Accurate indoor camera localization is crucial for applications in augmented reality, robotics, and autonomous navigation. While single-image deep learning models for 6-DOF pose regression have shown competitive results on established benchmarks, their development still requires extensive data annotation and hyperparameter tuning. In this work, we investigate the combination of advanced network architectures, transfer learning, and synthetic data to improve single-image indoor pose regression. Our approach employs a ResNet50 backbone pre-trained on the Places365 dataset and further trained and evaluated on established benchmarks. To enhance the training data, synthetic images are generated from 3D BIM models using Unreal Engine, with alignment procedures ensuring accurate correspondence between synthetic and real environments. Real RGB images are preprocessed to resemble synthetic data, enabling effective cross-domain evaluation. Experiments demonstrate that both architectural design and pretraining significantly influence model performance. On the UniMelb dataset (real-to-real scenario), the model achieves 0.21 m and 0.80° errors, surpassing baseline accuracy. We also present cross-validation and synthetic-to-synthetic experiments, providing insights into factors affecting performance and interactions between architecture, pretraining, and dataset characteristics.
Artykuł przedstawia ramy koncepcyjne zastosowania mechanizmów inferencji i dezambiguacji semantycznej w kontekście modelowania budynków wraz z ich otoczeniem przestrzennym w oparciu o otwarty i niezależny standard Industry Foundation Classes (IFC). Praca omawia mechanizmy inferencji i dezambiguacji, umożliwiające automatyczne wzbogacanie modeli BIM w interoperacyjnym formacie IFC o informacje dotyczące relacji budynku z terenem, sieciami uzbrojenia, zielenią czy ograniczeniami planistycznymi.

The article presents a conceptual framework for the application of inference and semantic disambiguation mechanisms in the context of modeling buildings and their spatial surroundings based on the open and independent Industry Foundation Classes (IFC). The IFC scheme offers rich possibilities for representing not only the building itself, but also its surroundings, i.e., the terrain, technical infrastructure, small architecture, and spatial relationships with the surroundings. In practice, these possibilities are underutilized because BIM models often end at the building boundary, and links to surrounding objects are not defined. The paper discusses inference and disambiguation mechanisms that enable the automatic enrichment of BIM models in the interoperable IFC format with information about the relationship between the building and the terrain, utility networks, greenery, and planning restrictions. These considerations are set in the context of the latest IFC4.3 standard classes, with particular emphasis on solutions for technical infrastructure and elements of the surroundings.

W artykule przedstawiono narzędzie Health Checker służące do automatycznej kontroli jakości danych w modelach BIM.

The article presents the Health Checker tool for automatic data quality control in BIM models. Rapid technological development generates the need to integrate BIM systems with GIS, and ensuring high quality source data becomes a key challenge. The developed tool, implemented as a plug-in for leading BIM software (Autodesk Revit) in the pyRevit environment, enables automatic detection of common errors and incompleteness in data that may negatively affect export processes to interoperable formats (GML, IFC) and integration with GIS systems. The analysis introduces a Health Score metric (0-100), allowing for an objective assessment of the quality of the BIM model. The current version of the tool performs checks covering the correctness of element naming and the occurrence of system warnings, which are key data quality indicators affecting export and integration processes. Validation of the tool on 20 real BIM models showed an average quality score of 82/100, with the most common problem being elements without assigned names (an average of 875 cases per project) and an average number of active warnings of 16 per model. The research confirmed that systematic BIM data quality control using the developed tool can significantly improve the accuracy and completeness of data transferred to GIS and 3D/4D cadastre systems. The tool is a practical solution supporting the process of spatial data digitisation and BIM-GIS integration.

The paper explains the concepts and principles of the object-oriented programming approach on which the information architecture of BIM systems is based. The paper presents the basic paradigms of object-oriented parametric programming through specific case studies. Through high-level relationships, entities can interact and provide the user with the convenience of modeling and managing building object information. Without a deep awareness of how BIM works, there is no way it can be maturely applied. It is possible that IT professionals will be forced to look for new programming paradigms that focus more on information diffusion, improving interoperability and creating new technological solutions.

Projektowanie swobodnych form strukturalnych wymaga jednoczesnej kontroli geometrii, pracy konstrukcji, doboru materiału i sposobu realizacji. Zakres literatury dobrano według jawnych kryteriów tematycznych, czasowych i jakościowych, obejmując głównie aktualne publikacje dotyczące projektowania parametrycznego, generatywnego, optymalizacji konstrukcyjnej, struktur free-form oraz integracji BIM.

The design of freeform structures requires simultaneous control of geometry, structural performance, material selection, and implementation methods. In such systems, parameterisation is not only a method of shape modelling, but also a tool for organising the relationships between form, load-bearing logic, object information and feasibility. The aim of this article is to present the logic of parameterisation in structural engineering and the architecture of freeform structures as a method integrating geometric modelling, structural analysis, optimisation, and the BIM environment. The article is a narrative problem-oriented literature review. The sources were selected according to explicit thematic, temporal and quality criteria, with emphasis on recent publications on parametric and generative design, structural optimisation, freeform systems and BIM integration. It is shown that the value of parameterisation lies not in generating formal complexity, but in integrating architectural, structural and implementation decisions within a single design model.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) has become the digital standard in the construction sector. Many applied studies report positive effects of its implementation, but often fail to distinguish between correlation and causation. This distinction is of practical importance, as only a causal relationship justifies investment decisions based on intervention. The aim of this study was to assess the extent to which existing scientific evidence on the effects of BIM use is causal in nature. A structured literature review and synthesis were conducted on a set of twelve verified observations of the effect, drawn from seven scientific studies. Eleven of the twelve observations indicated a beneficial effect, whilst one indicated an adverse effect associated with increased effort during the design phase, a finding also reflected in the practice of design studios. The results show that cross-sectional and survey studies, as well as case studies, predominate; these establish certain associations but do not fully eliminate so-called confounding variables. The strongest causal evidence comes from studies comparing projects carried out with and without BIM, as well as from pre- and post-intervention analyses. A shift in workload towards the early design phase was also observed. The conclusions point to the need for more rigorous planning of future research and a more cautious interpretation of its results.
Obecnie współczesne technologie w budownictwie i ewolucja związana z rozwojem narzędzi wspomagania komputerowego, w tym projektowania parametrycznego i technologii BIM spowodowały ewolucję placów budowy w kierunku inteligentnych miejsc pracy. W pracy zastosowano metodę przeglądu literatury i analizę studiów przypadków wdrożeń technologii cyfrowych w budownictwie w latach 2021-2025. Wyniki wskazują, że integracja kodów QR, BIM i projektowania parametrycznego zwiększa efektywność zarządzania informacją, a także poprawia poziom bezpieczeństwa pracy na budowie.

The construction industry is a high-risk sector. Construction is most often caused by unsafe behavior and stems from insufficient communication or limited access to current information. The research problem is the low integration of information systems on construction sites and the limited interoperability between BIM technologies and digital identification systems. Currently, modern construction technologies and the evolution of computer-aided tools, including parametric design and BIM technology, have led to construction sites evolving toward smart workplaces. The use of QR codes to facilitate information flow and their integration with attendance systems, equipment monitoring, and digital project management platforms promotes automation and standardization. The aim of the article is to assess the possibilities of integrating QR codes with parametric design and BIM technologies in the context of improving safety, efficiency and digitization of construction processes. The paper uses a literature review and case study analysis of digital technology implementations in construction in 2021-2025. The results indicate that the integration of QR codes, BIM and parametric design increases the efficiency of information management and improves the level of work safety on construction sites.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki analizy netograficznej dotyczącej roli mediów społecznościowych w rozwoju technologii BIM. W części bibliometrycznej wykorzystano bazę Dimensions oraz oprogramowanie VOSviewer do zbadania współwystępowania nazw siedmiu największych portali społecznościowych (Facebook, Twitter/X, TikTok, WeChat, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, VKontakte) z tematyką BIM w publikacjach z dziedzin inżynieryjnych.

The article presents the results of a netnographic analysis of the role of social media in the development of BIM technology. The bibliometric part used the Dimensions database and VOSviewer software to examine the co-occurrence of seven major social platforms (Facebook, Twitter/X, TikTok, WeChat, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, VKontakte) with BIM topics in engineering publications. The qualitative part involved a manual review of three Polish-language Facebook groups and produced a list of key phrases found in posts and comments. The analysis revealed a clear growth in the number of publications and citations linking both topics, with the trend becoming visible only after 2017. Facebook proved to be the most strongly correlated medium, followed closely by Twitter/X, while TikTok showed the fastest growth rate. „Automation in Construction” is the most frequently cited journal in this area. China produced the largest number of papers, yet the highest citation rates were recorded for Anglo-Saxon countries and developed Western European countries. The manual review made it possible to identify real user problems and shortcomings of BIM software. The limitations of netnographic research are also discussed, resulting from the cost of data access, hardware requirements and the programming skills needed for web scraping.
This article presents the role of Common Data Environment (CDE) platforms in information management within construction projects and discusses their significance in supporting Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes. The study is based on a review of scientific literature, industry publications, and international standards, with particular emphasis on the ISO 19650 series. The paper examines the principles of information management in a CDE environment, including document control, information exchange, version management, and collaboration among project stakeholders. The analysis indicates that the implementation of CDE platforms improves the quality and accessibility of project information, enhances transparency of project activities, and reduces the risk of errors resulting from outdated or inconsistent data. Furthermore, CDE facilitates coordination among project participants and supports the standardization of information workflows throughout the lifecycle of a construction asset. The findings confirm that CDE has become an essential component of digital construction management and will continue to play a significant role in the further development of BIM-based project delivery.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as a key driver of transformation in the construction industry: a sector of major economic importance that has historically shown limited productivity growth. This article analyzes the development, applications, and barriers to the implementation of artificial intelligence in construction from technological, economic, and organizational perspectives. The evolution of AI is outlined, from early expert systems through machine learning techniques to contemporary solutions based on deep learning, generative models, and integration with BIM, the Internet of Things, and digital twin technologies. The paper discusses the use of AI in design support, construction planning and scheduling, automation of on-site processes, occupational safety management, and lifecycle management of buildings and infrastructure. Particular attention is given to the benefits of AI adoption, including cost and schedule optimization, risk reduction, quality improvement, enhanced safety, and reduced environmental impact. At the same time, significant implementation barriers are identified, such as insufficient data quality, high deployment costs, shortages of specialized skills, and legal and ethical challenges related to accountability for AI-driven decisions. The conclusions indicate that the effective use of artificial intelligence in construction requires not only technological progress, but also organizational change, workforce development, and appropriate regulatory frameworks.
This study analyzes the evolution of working standards in Building Information Modeling (BIM) and the redefinition of the role of the BIM Manager in the era of digital transformation. The starting point is the identification of a cognitive gap, i.e., the discrepancy between the exponential growth of data and the limitations of human perception. The conclusions are based on a narrative review of over 100 publications, with artificial intelligence models used in the content synthesis process. The analysis proves that implementing AI requires prior digital hygiene in accordance with the ISO 19650 standard and the conversion of data into a machine-readable format. Attention was also drawn to the phenomenon of the productivity paradox, showing that the automation of erroneous or inefficient processes only leads to the faster generation of defects. The paper outlines a vision of the future in which OpenBIM standards become the language of algorithm communication and AR technology ensures continuity of quality control. At the same time, the analysis emphasizes that the success of the transformation does not depend solely on technology, but on the soft and leadership skills necessary to overcome process resistance. The whole is crowned with a forecast of the evolution of the BIM Manager into a Knowledge Architect and transformation leader who oversees autonomous processes in a human-in-the-loop model.
Manualna segmentacja, przeprowadzana we współpracy z konserwatorami i historykami architektury, pozostaje nieodzownym elementem procesu HBIM. W artykule omówiono metodologie i wyzwania związane z segmentacją semantyczną w HBIM, podkreślając jej podwójną rolę: w tworzeniu cyfrowych bliźniaków i wspieraniu współpracy interdyscyplinarnej. Łącząc precyzję geometryczną z głębią semantyczną, HBIM wspiera wieloaspektowość tworzonych modeli i zapewnia zachowanie integralności kulturowej.

Semantic segmentation is crucial in Heritage Building Information Modelling (HBIM), enabling not only precise geometric documentation, but also the preservation of cultural and historical values. Technologies such as terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) or photogrammetry provide the basis for so-called “digital twinning” of heritage, but 3D models alone—lacking semantic enrichment—do not reflect the full context of heritage buildings. Manual segmentation, carried out in collaboration with conservators and architectural historians, remains an indispensable part of the HBIM process. It captures the nuances of materials, construction techniques or artistic details that automated algorithms often miss. The result is digital twins that faithfully reflect not only the spatial layout but also the cultural and historical integrity of the buildings, becoming an essential tool for effective conservation and multi-faceted heritage management. This paper discusses the methodologies and challenges of semantic segmentation in HBIM, highlighting its dual role in creating meaningful digital twins and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. By combining geometric precision with semantic depth, HBIM supports interdisciplinary collaboration and ensures the preservation of cultural integrity.
Building Information Modeling (BIM) has been the hottest topic in the construction sector over the last decade. The evolution from CAD to BIM systems has been going on for over 40 years. The current periodization indicates that we are now in the third era of BIM development, the era of open standards, which was initiated by the idea of openBIM in 2012. Earlier evolutionary periods included the model federation (second era) and CAD3D (first era). Since 2022, there has been extremely dynamic development of artificial intelligence (AI), especially generative AI. AI tools automate some of the tasks that were previously performed by humans. Thus, the research question is: are we entering the next, fourth era of BIM development? The era of artificial intelligence? This chapter attempts to answer this reflective question. W trakcie dogłębnego przeglądu literatury omówiono kierunki obecnych i przyszłych badań nad rozwojem BIM.
The article analyzes the application of BIM (Building Information Modeling) systems in intelligent design, focusing on process and cost optimization in construction. The authors discuss the benefits of implementing BIM throughout the entire life cycle of a building, from the pre-design phase to operation. BIM enables rapid concept analysis, supports interdisciplinary collaboration, streamlines cost estimation, and improves construction management. During the operational phase, BIM supports efficient facility management through real-time data collection and updates. The authors emphasize that the future of construction lies in integrating BIM with technologies such as IoT, artificial intelligence, and augmented reality. Despite the low level of BIM adoption in Polish companies, the trend of digitalization in construction is inevitable, and firms effectively implementing these technologies will gain a competitive advantage.
