W artykule przedstawiono opis uszkodzeń płyty fundamentowej garażu podziemnego, która została błędnie zaprojektowana, a następnie wykonana w sposób niezgodny z zasadami wiedzy technicznej. W pracy przedstawiono zakres proponowanych prac naprawczych zarówno samej płyty fundamentowej, jak i uszkodzonej posadzki, tj. górnej powierzchni wykończonej zasypką utwardzoną powierzchniowo.

The article presents a description of damage to the foundation slab of an underground garage, which was incorrectly designed and then constructed in a manner inconsistent with the principles of technical knowledge. Immediately after the completion of the foundation slab, intense scratches appeared on its surface, which were unstable and continued to develop over time. The floor made on the foundation slab as part of the finishing works was also scratched. The work presents proposals for the scope of repair work both on the foundation slab itself and on the damaged floor, i.e. the upper surface finished with surface-hardened backfill.

This paper presents an experimental investigation of the structural behaviour of reinforced concrete (R.C.) beams, patch-repaired with a cementitious grout and strengthened with carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) strips subjected to impact loading. The results of this study show that strengthening patch-repaired R.C. beams subjected to impact loading using CFRP plates, restores the load-carrying capacity of the beams. The strengthened beams exhibited ductile behaviour with no debonding between the patch repair and the substrate concrete. The primary failure mode of the strengthened beams was intermediate crack (I.C.) debonding. In addition, the beams with longer patch length exhibited higher flexural strength.

Artykuł przedstawia eksperymentalne badanie zachowania belek żelbetowych, naprawionych miejscowo za pomocą zaprawy cementowej i wzmocnionych taśmami z polimerów zbrojonych włóknem węglowym (CFRP), poddanych obciążeniom udarowym.

Recently, dissimilar metals have found applications in the process of resistance spot welding (RSW), particularly within the electric vehicle industry. Notably, copper and aluminum have gained significant importance in these sectors due to their advantageous characteristics for the industry requirements. The mechanical behavior of these materials is essential to maintaining structural integrity. The study aims to estimate the mechanical behavior of dissimilar RSW joints and optimize welding parameters for Cu-Al joints. Hence, understanding the joining processes in the electric vehicle industry to design reliable components. Combining different types of materials, such as T2-grade commercially pure copper sheets and aluminum AA1050 with the same thickness of 1 mm has been welded. The determination of optimal welding conditions takes into account material thicknesses and types. Through tensile-shear testing, welding parameters that yield maximal joint strength were identified. Using Minitab 19 software, the Taguchi method helped achieve optimized welding parameters. The hardness, fracture characteristics, and weld strength have been investigated. Hardness measurements were conducted across the nugget thickness and surface, offering insights into potential failure modes. The welding process involves the transition to a liquid state for the aluminum components, resulting in the formation of intermetallic compounds. Consequently, crack initiation was observed within the aluminum segments, leading to a plug-out fracture mechanism. In contrast, copper exhibits superior strength and hardness compared to aluminum, where increased hardness correlates with heightened strength. The discrepancy in hardness, especially the lower values observed on the aluminum side, caused fractures to appear within the heat affected zone (HAZ). Subsequently, this fracture propagated until pull-out failure was realized. The study revealed that dissimilar joining of Cu and Al resulted in an ultimate tensile stress of 26 MPa, while similar joining of copper showcased a strength of 98 MPa. Additionally, the symmetric join in aluminum exhibited a strength of 93 MPa. The maximum tensile shear force is equal to 512 N at a maximum welding current of 14000 A. The pull-out failure mode occurs in the Cu-Al RSW joint. The maximum hardness was noted in the fusion zone (FZ). Relevant literature sources have supported and confirmed these outcomes.

This report presents the results and analysis of long-term properties of fiber-reinforced cement composite based on waste aggregate. The long-term tests were carried out on the stand proposed by the authors for simultaneously testing three beams with dimensions of 100x200x2900 mm. A total of 8 mixtures of cement composites with aggregate from ceramic waste and waste sand were tested. Three beams were made for each mixture. One without dispersed reinforcement and two with 0.5% and 1.0% fiber reinforcement ratios. As dispersed reinforcement, steel cord and hooked steel fibers were used. The beams were subjected to a four-point bending test. The research was carried out for 1000 days. An optical system was used as an innovative solution in long-term research. Based on the measurements, the creep coefficient in the mid-span of the beams was determined, and the crackings of the beams were analysed. The results obtained using manual measuring devices and the optical system were compared. A good convergence of measurement methods was observed. During the analysis of the results, the coefficients modifying the method for calculating the crack width included in Eurocode 2 were determined.

This paper presents a method for calculating vertical and horizontal stresses in gas-bearing coal seams based on a set of equations developed by the authors. The method describes the experimental curve of rock pressure as a convex quadratic function, with the initial value of the function equal to the normal stress at the top of the bottom hole crack. The method also considers the variation of gas pressure as the crack moves towards the interior of the formation. In addition, the method employs the relationship between active tangential stresses at points on the edges of the bottomhole crack, derived from Coulomb’s strength criteria for brittle materials. The accuracy of the method was confirmed by experimental data on the maximum shear strength of marble and brown coal at various levels of confining pressure and pore pressure. The paper also presents analytical expressions for the strength limit of the bottomhole zone of gas-bearing coal seams as a function of gas pressure gradient.

Pathological behavior of a floor in a large industrial hall is presented in this paper. The failure was determined by numerous and wide cracks which formed shortly after the concreting. Due to the fear regarding the further operation the owner commissioned the clarification of the genesis and relevance of the case to the author. Appropriate investigations and analyses have proved that several mistakes in the floor design were responsible for the poor performance of the floor.

Slender systems are mostly studied when Euler’s load or follower load is considered. The use of those types of external loads results in well-known divergence or flutter shape of the characteristic curve. In this study, one takes into account the specific load which allows one to obtain an interesting divergence – pseudo flutter shape of characteristic curves on the external load–vibration frequency plane. The curves can change inclination angle as well as one can observe the change in vibration modes along them. The shape of those curves depends not only on the parameters of the slender system but also on loading heads that induce the specific load. In this study, one considers the slender multimember system in which cracks are present and weaken the host structure. The results of theoretical as well as numerical simulations are focused on the influence of the parameters of the loading heads on vibrations, stability, and loading capacity of the investigated system as well as on the possibility of partial reduction of unwanted crack effect.

Thermography is a non-destructive testing method that utilizes infrared camera to infer the technical condition of a material. Laser thermography is a type of active thermography in which laser radiation serves as the excitation source. This method allows for highly precise control of the amount of energy delivered to the sample. An important advantage of laser testing is the capability to detect both delamination and cracks, which are the main types of damage in composite structures. This paper presents a test setup developed at AGH University of Krakow and the results of scanning a sample made of carbon fiber reinforced polymer.

Purpose: The FDM (Fused Deposition Modelling) additive manufacturing process is characterised by a large number of process variables that determine the mechanical properties and quality of the manufactured parts. When printing layer by layer, the filaments constituting the layer are welded on the one hand between them in the same layer and on the other hand between the superimposed layers, this welding develops on the contact surfaces (raster width) along the deposited filaments. The quality of this welding determines the resistance to crack propagation between filaments and between layers. This article aims to study the effect of the width of the raster on the resistance to crack propagation in a structure obtained by FDM. Design/methodology/approach: We have developed an experimental approach from CT specimens to determine the tensile strength of polylactic acid (PLA) polymers, considering the J-Integral method. And given the complexity of the problem, three cases of raster width (l=0.42 mm, l=0.56 mm and l=0.68 mm) have been treated. Findings: According to the results obtained (J, ∆a), the resistance to crack propagation in the parts printed by FDM seems to be better when the width of the filament is small. Indeed, the energy necessary to break the specimen is relatively greater than in the case of a larger width. This finding was confirmed by comparing the values of J for a given advancement of the crack for the three cases studied. Research limitations/implications: In order to present an exhaustive study, we focused on the effect of raster widths (including 0.42 mm, 0.56 mm to 0.68 mm) on the crack propagation of printed PLA. This study is in progress for other printing parameters. To highlight the cracking mechanisms, microscopic observations will be developed in greater depth at the SEM. Practical implications: Our analysis can be used as decision support in the design of FDM parts. In effect, we can choose the raster width that would provide the resistance to crack propagation desired for a functional part. Originality/value: In this article, we analysed the damage mechanism of CT specimens printed by FDM. This subject represents a new direction for many lines of research. For our study, we used the J-Integral theoretical approach to study the fracture behaviour of these parts by determining the resistance curves (J-∆a).

The application of used glazed waste in concrete production can improve the performance of the structure of the building. Flexural and shear behavior and action of reinforced Hollow Glass Concrete Beams (HGCB) and Solid Glass Concrete Beams (SGCB) made with glass waste under a two-point load are studied in this paper. In this work, 6 reinforced concrete solid and hollow beams were tested under a four-point bending test to evaluate and calculate the flexural behavior of SGCB and HGCB. For that purpose, Beams were prepared with 1000 mm length, 230 mm height, and 120 mm. All beams were divided into groups and named according to the space stirrups steel bar. The experimental work investigates five main variables which are: first: the comparison between SGCB and HGCB with the concrete beams made with glass waste (Glass Concrete Beam GCB), second: comparison between Solid Concrete Beams for Normal Concrete Beams (NCB), and GCB, three: comparison between Hollow Concrete Beams for NCB and GCB, four: the comparison between HGCB and HCB, last: the comparison between SGCB and SCB. The test results indicated that GCB was offered higher strength than NCB, but the load-slip behavior of all specimens is similar for both types of concretes, and the bond strength is not influenced by steel specimens. Furthermore, the results of this study indicated that the contribution of GCB to the load is indicated to be considerable. The results indicate that the hollow opening affected the ultimate load capacity and deflection of HGCB.

Pipeline transport is used worldwide in many sectors of the economy. Its main advantages are continuity of transport, large transportation volumes, small energy consumption, safety, reliability and high environmental benefits. However, the safety problems of pipes attract much interest in science and industry. This paper deals with a cracked pipe with a static scheme of a simply supported beam. It rests along its entire length on a Pasternak elastic foundation. The flowing fluid is considered non-compressible and heavy. The Galerkin method is employed to approach the problem numerically. Conclusions are drawn based on the influence of the crack and the parameters of the Pasternak elastic foundation on the critical flow velocity of the fluid.

The article describes the tests of prestressed concrete sleepers made according to the method specified in the requirements of the European standards (EN 13230-2:2009 Railway applications – Track – Concrete sleepers and bearers – Part 2: Prestressed monoblock sleepers) and WTWiO regulations, and an additional measurement method was used – acoustic emission (AE). The purpose of the tests using the acoustic emission method was to verify the results obtained using other test methods described in the European standard. The use of this method in sleeper tests enables obtaining precise data from the sleeper load test and determination of the characteristic parameters based on the recorded AE signals. Due to the variety of existing sleepers and the development of products in this area: wooden sleepers, composite sleepers, steel sleepers (type Y), the use of the acoustic emission method in research will be a good support and will enable proper assessment of these elements of the railway road.

Based on the author’s expertise, this study presents five different cases of failure of reinforced concrete structures with scratches on the ground. In order to determine the circumstances of the cracks, each expertise commenced with an inspection of the facilities. After appropriate analyses of the collected information, calculations and discussions with the interested parties, expert opinions were prepared. The article contains large abbreviations of these expert opinions, which mainly present an analysis of scratches occurring in these objects. The author defined the phenomenon of scratching as the „language of construction”, the knowledge of which is necessary for the proper assessment of its technical condition.
