The article presents the cycle of pharmaceuticals in the water and soil environment and their impact on the ecosystem. The problem of environmental pollution by pharmaceuticals was also shown by a survey on public awareness of proper disposal of antibiotics. The results of the surveys show that although the issue of environmental pollution is becoming more and more frequently discussed in the public debate, knowledge of basic actions such as proper disposal of medicines is still insufficient. Therefore, proper disposal of medicines should be promoted through various educational activities to raise people's awareness.

In recent years, the need to develop and improve the effectiveness of geological and raw materials education in Poland, broadly understood, has been clearly expressed in various circles - scientific, governmental, and among entrepreneurs operating in the mining industry. The interest in this issue at the national level is reflected, among others, in the establishment of a team for this type of education within the Earth Resources Management Council, operating under the Minister of Climate and Environment in the scope of tasks belonging to the Chief Geologist of the Country. As part of the team's activities, the survey was developed to obtain information and statistical data on the experiences and opinions of universities regarding the knowledge and skills of high school graduates admitted to study geology or related fields. Over 85% of universities offering geology or related fields participated in the survey. The survey clearly shows a significant decline in the number of students in recent years - reaching several dozen percent. The responses indicated the reasons for such low interest. These include: the core curriculum for geography in secondary schools, gaps or outdated knowledge presented in textbooks, media trends presenting an erroneous or distorted image of geologists and mining. The issue of finding a job after graduation, which is often overlooked in the media and in discussions on the subject, is not without significance. The survey also indirectly pointed to gaps in knowledge about the principles of core curricula at universities and limited knowledge of the information contained in geography textbooks on geology. The data obtained from the survey was used for systematic analysis and determination of the quality of education of future geological staff and will be used to develop possible corrective measures. The data presented is of a general nature, in accordance with the clause on access to the data attached to the survey. The data presented is the property of the geological and raw materials education team of the Earth Resources Management Council and the Undersecretary of State, Chief Geologist of the Country.

Background: The Best-worst Method (BWM) has been successfully applied in various fields since it was first proposed in 2015, with numerous extensions developed over time. Its advantages over other pairwise comparison-based multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods-such as requiring fewer pairwise comparisons and providing more consistent evaluations-make it preferable. The primary motivation for this article stems from the fact that no comprehensive review of the method has been published since 2019. The reason for focusing specifically on the “Transportation and Logistics” field is the significant increase in BWM applications within this sector and the large number of BWM studies conducted since the last review article in 2019. Methods: This article provides a bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer visualizations, complemented by a robust interpretation and inference analysis that explores in-depth connections between studies. Specifically, the analysis covers key statistical aspects, including the specific issues to which BWM is applied in the transportation and logistics field, publication trends, methods with which it is integrated, and the concepts (such as fuzzy set, rough set, neutrosophy, stratification etc.) with which it is commonly used. Additionally, the study examines the journals in which these studies are published and the distribution of studies across different countries. Results: The study revealed that several key areas within the transportation and logistics industry, such as occupational health, personnel selection, and the effects of pandemics, remain underexplored. Conclusion: The article highlights emerging research opportunities within the transportation and logistics sector and explores various ideas for the applications of BWM extensions. It also discusses activities, software, books and events related to BWM. The study provides an overview of the current state of BWM applications in transport and logistics and serves as a guide for potential future research.

The development of civilisation and the changing needs of users have meant that most historic buildings have lost their original function and have begun to deteriorate as a result of lack of use. For this reason, structures preserved in the form of ruins require a comprehensive approach to solving their conservation, technical and architectural problems. The article presents the author’s method of analysing a ruined building, which takes into account a number of decisionmaking factors that form the basis for evaluating the structure and determining its further treatment. The proposed analysis is presented from the perspective of a conservationist and is intended to be a comprehensive compilation of knowledge about the monument. The author emphasises the significance of castle ruins as an important group of monuments that can provide a wealth of information about the history and culture of a site. However, there is currently no standard for analysing and collecting data that is crucial for the preservation of the site. The creation of such a document is therefore an extremely important issue.

W artykule przedstawiona została autorska metoda analizy zrujnowanego obiektu, która uwzględnia wiele czynników, będących podstawą do oceny obiektu i określenia dalszego postępowania.

Farmers face many challenges while growing crops such as monitoring and maintaining plant health. Key indicators of poor plant health are plant anomalies such as pests, plant disease, and weeds, which can decrease crop yield. Over 40% of global crop production is lost to plant anomalies, costing $220 billion annually. As the global population and demand for food increases, farmers will have to grow more food, making manual surveying for plant anomalies increasingly difficult. This forces farmers to excessively and indiscriminately apply more fertilizers and pesticides across their whole fields, often to both healthy and unhealthy plants, unnecessarily wasting acres worth of chemicals and increasing chemical contamination of food and environmental footprint of agriculture as the chemicals release greenhouse gases after their application and leak into ecosystems. Recent advances in deep learning with Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) allow using imaging data to solve this problem. LeAF aims to provide farmers with an end-to-end system to survey crops on the field and take targeted actions to maintain plant health. By focusing on agricultural pests, this paper demonstrates the following capabilities for the visual perception sub-system of LeAF: (1) use CNNs on field images to get plant-specific data with bounding box based detection and classification about plant anomalies at human-level accuracy and (2) combine detection and classification functionality into a single compact distilled model that can run on farmer accessible mobile phones or in embedded devices in agricultural tractors and robots with low latency and high throughput to enable real-time processing on video feeds. With lightweight and accurate plant anomaly detection and classification, LeAF addresses plant health management challenges faced by farmers, empowering them with actionable insights to enhance productivity while minimizing chemical usage and its environmental impact.

W roku 2023 podjęto próbę oszacowania masy bioodpadów i czynników mających na nią wpływ, w oparciu o próbę ankiet w gminie Słomniki.

National Waste Management Plan 2028 comprises goals and tasks also in the field of selective collection of bio-waste from residents as well as increased organic recycling by promoting composting of bio-waste by residents "at the source". European Union guidelines require reporting and present two methods of obtaining data: indirect and direct (including surveys). Actual measurement of the input or output from the recycling process is not always possible and therefore attention is paid to the high level of confidence in the data. In 2023, an attempt was made to determine the mass of bio-waste and factors which influence it, based on surveys in the Słomniki commune. In the Słomniki commune 3689 farms were established, of which 2709 declared composting activities. There were 30 responses of groups of people declaring composting and 15 responses of people who did not declare composting. Conducted survey researches showed high diversity of estimated mass of bio-waste generated in both groups. There is high probability of underestimating the mass of bio-waste at the municipal level, calculated taking into account the morphological composition and mass of waste generated. The underestimation of the mass of bio-waste may result from grass mulching practices, which were declared by at least 20% of respondents.

Last years have been a time of exceptionally rapid changes when it comes to the Polish real estate market. Unexpected situations, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the outbreak of the war across the eastern border of Poland or a very fast increase in inflation resulting in an increase in the prices of building materials and a decrease in the creditworthiness of Poles, resulted in lower interest in buying flats. Due to all these factors, even more importance is attached to the decision to buy an apartment, which is becoming more and more difficult. In order to find an answer to the question of what is most important to people when looking for a property and what factors affect the final purchase, a survey was conducted this spring. After analyzing the results, charts were drawn containing data answering the research questions posed, the presentation of which is the aim of this article.

Purpose: Recent years have brought a very dynamic increase in the importance of the environmental aspects of the activities conducted by enterprises in the mining industry. This is mainly due to the currently binding legal requirements in the field of environmental protection, which impose a number of obligations on business entities, aimed at limiting the impact of activities on the natural environment, removing effects, as well as rehabilitating areas affected by this activity. In order to be able to fully manage the environmental costs incurred by companies in connection with pro-ecological activities, it is necessary to provide appropriate tools and enable people dealing with the above-mentioned issues to raise their qualifications. In the article, in addition to the literature review, an attempt was made to present the issues related to the reporting of environmental costs in the mining sector, both in terms of creating reports, classification of costs and the knowledge of employees dealing with the above mentioned issue and identification of areas requiring improvement. For this purpose, a specially created questionnaire was used, the results of which were also presented in the article. Design/methodology/approach: The article presents the results of a survey on the awareness of environmental costs in people who deal with the above-mentioned costs. The test results are presented by means of graphs. Findings: The most important problems related to environmental cost reporting by mining companies include: reporting only those costs that are required by law, insufficient knowledge of environmental costs among employees preparing reports, lack of a detailed classification of environmental costs dedicated to the mining sector. As part of the survey, problems related to reporting of environmental costs by mining plants were identified. They were mainly related to the knowledge of the concept of environmental costs by those responsible for reporting them and adequate training in the field of these costs. Additionally, the level of employee interest in participation in conferences and courses related to environmental costs was examined. Originality/value: This article is dedicated to employees of the mining sector and students of mining faculties. The article presents a change in the perception of environmental costs incurred by hard coal mines as only negative, and the extension of environmental reports to include costs incurred, inter alia, for preventive measures and the use of questionnaire surveys as a method of measuring employees' awareness of environmental costs was proposed.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to collect information on students' perception of their life quality during a pandemic. It aimed at gaining information on how quality of life changed before and during the pandemic. Design/methodology/approach: The research method used was a questionnaire survey. For this purpose, Google Form was used. The survey contained 22 multiple choice questions. Findings: The pandemic had a negative impact on the perception of life quality. Using a categorization into 8 areas in the hierarchy of values in the students' lives, the most important were found to be family, mental and physical health and friends. Research limitations/implications The major limitation was the number of votes collected in the survey. The next research should be extended to include the issue of hierarchy of values in relation to the perception of life quality and a larger research group, for example, students from different universities in different provinces. Social implications: This study will provide insight into the issues and changes in the perception of life quality that affect students during a global pandemic. The article presented here is a voice in the discussion of students' perception of life quality during a pandemic. Originality/value: The research presents changes in the perception of life quality by students of the Silesian University of Technology during a global pandemic.

Annoyance due to wind turbine noise is usually assessed on the basis of surveys conducted among people living in the vicinity of turbines or in the laboratory conditions. Due to the fact that the latter are very different from natural conditions, we propose a solution to reduce this difference. Prior to the surveys, 50 participants were asked to familiarize themselves with 5 environmental signals. They were informed about the annoyance rating assigned to each signal (obtained earlier in laboratory conditions), expressed as a number between 0 (not annoying signal) and 10 (extremely annoying signal). Participants were then presented with new environmental sounds and asked to rate the annoyance caused by each sound, in accordance with the previously learned method. The analysis of our results shows that the variability of answers given by respondents at their homes is similar to those obtained earlier in laboratory conditions.

The article presents aspects connected with the identification of the main problems of the deaf and the hard of hearing when they use public transport and the related infrastructure in Poland. For the purpose of the analysis, a survey was conducted among 71 deaf and hard of hearing persons who live in large conurbations and use public transport daily. The survey included questions concerning to what extent the public transport and infrastructure are adapted to the needs of the hard of hearing. The participants evaluated the system of passenger information and indicated problems they come across most frequently in public transport vehicles and at stops. The problems were related to two primary issues: difficulties communicating directly with the drivers or when paying the fare in the ticket window and problems hearing and understanding voice messages played in vehicles and at train/bus stations.

Endpoint users are usually viewed as the highest-risk element in the field of cybersecurity. At the same time, they need to be protected not just from the individual-level prism but also, from the state’s perspective, to counter threats like botnets that harvest weakly secured endpoints and forge an army of so-called zombies that are often used to attack critical infrastructure or other systems vital to the state. Measures aimed at citizens like the Israeli hotline for cybersecurity incidents or Estonian educational efforts have already started to be implemented. However, little effort is made to understand the recipients of such measures. Our study uses the survey method to partly fill this gap and investigate how endpoint users (citizens) are willing to protect themselves against cyber threats. To make results more valid, a unique comparison was made between cyber threats and physical threats according to the impact which they had. The results show statistically significant differences between comparable cyber-physical pairs indicating that a large portion of the sample was not able to assess the threat environment appropriately and that state intervention with fitting countermeasures is required. The resultant matrix containing frequencies of answers denotes what portion of respondents are willing to invest a certain amount of time and money into countering given threats, this enables the possible identification of weak points where state investment is needed most.

Shifting classes into distance learning mode has become a challenge in the teaching process for the entire academic community in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only academics but also students had to adapt to the new form of education. At the turn of May and June 2021, the authors conducted a survey on teaching of mathematics subjects among first-year students of the Opole University of Technology who attended math courses in the summer semester 2020/2021. This article focuses on analysis of survey results for questions related to conducting lectures and exercises in the remote form. The students were asked about the method of remote lecture which they used the most and they could pick up to two methods out of the five indicated ways of lecturing. As many as 81.1% of surveyed students chose a lecture with a presentation as one of the lecture forms they prefer. Similar analyses were carried out in the context of conducting the exercises. This time the students had a choice of six options related to the forms of conducting exercises. As many as 84.3% of students marked one answer: the teacher solves and discusses exercises on the on-line board as the one they prefer. It was also examined what is the attitude of students towards using video camera during classes by the teacher and/or by the student. Without a surprise it turned out to be negative when it comes to students showing their video feed. The unexpected part is that students view negatively the setup where teacher is using a video camera during classes.
