Digitalisation and, increasingly, artificial intelligence adoption are transforming workplaces and increasing psychosocial risks that current occupational safety and health (OSH) systems only partially address. We propose a multilevel model that redefines burnout from an individual issue to a systemic hazard, shifting the emphasis from HR practices to system safety. Combining the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) theoretical framework, academic research and survey evidence, we highlight how features of the digital/AI workplace (algorithmic management, constant connectivity, biometric monitoring, flexibility, digital metrics over human judgment) create a double feedback loop of reactivity (incidents → tighter monitoring → higher demands) and silencing (burnout → under-reporting), which might cause systemic failure. We propose three ideas that position techno-burnout as a key factor in socio-technical reliability, and argue that recognising techno-burnout as a systemic safety risk can shape the governance discourse by examining its implications and suggesting its inclusion in national AI legislation.

W artykule zaproponowano więc metodę oceny narażenia pracowników na jednoczesne działanie tych trzech czynników, a ponadto przedstawiono wyniki oceny ryzyka zawodowego przeprowadzonego tą metodą w odniesieniu do pięciu rzeczywistych stanowisk pracy.

Currently used standardized methods for assessing exposure to whole-body vibration (WBV), hand-arm vibration (HAV) as well as to noise at workstations do not account for the simultaneous occurrence of these vibroacoustic factors and therefore underestimate occupational risk assessments, because in such cases, the energy dose absorbed by the worker is greater than when exposed to noise alone or to a single type of vibration. This article proposes a method for assessing worker exposure to the simultaneous effects of these three factors and presents the results of an occupational risk assessment conducted using this method for five real-world workplaces.

Purpose: Students with special educational needs (SEN) may exhibit difficult behaviour in school, disturbing the learning environment, which gives rise to management problems for those involved in their education. In light of the current approach, special-needs education in Poland should be a high-quality educational service that provides for the specific needs of students with disabilities in terms of teaching organisation and methods. Work with SEN students places teachers at a great professional risk. This may lead to stress, job burnout or the experience of intensive emotional stimulation from SEN students. This paper is intended to explore risks to teachers working with special educational needs students in a selected educational institution. Design/methodology/approach: A survey to determine risks to teachers working with special educational needs students was carried out at the turn of September and October 2023. It was completed electronically by 42 SEN teachers. The survey addressed the issues of qualifications to work with SEN students, fears of finding fulfilment in a SEN school environment, and risks to teachers in SEN children’s behaviour, among other things. The SEN teachers were also asked about their institution’s readiness for working with SEN students. Findings: The responses given in the survey showed the SEN teachers were generally satisfied with their work. More than 90% have no fears of finding fulfilment in their SEN children environment. More than 95% believe the institution they work at is well adapted to working with SEN students. In spite of the satisfaction and absence of fears, 59.5% SEN teachers have experienced verbal and non-verbal aggression from SEN students. Research limitations/implications: Such research helps to make teachers’ work with SEN children more efficient and safer. Practical implications: The study implies such research is reasonable as it obtains reliable information from teachers about what problems and events may be encountered when working with SEN students. Originality/value: The conclusions show how important the preparation for work with SEN students is. Pedagogic qualifications are insufficient, continuous improvement through training or workshops as well as contacts with other teachers from similar institutions, especially those with long experience, are important as well.

Nowadays, occupational risk management presents a significant challenge for enterprises and occupational health and safety (OHS) services. Economic changes drive efforts to verify working conditions and optimize production processes involving human participation. Employers are obligated to provide safe and hygienic working conditions using all available technical and organizational solutions. However, many enterprises still marginalize the correlation between reliable occupational risk assessments and employee absenteeism. Employers often fear high economic costs with potentially low returns. Such actions often stem from the lack of precise analyses clearly determining the costs of inadequate employee safety and ignorance of the possible consequences of workplace accidents. A well-prepared occupational risk assessment can beneficially impact employee safety, company profits, and the reduction or elimination of material and financial losses. This article discusses appropriate remedial measures for accurately determining occupational risk levels and the elements of its control. The reliability of the assessment will determine the effectiveness of the adopted OHS policy and management overall.

Work safety is a key element in the design and maintenance of industrial workplaces and processes. This article examines occupational safety and the reliability of the human factor in the role of a plastic injection molding machine operator. Analyzing the work process and the dangerous, harmful, and burdensome factors present in the environment and workplace allowed for the identification of occupational hazards. Additionally, factors such as the frequency of threats, the likelihood of events, the possibility of avoiding and limiting damage, and the consequences of events were considered to conduct an occupational risk assessment according to the JSA (Job Safety Analysis) method. Following this, human reliability was assessed by determining the probability of operator errors using the TESEO and HEART methods. Finally, the possibility of using selected immersion techniques on the results of the research was discussed. The research methods and tools used in this study included a literature review and analysis, observation, interviews, and inference.

Occupational risk assessment is one of the most crucial legal obligation for employers and the basis of accident prevention. In the case of highly repetitive work operations and an almost constant work environment, performing a preliminary risk analysis and checking risk levels periodically may be sufficient. In the case of blasting operations in quarries: the mining and geological conditions, technology, blasting methods, explosives, and initiating agents are variables that affect occupational safety. Moreover they make occupational risk assessment difficult to apply on the operational level. Therefore, occupational risk management followed by a deep analysis of hazards and their associated risks may allow to design and manage blasting works with regard to occupational risk. The paper presents the method for the support of occupational risk management in quarry blasting operations based on a modified FMECA algorithm. The designed method provides a systematic approach to risk identification, and allows to indication of the main occupational hazards that should be prioritized for preventive action. The preventive action which could be implied in the design stage by changes in technology or work organization based on options available for a particular quarry.

This article presents the topic of identifying the hazards of the working environment by means of a checklist. Forms of inspections within the European Union countries are not clearly specified with what tools they are to be performed. There are many forms of conducting the state of occupational health and safety, which can be used to study the risks present at the workplace. One form used is the checklist. A properly constructed checklist should contain appropriately formulated questions that clearly demonstrate inconsistencies in the work processes of each position. Variability in the selection of questions is determined by the nature of the work carried out and the hazards at the workstations in a particular company or organization. In order for the checklists to be the most suitable for a particular workstation, they must be subject to frequent updating in order to strive to reduce the risk of work, which consequently also reduces the risk of an accident at work or a potential accident situation.

In this paper, the authors focused on the analysis and evaluation of factors affecting the level of occupational risk in "small" enterprises, with a particular emphasis on psychophysical factors in the manufacturing sector. The study was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire. The results were verified using the strucla interview method with elements of observation. The purpose of the paper was to draw attention to – often overlooked in the assessment of occupational risks by employers – psychophysical hazards with particular emphasis on psychosocial hazards. Respondents – employees of enterprises with a particular focus on the manufacturing sector – point to psycho-physical hazards as those that, right after hazardous (accident) hazards, significantly affect the level of occupational risk. However, the assessment of factors determining the level of occupational risk changes with the age of respondents. Older workers, more often than younger ones, perceive the factors that affect the level of occupational risk. Their experience and ability to reliably identify risks can be very useful in creating awareness of safe behavior among the youngest workers, who are most vulnerable to occupational accidents. The article also presents analyses and assessments of the symptoms of occupational stress, which is one of the factors shaping psycho-physical risk that is so often underestimated by many workers and employers.

Purpose: The choice of preventive measures and labour protection equipment should be justified taking into account the occupational risk. For objective reasons, existing approaches do not provide an opportunity to justify the choice of the necessary measures, which best reduce the occupational risk level. Consequently, an effective methodological approach to justify preventive measures is required, since the level of risk in mining enterprises is still high, especially in developing countries and countries with weak economies. The current research is devoted to solving this urgent scientific problem. Design/methodology/approach: Construction of mathematical models based on accumulated statistical data on the values of production factors using polynomial regression, which is justified by the simplicity of computational algorithms and the clarity of the results obtained. Findings: On the example of the Ukrainian mining industry, it was found that to reduce occupational risk; the most effective is to change the operating mode of the equipment and rational planning of working hours, but not measures to reduce the dust concentration. Research limitations/implications: The study is focused on the mining industry; a methodological approach and a mathematical model are proposed for specific working conditions at Ukrainian mining industry. Practical implications: The proposed approach makes it possible, based on statistical data, to quickly and reliably select the most effective measures to reduce the industrial risk level. Originality/value: A feature of the proposed approach to reducing industrial risk is a comprehensive accounting of data on factors affecting occupational risk, the construction of mathematical models and the use of modelling results when planning measures to improve working conditions.

The profession of a seller (especially in small grocery stores) does not enjoy a social respect. The reasons for this are, above all, low requirements, low salary and difficult working conditions. In addition, too little attention is paid in the literature to this profession from the point of view of safety and hazards at work. However, the problem of working conditions in the position of a salesman is an important issue concerning a very large number of people. The paper deals with this difficult topic by describing selected methods of ergonomic analysis and using them to assess occupational risk at the seller's workplace. In the paper, the results of the Ergonomic Checkpoint List, as well as the results of questionnaire surveys are presented. All the results are related to the possibility of proper identification and the probability of hazards occurrence in the position of a seller.

The work presents the assessment of occupational risk using the Risk Score method for the position of a policeman from the Patrol and Intervention Link. A policeman in this position often works in conditions that are not only hazardous to health, but also to life. It patrols streets, buildings, etc. and participates in many interventions. Therefore, it seems important to raise the topic of occupational risk in such a position. By assessing occupational risk using the Risk Score method, threats were identified with the highest risk and activities that may reduce this risk have been indicated.
