The article explores the development of a simulation model as a decision support tool to aid the planning and development of a new multimodal transport hub at Riga International Airport (RIX), considering its integration with the Rail Baltica project. The study addresses the growing significance of multimodality in enhancing connec tivity, passenger service quality, and infrastructure efficiency at major air transport hubs. The air transport system – comprising both demand-side (passengers, freight) and supply-side (airports, airlines, air traffic control) components - has long been af fected by capacity constraints, congestion, and environmental issues. These challenges have persisted and, in some cases, intensified in the post-pandemic recovery period. The aim of the study is to develop a conceptual simulation model that supports tac tical decision-making for traffic flow optimization and infrastructure development at RIX. The research emphasizes complementary role of rail transport in multimodal integration, particularly its potential to extend air connectivity and enable seamless “door-to-door” travel chain. Best practices in multimodality at Helsinki and Singapore airports are reviewed. The current state of infrastructure and intermodal connectivity at RIX is analyzed, especially with reference to its future connection to the planned Rail Baltica line. A holistic approach to service level analysis is applied, incorporating both terminal and regional access components. Given the complexity of such large-scale projects, modern model-based tools are essential for evaluating alternative scenarios and sup porting planning decisions. The proposed conceptual simulation model provides a methodological framework for evaluating multimodal passenger flows and supports strategic decisions on hub development and infrastructure optimization.

The aim of this article is to identify the best practices to reduce potential risks in passenger transport using the example of urban public transport in Berlin. Due to dynamically progressing urbanization processes and the related development of the German capital, the demand for transport services increases. A significant problem has become the coordinated management of public transport for passengers and ensuring safety in the means of transport and available infrastructure. Local government and public transport managers in Berlin have decided to introduce solutions to reduce potential threats to public transport participants, thereby contributing to improving the quality and safety of the transport services provided. The methods of source analysis, descriptive analysis, and deduction are used to conduct the analysis in this study. The results show that the constant search for new solutions to transport problems is a challenge for city managers in the era of rapidly progressing urbanization processes.

A particularly helpful search of a network such as the Internet or a citation network not only finds nodes that satisfy some criteria but also ranks those nodes for importance to create what amounts to a “reading list”. In the recent past, there has been a large interest across a number of research communities in the analysis of complex networks. The selected set of pages from the World Wide Web can be modeled as a directed graph, where nodes are designated as individual pages, and the links as a connection between them. As the number of webpages to be ranked is in the billions, the computation is time-consuming and can take several days or more. Algorithms like PageRank, HITS, SALSA and their modifications has a challenge to deal with the size of the processed data. The need for accelerated algorithms is clear. This article presents the characteristics of three best known ranking algorithms and the assumptions for new algorithm development with first test runs.

W ostatnich latach zaobserwować można duże zainteresowanie środowisk naukowych obszarem sieci złożonych. Zbiór stron z sieci World Wide Web można zamodelować jako graf skierowany, gdzie węzły są wyznaczone jako poszczególne strony, a linki jako połączenie pomiędzy nimi. Liczba stron internetowych, które biorą udział w rankingu, podana jest w miliardach, zatem obliczenia są czasochłonne, uzależnione od użytych algorytmów oraz oczekiwanego stopnia dokładności. Algorytmy takie jak PageRank, HITS, SALSA i ich modyfikacje mają do czynienia z problemem ilości przetwarzanych danych. Dlatego potrzebne są nowe narzędzia, wydajne obliczeniowo w szczególności w oparciu o analizy sieci dla wspólnego rankingu wszystkich węzłów. W prezentowanym artykule przedstawiam charakterystykę trzech najbardziej znanych algorytmów rankingu oraz propozycję założeń do opracowania nowego algorytmu wraz z pierwszymi testami na zestawie realnych danych.

W niniejszym artykule rozważono możliwość praktycznego zastosowania zwierciadła parabolicznego jako koncentratora promieniowania słonecznego. Wykonano wiele prób z wykorzystaniem różnych form konwersji energii: topienie metali, silnik cieplny, fotowoltaika i naturalne światło. Pokazano, że taki układ może być przydatny w zastosowaniach tego typu oraz w tzw. układach kolektorów hybrydowych.

The possibility of use of parabolic mirror as a solar radiation concentrator was considered. A series of tests illustrating various forms of energy conversion have been performed: melting of metals, a heat engine, photovoltaic and daylight transmission. It was concluded that proposed device can be used in the aforementioned applications and in so called solar hybrid systems.
