The article analyses the application of system archetypes in solving complex management problems within organizations. Traditional problem-solving methods often prove insufficient when faced with the complexity of interconnections and dynamic behavioural patterns in organizational systems. In response to these challenges, systemic approaches, including the use of system archetypes, are gaining importance. The aim of this paper is to examine how archetypes support the identification of problem sources and the design of effective strategies for their resolution. The research question posed is: “How does the literature describe the use of system archetypes in solving organizational and team-related problems?” The analysis is based on a systematic literature review (SLR). The results indicate that archetypes such as „Shifting the Burden” and „Limits to Growth” are most commonly applied, as they enable organizations to recognize recurring problem patterns, avoid short-term fixes, and design sus- tainable interventions. Archetypes are valuable both for organizations and employees – they support decision-making processes, improve team efficiency, and facilitate daily work by reducing the risk of recurring problems in the future. Integrating archetypes with problem-solving methodologies can deliver significant operational and strategic benefits.

This paper presents an approach to modelling and analyzing simulations of construction works using System Dynamics. The authors, using systems thinking, developed a general model of a construction work’s performance to assess its execution time and costs. The proposed model considers dynamic and non-linear relations between the elements (people, materials, machines, etc.) of the construction work as a system and its reactions to essential risk factors. The potential of the proposed approach was presented on the example of the construction of a stone tile wearing course for a shared space at the Wawel Royal Castle in Cracow. The authors wish to note the universality of the model, whose general form can be used to assess the execution times and costs of typical construction works that are vulnerable to essential risk factors.

Przedstawiono podejście do modelowania i analizy symulacyjnej robót budowlanych oparte na dynamice systemów. Korzystając z myślenia systemowego, opracowano ogólny model roboty budowlanej na potrzeby szacowania cyklu jej realizacji. Zaproponowany model uwzględnia dynamiczne i nieliniowe relacje pomiędzy poszczególnymi elementami (ludzie, materiały, maszyny itd.) roboty budowlanej oraz jej interakcje z podstawowymi czynnikami ryzyka. Możliwości zaproponowanego podejścia zaprezentowano na przykładzie roboty budowlanej: wykonanie warstwy ścieralnej z nawierzchni z płyt kamiennych ciągu pieszo-jezdnego zlokalizowanego na terenie Zamku Królewskiego na Wawelu w Krakowie. Zwraca się uwagę na uniwersalny charakter opracowanego modelu, którego ogólna postać może stanowić bazę do szacowania cyklu realizacji typowych robót budowlanych podatnych na wpływ podstawowych czynników ryzyka.

The notion of the learning organisation, especially as conceptualized by Peter Senge, has attracted growing interest in the context of public sector reform. Yet the advancement of organisational learning capabilities within public institutions remains constrained by entrenched structural, cultural, and procedural barriers. The aim of the study was to identify the extent to which the elements of Peter M. Senge’s learning organisation model - such as systems thinking, mental models, shared vision, team learning, and personal mastery - are present in change management processes within public sector organisations. This study is grounded in empirical data obtained through a quantitative survey administered to 576 employees representing various public sector organisations in Poland. The questionnaire was designed around the core dimensions of the learning organisation framework, with an emphasis on assessing the role of experiential learning in facilitating both strategic and operational change. The collected data were subjected to statistical analysis to uncover prevailing trends and examine possible relationships between learning practices and organisational change dynamics.

The study aims to explore how external support and the ability to understand systemic linkages (organisation’s capability for systems thinking) influence the relationship between organisational resilience and organisational performance. The empirical research was conducted to verify whether external support and systems thinking have the capacity to moderate the relationship between organisational resilience and organisational performance. A set of hypotheses was developed based on the theoretical research and subsequently tested on a sample of 268 organisations operating in Poland. Two alternative testing methods were used: stepwise regression analysis with a moderator and Hayes’ PROCESS macro technique (also based on regression analysis). The Johnson-Neyman technique was used to identify regions within the range of the moderator variable, where the effect of the focal predictor on the outcome was statistically significant or non-significant. The obtained results clearly show that the external support and systems thinking, when considered separately, act as moderators of the analysed relationship. The model with two moderators is also statistically significant, and the simultaneous inclusion of both moderators significantly increases the percentage of explained variance. However, an interesting phenomenon can be observed here. The analysis of conditional effects reveals that at a low level of systems thinking, and across all levels of external support, the moderation effect is not statistically significant. It becomes statistically significant only at the average and high levels of systems thinking, and at both of these levels, the effect increases with the rise in external support. This study provides important insights into the factors influencing the relationship between organisational resilience and organisational performance. It emphasises the importance of systemic linkages and, above all, the understanding of the context in which organisations operate.

Management and organizational studies have traditionally relied on the concepts of growth and development. Due to the juxtaposition of these terms and their diverse implications, there may be some confusion and misinterpretation in academic and practical contexts. The aim of the research was to investigate the definitions and functions of growth and development in management and the organizational sphere in order to offer a better understanding of the varied roles of these concepts and their contributions to organizational evolution. To accomplish this, a comprehensive study of the literature was conducted, in which a review of seminal publications and major contributions by notable researchers was carried out and various scholars’ perspectives on growth and development were assessed. Furthermore, an effort was made to identify major themes, similarities, and differences in the available literature. This study showed that the main focus of growth is quantitative expansion. Development, on the other hand, is concerned with qualitative advancements. It is also argued that growth and development should be sought continuously in order for an organization to remain successful in the long run, since they may be inextricably linked. Based on these findings, a conceptual framework is presented that converges growth and development in the organization as a system for long-term sustainability. By adopting this frame- work as the foundation for future research, scholars and practitioners will be able to better understand the different yet interconnected nature of growth and development in organizations. Furthermore, this study may provide assistance to managers striving to navigate growth and development, allowing for a more managerial approach to organizational success in a rapidly changing global environment.

Przyjmując niniejszą strukturę jako podstawę do dalszych badań, uczeni i praktycy będą w stanie lepiej zrozumieć różną, choć wzajemnie połączoną naturę wzrostu i rozwoju w organizacjach.

This article first presents Environmental Life-Cycle Analysis (E-LCA) as a complete learning experience for university students of environmental science/engineering, enabling the acquisition of the four levels of knowledge, of the Structure of the Observed Learning Outcome (SOLO) taxonomy. The four steps of an E-LCA, interestingly, mirror the hierarchy of knowledge-levels defined by the SOLO taxonomy. In the light of the fact that it is generally difficult to accomplish this ascent from declarative knowledge to functional knowledge, in a systematic manner, in many university courses, the complete learning experience guaranteed by E-LCA must stand out conspicuously.

This paper focuses on systems thinking: a structure forming factor that is overlooked in the literature. Systems thinking exercised by members of an organization, especially top management, is the art of perceiving reality and phenomena occurring in it as a whole, not as a simple sum of its components. It has been found that the practice of systems thinking in the development of organizational solutions not only leads to their consistency, but also to their adequacy in relation to the rest of the organization and in relation to its environment. On the basis of empirical studies it has been shown that systems thinking is hardly present in the process of organizing.
