AI gives the ability to collect, process, model and analyze large amounts of data, which is why its applications in the food industry and ensuring food safety are very wide - from monitoring, risk prediction, prevention, training, to quick reactions related to product withdrawal from the market and informing institutions and consumers. Research limitations: Theoretical aspects have been addressed, but they can be expanded to include practical aspects, opinions of consumers, producers and institutions. Practical implications: The article points to the important issue of the use of AI in quality assurance, in terms of prevention, but also in response to threats arising from food. AI can be used in various areas. We must remember ethics and responsibility when using AI. Originality/value: This is a current topic related to the development of AI, its advantages and the threats it brings.
Global climate threats require changes in behaviour and lifestyles to promote sustainable consumption and production. This is particularly true for business organisations and may involve the adoption of practices based on environmental virtues. While the literature on environmental virtues is extensive, there is a general lack of studies on the application of virtues in management and business. One of the main objectives of this article is to identify environmental virtues that can be linked to the activities of organisations. The main research methods were diagnostic and comparative analysis, as well as a review of relevant literature. The reviewed studies show that the main virtues that define a person's emotional attitude towards the natural environment are an open-ended curiosity that generates intellectual capital (knowledge), persistence and perseverance, courage, humility, friendship, respect, justice, care, gratitude, compassion and mercy, and trust and confidence. These virtues should constitute the organisational values of sustainable organisations, serve as the axiological basis of their flourishing and functional strategies (e.g. ESG), and be evident in systems, methods and processes, as well as in management tools such as codes of ethics.

Głównymi metodami badawczymi były: diagnoza i analiza porównawcza oraz an overview of the literature.

This paper investigates the implementation of AI- driven feedback in an intelligent tutoring system (ITS) developed for training of counselors. By using LLMs, the study explores the automatic generation of feedback for communication-intensive tasks such as online counseling. The evaluation compares different feedback methods, including the sandwich, WWW and STATE methods, and assesses their emotional and objective impact. The results show that AI-generated feedback fulfills objective criteria better than emotional ones. Fine-tuning an open source LLM can improve both the emotional and objective quality of feedback. Furthermore, the study examines the acceptance of AI feedback among aspiring counselors, highlighting the influence of familiarity with AI on acceptance levels. Ethical considerations, including bias and hallucination, are addressed, with recommendations for risk mitigation through multi-feedback options and expert supervision. This research contributes to the understanding of the role of AI in improving digital counseling practices and highlights the need for continuous evaluation and ethical considerations.
Purpose: The theoretical goal is to learn what ethical values are actually present in management concepts. We achieve this goal by analysing the content of management manuals. The practical goal is to draw the attention of the authors of textbooks and people teaching the basics of management to ethical deficiencies present in management textbooks and, as a result, deficiencies in the education of people studying management. Design/methodology/approach: In the article, we used a quantitative and qualitative content analysis method. This method consists in a systematic study of the content of a text in search of the most frequently occurring words and concepts. The aim is to discover ethical content in management textbooks. Findings: In the analysed textbooks, only an outline of ethics can be found as a set of moral norms and values recognized/preferred in the business environment in business activity. However, we will not find ethics understood as a philosophical reflection on morality/ethos. We also found a great deal of variation in management textbooks regarding the presence of ethical values. Research limitations/implications: In the study, we took into account nine popular management textbooks. This made it possible to determine the dominant ethical content in the entire group of textbooks, without the possibility of formulating binding conclusions regarding the differentiation between various teaching and research centres. Practical implications: The results achieved may become an inspiration to write textbooks on the basics of management with more extensive ethical threads, adequate to the humanistic challenges facing management. Social implications: The results of the study may make us aware of the need to prepare management manuals that will prepare managers for ethical management. Originality/value: Conclusions regarding management ethics are formulated on the basis of empirical research. In the study, we used content analysis (qualitative and quantitative) not used in ethical research.

Originality/value: Apart from a brief attempt at the definition of AI and its use in higher education, the author also presents a critical perspective and possible threats, as well as proposes solutions that can regulate the ways of using artificial intelligence not only in higher education, but also in other areas of industry and social life.

In order to assess the impact of robots on society, it is necessary to carefully analyze the state-of-the-art, and in particular the fundamental issues that have yet to be resolved, however having significant impact on the potential societal changes resulting from the development of robotics. The aforementioned impact depends on the level of intelligence of robots, so this aspect dominates in the presented analysis. The presentation has been divided into three parts: 1) analysis of technical factors affecting the intelligence and security of robots, 2) analysis of current capabilities of robots, 3) analysis of diverse predictions of how robotics will evolve, and thus the attitudes towards the influence of the result of this development on society. This part of the paper is devoted to the third of the above mentioned three issues.

Ostatnie dekady to czas spektakularnego rozwoju nowoczesnych technologii, w tym w sektorze produkcji żywności. W wyniku transferu genów z jednych organizmów do innych stało się możliwe tworzenie coraz to nowych odmian genetycznie zmodyfikowanych roślin i zwierząt.

The last decades have been a time of spectacular development of modern technologies, including those in the food production sector. As a result of the transfer of genes from one organism to another, it has become possible to create ever new varieties of genetically modified plants and animals. These achievements of modern science do not go unnoticed in religious circles, especially in the religious tradition of Judaism with its specific prohibitions on the consumption of certain products of plant and animal origin and the norms regulating the cultivation or preparation of food. Jewish law distinguishes the species of animals that Jews can eat, i.e. kosher ones, from those that they cannot eat, i.e. non-kosher (all plants are considered kosher). This environment also raises issues related to the cultivation and consumption of genetically modified plants and animals, including those with genetic material artificially transferred from other plants or animals considered in that tradition to be non-kosher. Although there is no consensus in Judaism, its mainstream tends to accept genetic technologies for altering organisms and the consumption of modified foods. Jewish decision-makers in the field of law and ethics base their mild stance on the general principle that anything not explicitly forbidden in the Bible and the Talmud is accepted as permitted.

Rozwój technik obliczeniowych, robotyki, druku 3D i technologii materiałowych umożliwia tworzenie zaawansowanych systemów robotów, które mogą autonomicznie rozmnażać się i ewoluować. Powstająca technologia ewolucji robotów rzuca wyzwanie istniejącej etyce sztucznej inteligencji, ponieważ wrodzona adaptacyjność, stochastyczność i złożoność systemów ewolucyjnych stwarzają liczne zagrożenia.

Development of computational techniques, robotics, 3D printing and materials technologies enables the creation of advanced robotic systems that can autonomously reproduce and evolve. Emerging robotic evolution technology challenges existing AI ethics. The inherent adaptability, stochasticity and complexity of evolutionary systems pose numerous threats. It is difficult to underestimate the possible implications of two key functionalities of evolving robots: self-replication and random change of robot form and behavior. Self-replication allows robots to reproduce without human intervention. Mutations or random evolutionary changes can lead to undesirable and harmful behavior of robots, threatening human interests. Whenever a technology is developed that is not under direct human control and the process is unpredictable, questions of risk and liability arise. The article addresses both possible risk of harm and liability in connection with the key issue of human control over the process of evolution. The issue of responsibility for artificial intelligence was considered to be particularly important from both an ethical and legal point of view. In general, responsibility covers the full spectrum of events ex post (who is at fault, what was the reason), and ex ante (what actions should be taken to reduce the risk, i.e. what is negligence and who commits it), and usually rests with people. The problem, however, is the existence of gaps in the scope of liability for damages or adverse events involving people and artificial intelligence systems that cannot be filled with traditional concepts of assigning responsibility. The article indicates a method of comprehensively solving the problem of gaps in liability for artificial intelligence, proposed in the literature, based on the idea of designing social engineering systems that enable “meaningful human control”, i.e. systems adapted to human intentions and capabilities. The aim of the article is to indicate the urgent need for a continuous search for an answer to the question of how to responsibly control the evolution of robots.
P. Crutzen and E. Stoermer’s concept that humanity has entered a new geological epoch – the Anthropocene, in which the human species has become the leading geological force, is the subject of multidisciplinary scientific research. The debate on the Age of Man reconnects the sphere of facts and the normative sphere, while still continuing the eco-developmental concept oriented towards the search for new socio-economic solutions. One of the assumptions of the naturalistic narrative of the Anthropocene is the conviction that human action has the greatest impact on the environment and we are responsible for its condition. Often compared in literature to other great revolutions in science – Copernicus‘ and Darwin‘s theory – the paradigm shift in thinking in the Anthropocene forces us to rethink the key concepts of classical philosophy: human, nature, responsibility. The article presents an outline of the ethical debate on responsibility in the Anthropocene, considering its collective and individual aspects, and introduces a new concept of co-existence, which integrates ecosystems with the technosphere.
Samkhya philosophy is one of the oldest philosophies in the Indian philosophical system. This philosophy is independent in origin and mainly known for its evolution theory. Samkhya philosophy has accepted the two ultimate and independent realities, Nature and pure Consciousness. This paper is an attempt to comprehend the notion of deep ecology from the Samkhya’s evolution theory perspective. In this paper, firstly, we have elucidated the Samkhya philosophy of suffering and the solution to the problem. In the second part of the article, we have argued that how Samkhya’s philosophical notion of Nature demonstrates our embeddedness in Nature. Therefore, the idea of deep ecology is always there in one or another form in Samkhya philosophy. It has also connections to the idea of sustainable development

Filozofia sankhji zaakceptowała dwie ostateczne i niezależne rzeczywistości: Naturę i czystą Świadomość.

Of all animal products, the most controversial is the consumption of meat and its role in human nutrition. Eating meat has been a sign of prosperity and high social status for centuries. Thanks to its high protein content with an amino acid profile that is beneficial to the human body, meat, such as milk and eggs, plays an important role in the food economy. Global economic development leads to an increase in the prosperity of societies and an increase in the demand for food, including meat. The need to meet the demand for protein of animal origin is a factor driving the intensification of animal production, which in turn leads to increased environmental pressure. Unsustainable meat consumption also raises ethical questions.
Ethics issues are present in the daily life of every human being. This paper presents an overview of difficult, yet everyday ethics dilemmas, and general rules and tools helping in making ethical choices. These tools are: distinguishing facts from values, reasoning from principles, defining terms and clarifying concepts, comparing cases, thought experiments, logic, and recognizing and avoiding errors in reasoning. But ethical issues also appear on a bigger scale in every social group, including organizations. The paper contains a literature review and an analysis of it applied to the present day. The analysis includes topics of medical ethics, business ethics and ecoethics, and was conducted according to the basic tools used in ethical problem solving. There are also discussions about a key condition for performing ethical analysis, that is, the distinction between ethics and morality. An ethical solution is dictated by logical principles and based on facts, while respecting the tools of ethical reasoning. In contrast, accepted values are also taken into account when interpreting events morally.
