This article compares publications available in Lower Silesia - primarily in Wrocław - that discuss roof design and the prevalence of the solutions they propose, using 17th- and 18th-c. townhouse roofs as a case study. Preserved monuments, as well as previously researched structures and iconographic records depicting urban development, allow us to trace changes in roof forms. Understanding the dominant architectural theory sheds light on the choices made in the formal and structural arrangements of these roofs. Recommendations for lowering roof heights, initially to a 60° pitch from the mid-17th c., were supported by regulations, which led to their widespread adoption. Knowledge of appropriate structural solutions allowed for the construction of even lower roofs. At the same time, reducing the height of townhouse gables could be achieved using mansard roofs. The hipped roof form, preferred in contemporary theory for compact developments, was used only in exceptional cases, including the mansard version, which was recommended for the functional use of the attic. Tradition and construction considerations also led to the use of a modified hipped roof with shortened slopes; however, this version remained popular only briefly, until around the mid-19th c. An analysis of the then-available publications in Lower Silesia reveals a convergence between the theoretical approaches to roof design, the timing and accessibility of these works, and the dissemination of the promoted designs.

To reveal the shear deformation and energy storage mechanism of composite roof strata, and to quantify the interlayer shear energy storage characteristics of composite roof strata, this study establishes a shear energy mechanical model for layered composite roof structures under various conditions. The factors influencing the shear energy storage of rock strata are analyzed, and the energy release process and mechanism of layered composite roof strata are discussed, leading to the following conclusions: the shear strain energy linearly increases with the increase in bond layer thickness and quadratically increases with increasing external forces. During the bending deformation stage, when thick and hard layers exist in the composite beams, shear failure dominated by interlayer shear slip occurs, and low-strength rock beams exhibit tensile crack initiation. In the overall instability stage, the composite beams mainly experience tensile fracture. When thick and hard layers exist in composite beams, the fracture strength and released energy are higher. The presence of thick and hard layers in the roof is a key factor leading to severe structural damage and increased energy release.

W artykule przedstawiono rozwiązanie nowej trybuny z zadaszeniem Stadionu Miejskiego w Rzeszowie, wraz z uwarunkowaniami, genezą i koncepcją leżącą u podstaw projektu.

The Municipal Stadium in Rzeszów was built in the 1950s as a facility of the "Stal" Sports Club of WSK Factory. It had an open-air grandstand, shaped on part of the perimeter, adapting the existing, natural escarpment of the Wisłok River valley. However, over time, the facility became outdated, so work was commissioned on its reconstruction. The stadium was to maintain the functions of a facility intended for speedway competitions and to maintain a football pitch size 120 × 90 m with an audience capacity of 18,000 spectators. One of the assumptions that affect the design solution was to maintain the possibility of continuous use of the stadium, with a short winter break during which the steel roof structure was to be assembled. The architectural concept was prepared by ATJ Architekci, who invited Prof. Stanisław Kuś to collaborate. It was proposed to use a structure for the stadium roof, resembling the “general's collar” – similar to the nearby “Podpromie” multipurpose hall. The article presents a solution for a new roofed grandstand at the Municipal Stadium in Rzeszów, along with the conditions, genesis and concept underlying the project.

The introduction of new material solutions into the BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaics) requires the need to check their suitability in this area. This especially applies to resistance to weather conditions and resistance to UV radiation. The authors conducted a series of tests on samples of photovoltaic modules made using a composite lamination technology based on glass fibres and hardened resins. The resistance of such a structure to atmospheric conditions and degradation by UV rays was investigated. Both of these areas have a significant impact on the efficiency of such a solution in terms of converting solar energy into electricity and the service life of the solution. It was found that delamination of the composite PV modules can be avoided in the case of some studied resins (e.g. LG 385).
